A profound writing that has passed the test of centuries
First written in eighteenth century, The Elements Of Moral Philosophy by David Forduce is a dramatic text embodying man's moral facilities, social obligations, human duty to God, and much more. A profound writing that has passed the test of centuries to offer relevant wisdom in the field of philosophy, this new edition is edited and features an introduction by Thomas D. Kennedy (Associate Professor of Philosophy, Valparaiso University). The Elements Of Moral Philosophy is core addition to Philosophy Studies reference collections.

Great Gift
This book may be small in size, but it is packed with deep metaphysical information. It is a subject that affects us all every day of our lives and it is the ideal book to keep with you and dip into frequently. I have several of Richard Lawrence's books and I enjoy the way he makes even the most complex subjects, very clear and logical. It is said that the greatest gift you can give another person is wisdom. This book really does make a great gift.

A timely book of karma
It is obivious that Richard knows his subject inside out. He is able to impart the complex and much of the time a hidden and mysterious subject in to laymans terms. He accomplishes this through his own experiences and that of others who have gone before him. This book is a goldmine of information, despite its size it is ideal for anyone wanting to learn more about karma and get ahead in life. Thoroughly recommended!

The HUGE 'little book of karma'
I have studied many books on metaphysics and karma but this 'little book' has explained more about karma with very easy to read examples that I have yet to find. I found this book simple yet profound, light reading yet deep in context. This book is sure to go far and I will be telling everyone I know about it. Don't leave home without it...

Fairy Tale As Myth Myth As Fairy Tale (Thomas D. Clark Lectures)
Published in Hardcover by University Press of Kentucky (1994)
Author: Jack David Zipes
Amazon base price: $33.00
Average review score:

Excellent.
Zipes' qualifications for writing about this subject are impeccable, and his years of teaching show easily here. Chapters include stuff about traditional fairy tales, sure, but also writeups on Disney animation (hint: he's not real thrilled at some ways Disney has "tidied up" fairy tales). You'll never watch "The Little Mermaid" in quite the same way again.

This is more of a philosophical treatment than anything else. There isn't extensive hard history here; they're writeups of lectures, not papers, though sources are cited. Consider these ruminations on fairy tales and their relevance to modern culture -- how they are treated, how they are disseminated, how they've changed in the past couple hundred years. The book isn't very long, but it has a lot of good observations in it.

I found it invaluable for its insights; Zipes has found a sincere admirer in me. If you are interested in fairy tales in modern culture, this is definitely somewhere you might enjoy playing.

A nice find
This book is helpful for people like me, who aren't searching for really deep and complex meanings in Pynchon's novels. This manages to not only demystify some of the complexities, it also helps to simply add some structure to the novels. The chapter on V was particularily helpful in just finding out what was going on, especially with Stencil's eight impersonations. A good place to start for those wondering more about Pynchon's novels...

Fundamental Legal Conceptions As Applied in Judicial Reasoning (Classical Jurisprudence Series)
Published in Hardcover by Ashgate Publishing Company (2002)
Authors: Wesley Newcomb Hohfeld, David Campbell, and Philip Thomas
Amazon base price: $74.95
Average review score:

An early book on Deontic Logic, from 1913 Yale Law Journal
This book is a reprint of two Yale Law Journal articles from 1913 and 1917, and the 1964 reprint was a republication of the 1919 edition. The author, Professor Wesley Newcomb Hohfeld, distinguished four different types of "legal relations" or "rights" including right-duty; privileges; powers and immunities. The last two relate to the ability to create or discharge the first two. The results have been explained by Arthur Corbin, see especially 29 Yale L. J. 163 (1919) and reprinted in Jerome Hall, Readings in Jurisprudence (1938); Layman Allen (1998 Notre Dame Law Review) and Kevin Saunders (Akron Law Review) and in various books on "deontic logic" which is the logic of "obligation" (or duty) and "permission" (or privilege). See also some articles and texts by the Finish logician Georg Henrik von Wright, especially the 1951 article. Professor Hohfeld died in 1918, and his 1913 paper is one of the most often cited articles in legal jurisprudence. Some of Hohbfeld's terminology can be confusing. The terms "duty" and "privilege" are real "duals" of each rather than negatives. The 1917 paper also distinguished four different matters in which "right" is used -- (1) right in the strict sense, (2) udicial proceedings, (3) judgments and decreees, (4) enforcement, see 1964 book at 69.

Fundamentals of Computational Fluid Dynamics
Fundamentals of Computational Fluid Dynamics is one of several technically useful books on the subject. What sets it apart, however, is its ability to attract and maintain the reader's interest in what could otherwise be a dry topic.

The authors walk the student through a logical development of all aspects of the material. Helpful examples and end-of-chapter exercises solidify student learning in a practical manner. This book is an excellent resource, focusing on the fundamentals of the topic, and has my full recommendation.

GATEWAY: Dr. Thomas Walker & the Opening of Kentucky
This is a very well written, photographed and illustrated book that reveals many little known truths about the origins of Kentucky and the migration west through Cumberland Gap. It is a must read for all students of early Kentucky history. Virtually every other page contains either a map, illustration or beautiful photograph. The photography by world-renowned photographer, Adam Jones, is simply stunning! In truth, it is the photography of Adam Jones that first attracted me to this outstanding book. As a student of early Kentucky history, I consider this book in particular to be indispensable to understanding the truth surrounding the opening of Kentucky and all points west. This is a truly great historical work, replete with bibliograhical references, indicative of the author's extensive research. Therefore, I highly recommend it!
