An idispensable guide
This is a superb guide and indispensable if you live in the area or plan to visit. The history and lore of each area is wonderfully brought out which entices one to explore further. Indeed, this book is as much a history as travel guide. Which is not to say it lacks anything as a straight-forward travel directory. The maps are useful and well drawn. The directions and road guides are carefully constructed with day itinerary's and helpful suggestions. Cautions such as advising against walking tours in marsh areas during hunting season, for example, are especially useful. I can't imagine a better wrought guide and, for the record, I have no connection with the author or publisher.

Days of Destiny: Crossroads in American History
Days of Destiny: Crossroads in American History edited by James M. McPherson and Alan Brinkley is a book that brings thirty-one of todays best-selling and most respected historians together into a project that is engaging with unparalleled scholarship, as the question that is asked are there moments in American History when something old ends and something new begins. This book takes us from King Philip's 1675 parley with white colonial officials to the 1973 research conference at which the biotechnology revolution was announced.

This is a book that will court your mind with its information and insight, making a very fascinating read about the turbulent course of American History. As some of the historian chose wars, presidents, battles and politics, others chose areas, of less well-known areas of study making a well-rounded book with crisp prose and readability that will keep your interest.

The contents are as follows:

As you can see this is a who's who line up of historians that chose a moment that changed history and you will not be disappointed reading the very well put together book, as it is a book of extraodinary acts and thoughts of exceptional people, and it is reflected by these scholars making a profound difference, not only in history but our daily lives.

This book is sponsored by the Society of American Historians and was written by members elected to the society because of their demonstrated capacity to write lucid, significant and very readable history. I found this book to provide stimulation and enjoyment, delivering an understanding of some of the central questions in American history. This is well worth your money to purchase and this volume is well appointed with illustrations further enriching your experience.

Worth searching for
If you're a M*A*S*H fan--or just have one in your life--you'll want to go to the extra trouble of trying to find this out-of-print volume. It's a photo-journal of the last week of filming M*A*S*H, with all the pictures provided by Alan Alda's talented wife. She had unusual access to a very closed set and was therefore able to capture a lot of raw emotion. Her photos, combined with her husband's often poignant commentary, do much to convey a sense of what was happening to the group of players that had called the 4077th their home. Perhaps because the initial profits went to charity--though probably because it was genuinely there--a real sense of love permeates this work. THE LAST DAYS OF M*A*S*H was no attempt to capitalize on the hysteria surrounding the end of the series, but an authentic documentary effort.

Lazy B

A Glimpse into a Vanishing Way of Life
Supreme Court justice Sandra Day O'Connor and her brother, H. Alan Day, tell the story of growing up in the harsh yet beautiful land of the Lazy B Ranch in Arizona. The book is organized as a series of vignettes ranging from character sketches of the cowboys who spent their lives on the ranch to rain to the BLM.

I loved this book. I first became aware of it during a trip to southern Arizona. The authors describe a way of life -- on an isolated cattle ranch -- that is almost extinct. I knew that water was important in such a land, but I didn't know that the majority of the time of the owners and employees of the ranch was spent in maintaining the wells, windmills and pumps that provided that water.

Good choice Ronnie.
Sandra Day O'Connor and Alan Day have written a autobiography that reads like a saga. In the first chapter we learn about the Lazy B. Judging by the size of the Lazy B, 15 miles by 16 miles, I'd venture to guess this is where the term "spread" originated. Not only do we learn the Lazy B encompassed most of the State of Arizona but that it was founded on historic land that was part of the Gadsden Purchase.

In Chapter two we meet Pa Day. Day, a hard working hands-on cattle rancher and shrewd businessman, begrudgingly shot 800 head of cattle in order to keep the ranch solvent.

In other chapters we meet Ma Day, along with a number of the colorful ranch hands, and even some of the family pets.

The book is loaded with photos of the Day family, the ranch, the livestock, and the ranch hands. After reading "Lazy B..." I felt fortunate to have read this firsthand account of the life of a woman who will someday find her way into our history books.

This is the story of a woman who became one of the most powerful women in America. I now know why President Ronald Reagan was so very impressed with Sandra Day O'Connor; appointing her to serve as the first woman justice to the United States Supreme Court.

Highly recommended for readers of all ages. Cammy Diaz

Beatifully captures a bygone era of the American Southwest
I loved reading this beautiful, gritty account of the remote Arizona cattle ranch where O'Connor and her brother grew up. The book is a portrait of the Lazy B ranch and the family and cowboys who created and sustained it for over a century. O'Connor's account is unromantized and yet touching, and it succeeds in vividly revealing a bygone way of life from the old West.

We see the the daily rhythms and activities of ranch life, the ongoing struggles of the Day family to keep the ranch afloat, and portraits of the colorful, rugged cowboys who worked at the Lazy B for most of their lives. And we hear the perspectives and fond recollections of the young girl (O'Connor) and her brother who grew up there.

If you are drawn to the West, you'll enjoy this book as much as I did.

Good for teenagers
I read this series for the first time as a teenager, and I have to note with some sadness that I think it's definitely lost stars for me as an adult reader.

The premise of the Spellsinger series is that an aspiring singer/lawyer (Jon-Tom) is pulled into an alternative universe where all animals except lizards can talk and think and he has magical powers as a spellsinger. But since all he knows are rock songs from our western world, his results are occasionally unpredicatable.

In this book, Jon-Tom has to go searching for medicine for his mentor Clothahump. On the way he picks up a 7-foot high white tiger, his irascable companion Mudge, and a teenage street kid named Folly. Hilarity and mayhem ensues.

