First rate journalistic account of the end of the War
Alan Dawson is an excellent journalist who covered the fall of Saigon from the city itself. Not surprisingly, he is highly critical of the U.S. leadership that failed to get a large number of its Vietnamese employees out during the chaotic evacuation. He is also highly critical of the corrupt South Vietnamese regime that squandered billions of dollars in American aid and ultimately sacrificed their country to the communists almost without a fight. I would recommend this book over "The Fall of Saigon" which is far less readable.

Much more coherent than the movie.
This novelization was so much better than the movie. It flowed and did not get caught up in the special effects for kids that the movie featured.

If you thought the movie lacked something--it's in this novelization.

Inspirational
Whether you are wondering how you will pay for college, or what career path to choose, this book provides inspirational stories from several college professors who have experienced God's leading in their lives while they were college students. I would recommend this book for college students who are having doubts about the path their lives should follow. The book itself is easy to read and since each chapter could stand alone as a short story, it doesn't need to be read from cover to cover. Instead it could be used as a devotional or read for inspiration.

useful info, no color pictures, hardcover, lightweight
500 pages, all B&W [not color]; hardcover, but light [~12 oz?], 4.5x7x1. Good intro section, 80 pages. maps are within the book, some full page, some smaller for details of city center, etc. Divided by geographical regions: Lima, 40pgs; North of Lima 40pg; Northern Peru, 70 pg; Arequipa & south, 35 pg; Lake Titicaca area 20 pg; Cusco area [includes Macchu Piccu etc, all the main Inca sites around Cusco] 45 pg; Central highlands 40pg; Amazon area, 30 pg. Travel tips, 25 pgs, good index of topics & maps. "tinted boxes" are little "essays" that are inserted into the flow of the more practical details, which are generally entertaining & informative. They may be as important as a "big picture" discussion of Macchu Picchu, to the fact that Pisac is known for a great place to buy beaded necklaces. I had no interest in the details on accomodations [hotels, eating, etc], as I was on an organized tour; but there are such things in there. also reviewed: Lonely Planet Peru, Rough guide Peru, and Insight guide Peru.

A definitive work marred by its presentation
It seems churlish to criticise what is undoubtedly a definitive reference book with a remarkable format: not a word of print appears anywhere - all the text (including the forward and the publication details) is handwritten and photo-reproduced. The sadness is that the author has limited ability as a cartographer and graphic designer. His use of colour is inept and the maps - which are intended as things of beauty - look cramped and amateurish. But it is a treasure store of information collected in one place and the author must be given credit for his industry and organisation.

Novel not too bad
I have read the play and it made me think twice about the Anzac Day Tradition and how it's being a generation wipe-out, and how people are treating Anzac Day as if it was a holiday, some people respect the 'diggers' some have no faith.

Good book for research.
This book was a good help for researching the history of VIPs in US and European history. However sometimes not all the information which is provided is absolutly correct within the hole Who's Who series. But it is certainly a good starting point and I would definitly recommend it.

Stinks...
This book is really, really, bad, it has less information then the instruction manual concering strategy... i wouldn't recommend it to ANYONE...

The best strategy guide that I have ever read!
Informative, witty, a good book even if you don't play the game

A great book
Since it only handles Civilization 1 it's out of date, but it's informative AND hilarious...

If you have a thyroid problem this book won't help!
I read this book & was very disappointed. It has some basic things that anyone with a thyroid problem already knows. As far as the diagnosis method it is to eat a 1000 calorie diet for 28 days to see if you loose weight normally. And the diet to lose weight is to eat 1000 calories a day. Very unhealthy & unrealistic.

Very Complete
There are a number of good books available that deal with thyroid and weight. This is one of the most complete.

While Dr. Siegal is an obvious proponent of the idea that many people have undiagnosed thyroid problems, you shouldn't rule out the possibility that he is correct in his thinking.

If after you read this book, take all the tests, fill out the checklists, keep track of your temperature, and try his 28-day eating test, you don't think you got your money's worth, I'd be surprised.

The 28-day part of the title is a way to evaluate your metabolic function. There is a bit of math involved, but it's not especially difficult.

You use your present weight, your weight on day 29, various charts that help you calculate exactly how many calories you eat, how many you need to maintain your weight, and a number of other factors that will, in the end, tell you just how easy or difficult it is for you, personally, to lose weight.

This book does not support any one way of eating: it's not low calorie, it's not low fat, it's not low carbohydrate. It's not a diet book at all. It simply calculates your metabolic functioning based on whatever way you eat.

Dr. Siegal also gives strong arguments for the use of natural thyroid supplementation as opposed to the use of synthetics.

While some may find it too detailed, I think it's most complete in its coverage of this topic. In a way, it takes a lot of what other books have and presents all in one place.

The medical jargon may be a bit difficult, but it's great information to take to your doctor.

By the way, Dr. Siegal has a web site at: http://www.drsiegal.com

The book also provides web URL's to a number of sites dealing with thyroid.

Is Your Thyroid Making You Fat? Could Be!
As a doctor of pharmacy candidate and published reviewer ofmedical literature, I am in constant contact with patients whocomplain that their doctor dismisses a metabolic problem as the cause of their obesity. While hypothyroidism certainly is not the cause of all obsesity, Dr. Siegal makes a very convincing argument that, for many, it may be. Since his concern about the reliability of the TFT laboratory tests stems from his experience with many patients, his opinions are worthy of consideration.

My only complaint about the book is that Dr. Siegal does get carried away in his explanation of hypothyroidism. For doctors (and perhaps that is the audience he had in mind), the detail is appropriate, but the average reader might choose to skip some of the technical explanations.

As a medical professional, I am not inclined to dismiss the observations of a practicing physician who has treated thousands of patients for obesity. This book offers hope to those who don't overeat but can't seem to lose weight on any diet. END

Poor Editing .Full of printing errors in the practice tests
Poor Editing. Full of printing errors in the practice tests

Good, but poorly edited and written
I have mixed feelings about this book. On one hand, I appreciated the concise and to-the-point style. I found it easier to brush up on my quantitative and verbal skills with this book than with other GMAT books. If you are short on time then this book would be a good choice. However, the sheer volume of errors really bugged the hell out of me. Most of them are stupid editing errors (occurring on virtually every page), but I also found some critical errors with the practice questions. The massive number of mistakes detracted from my ability to study effectively because I was always second-guessing the book. I found this to be an unforgiveable sin for a test prep book and so I only give two stars instead of four.

Packed with real help!
I highly recommend this book. Small in price and page length, but packed with practical skill-building materials that don't insult the reader's intelligence. Explanations for practice questions are the most thorough of any GMAT book I've seen. Kudos! What I liked best is that the author provides online support for the book. (Why don't more authors do this?) At the end of each lesson the reader is referred to online materials (at the author's web site) that supplement the lesson. Cool!
