Scholarly, thorough, interesting, heavily footnoted, great bibliography,
but most important of all, written with the devotion of a man committed
to the truth and accuracy of Holy Scripture.
This is THE book to get on the subject of the temple.
This book will satisfy both the general reader and the scholars.
Actually, you may want to just use it as a reference, as I do,
Because if you read it all the way through, you may go blind!
Major Flaws: Type is TOO SMALL...this book should have been published
in 9x6" format. The notes in the back are so small, I can't even read
them! The subject index in the back has subcatagories which makes no
sense because you can't really look anything up, unless it happens
to be one of the main words! I hope they republish this and fix all
that.
Oh yeah, the cover art is SUPER COOL! :-)

Charles Price does an excellent job of telling this story using the very few deatils that exist regarding the hanging. By tracking down the last known living eye-witness Mr. Price was able to recreate the scene of the hanging in his book using first-person testimony. Through his research and interviews Mr. Price has successfully documented this strange moment of history thereby taking a piece of Southern folklore and creating a fact-based document before before all witnesses to the execution had passed away.
The book is illustrated with ink drawings in several places and the famous photo of elephant Mary hanging from the gallows is included as well.

Discretionary traders will like the fact that Farley believes trading is more art than science. The Master Swing Trader still relies on pattern interpretation, after all. What Farley terms "Pattern Cycles," in fact, form the core of his methodology.
Farley, also, makes ample use of charts and examples that greatly aid in understanding. However, the example-charts at times appear to be too detailed or "cluttered," but this is a minor complaint.
This is a book that is very broad in content. There are chapters on "Preparing For the Market Day," and one on "Understanding Time." Candlesticks are added to the discussion throughout, as are those indicators commonly found in software charting packages.
The best parts of the book, however, are the chapters devoted to the "7-Bells," one chapter for each, which disuss seven specific pattern setups that seek to capitalize on predictable crowd behavior. The "Finger Finder" (one-bar candlestick reversals) is just one "bell" example that could improve your short-term trading immediately.
Every book claims it is going to help you understand chart patterns, but then limits the coverage to items like the classical head-and-shoulders or triangle patterns using standard breakout techniques. Alan takes you inside these patterns, and often shows you how to beat the crowd by understanding what is really happening. His approach has much lower risk and often a higher profit potential.
And that is only the start. Classical patterns are the ones that "everyone" knows, but unfortunately, what everyone knows seldom makes money. The Master Swing Trader takes the concepts that make up patterns, and shows you where invisible trades often exist. But since the general public doesn't see the early trade, they buy or sell after you have established your position. This improves your risk/reward ratio even further.
This book is not for the absolute beginning trader, since it assumes some knowledge of basic technical analysis. There are several points in the book where Alan assumes you have already heard of Vic Sperandeo's 2B Top or Dr. Alexander Elder's Triple Screen method. (Keep reading - they are eventually explained.) But if you are looking for a book that does more than just rehash existing materials, this is the one you've been looking for, this is the one.
I see many good reviews by people who appreciate this excellent book. I truly believe anyone who rates it poorly has other motives. This book covers everything, including detailed techniques, crowd psychology and how to avoid stupid mistakes. The material is accurate in every detail. This book stands alone in its class. All traders should review this broad piece and learn its tactics no matter what time frame they work in.

There are many charts which take up half of the book, but since most of the time the chart being referenced in the text is on another page, it's a hassle to jump back and forth. The writing style could cure insomnia.
As in Larry Williams' daytrading book, this book would have benefitted greatly by inclusion of Performance Reports with Profit Factors, ROI, consecutive losers and the like. In fairness to the author, he provides the results of all trades in a month period for the different time periods (1-minute through 60-minutes) for various futures including the DM. These could have been enhanced with profit targets, it was surprising to see better than potential $1000+ trades allowed to turn into losers.
Once the single system was explained, the various futures could have been presented with 1 time frame Performance Report and the best value, on successive pages.
Unfortunately since Barnes limited himself to 1 month of trades, there is insufficient information on those time frames greater than 1 or 5 minute charts, to determine the validity of the system. One needs a minimum of 30 samples and in many instances there are only 3 trades for the time period presented.
Better editing would have enhanced the value of this book in making it more comprehensible and capable of the system being confirmed as being viable.