The spellsinger books are light on the realism and heavy on the humor. Note that many of the jokes are dependent on knowing pop culture from the 80s. I laughed at the Def Leppard jokes. Current teens may not get them.

In vain hope I pray for more Spellsinger novels...
There is a rather ludicrous sense of majesty surrounding the Spellsinger series. A sometimes comic, sometimes morbid world where the imagination of one obvious rock fan can proceed uninhibited by the averages of fantasy guidelines. Mr. Foster, accidently, I believe, created a bit of a masterpiece when he sculpted the first of the Spellsinger series, which has, all the way through it's last installment, Chorus Skating, supplied new and various dishes for those travelers on this world which the offer never bothers to identify. This book, in particular, captures the sheer ridiculousness and fun at the heart of the Spellsinger series; it's a kind of jovial feeling you sense that the characters would partake of as well, were they confronted with this astounding piece of literature. Now, all I want to know is...will there be any more? : ) I can only pray and hope!

Jon-Tom's having female problems...
There are a few lyrics to the Eagle's 'Take it Easy' that would fit this book: the love of Jon-Tom's life has gotten cold feet and run off; he tries to get himself out of a jam and conjures up a seven foot tigress that's a little bit sweet on him; and he meets a pretty girl that really wants to be his friend - too bad she's jailbait! And to top it all off, Mudge gets into trouble with the ladies at every turn.

A Complete Insight Into The Master Swing Trader
Farley's book compares very well with my favorite swing trading book, Dave Landry on Swing Trading.

Discretionary traders will like the fact that Farley believes trading is more art than science. The Master Swing Trader still relies on pattern interpretation, after all. What Farley terms "Pattern Cycles," in fact, form the core of his methodology.

Farley, also, makes ample use of charts and examples that greatly aid in understanding. However, the example-charts at times appear to be too detailed or "cluttered," but this is a minor complaint.

This is a book that is very broad in content. There are chapters on "Preparing For the Market Day," and one on "Understanding Time." Candlesticks are added to the discussion throughout, as are those indicators commonly found in software charting packages.

The best parts of the book, however, are the chapters devoted to the "7-Bells," one chapter for each, which disuss seven specific pattern setups that seek to capitalize on predictable crowd behavior. The "Finger Finder" (one-bar candlestick reversals) is just one "bell" example that could improve your short-term trading immediately.

Must Have for Traders
The Master Swing Trader by Alan Farley will improve your chart reading skills faster than any other trading book I have read (and I have a LARGE technical analysis library.) Whether you trade from 5 minute charts or never look at the market during the trading day, this book will improve your bottom line.

Every book claims it is going to help you understand chart patterns, but then limits the coverage to items like the classical head-and-shoulders or triangle patterns using standard breakout techniques. Alan takes you inside these patterns, and often shows you how to beat the crowd by understanding what is really happening. His approach has much lower risk and often a higher profit potential.

And that is only the start. Classical patterns are the ones that "everyone" knows, but unfortunately, what everyone knows seldom makes money. The Master Swing Trader takes the concepts that make up patterns, and shows you where invisible trades often exist. But since the general public doesn't see the early trade, they buy or sell after you have established your position. This improves your risk/reward ratio even further.

This book is not for the absolute beginning trader, since it assumes some knowledge of basic technical analysis. There are several points in the book where Alan assumes you have already heard of Vic Sperandeo's 2B Top or Dr. Alexander Elder's Triple Screen method. (Keep reading - they are eventually explained.) But if you are looking for a book that does more than just rehash existing materials, this is the one you've been looking for, this is the one.

Absolutely the Best Release on the Subject
I started in the markets 6 years ago and now trade full time. I have read most of the books out there on trading. While I usually walk away from a book with a few lines of wisdom, Master Swing Trader left me with much more. It should be considered the reference book on swing trading. Any trader with a decent background in the markets will learn from this book. A beginner might consider it, but be warned: this is advanced material.

I see many good reviews by people who appreciate this excellent book. I truly believe anyone who rates it poorly has other motives. This book covers everything, including detailed techniques, crowd psychology and how to avoid stupid mistakes. The material is accurate in every detail. This book stands alone in its class. All traders should review this broad piece and learn its tactics no matter what time frame they work in.

Buy another Book
This book is easy to read that is the only good thing about it.

If you are looking to use the examples in this book you will be sadly mistaken. The mirely don't work. In short a disappointment. If you buy this book don't be suprised if you want your money back. Part II is just as bad.

In you want a book that is easy to understand for all levels and scripting from the first day buy JavaScript Bible, It's excellent.

Short & to the Point!
I found this book very useful. I did not have the same difficulties as other reviewers.(I found no mistakes in the book, perhaps the earlier reviews alluded to problems that have since been corrected by the publisher)I loved the fact that there was no B.S, just what I needed to know.I was not an expert in Java but this book allowed me to get the training I needed without wasting my time. I would recommend it to users who do not have alot of time on their hands but need quick, competent training. I do not need the 'Java Bible' as another reviewer mentioned. I need to be able to do my job and quickly, this book helped me do that plain and simple- Samara Alman

IT'S WORTH IT!
"This is a very good book for the people who wish to make fancy personal web pages. This book grooms your Java Script concepts and also touches some nerves of of advanced scripting techniques. It is a good start for beginners and a very good refence book for the advanced users. In short, It's worth the price !" -B. Kataria, NY
