Kill to get this book
This book is a must have for anyone interested in a career in animation. It is the only book of its kind that interviews real animators in all walks of the field. These are important names in animation past and present. Chuck Jones, Glenn Keane, Don Bluth, Jack Hannah, Ron Clements,Bill Scott, John Pomeroy and many many more. You can't ask for much more. These are the people who brought you Bugs, Little Mermaid and The Beast,Bullwinkle, Donald Duck, Flintstones, NIMH, Space Ace, and even the California Raisins. It asks them all the questions you would want to ask if you met them yourself. How did you get started? What is a day like for you? Where should I go to school to learn? What advice do you have for me as a beginnner? How do I get a job in animation? What skills are people looking for? No other book can offer you this perspective. "How to Create Animation" is tragically out of print. Hopefully it will be reprinted someday with additional interviews and include animators of Rugrats, Spongebob, Ren and Stimpy and other modern classics. If you burn inside to have questions like these answered for you by animation greats, do whatever you have to do to get your hands on this book. It is unique in all the world of animation.

The Best of the Best
If you are a dancer or a dance-related professional, just read it no matter what. In such a compact book, you couldn't want any more. A dance department in a college would open a new course named "Psychology of Dance" if they knew that this book existed. I am going to translate it into a foreign language.

A wonderful resource of information!
It is rare for me to read a book that in seemingly every page
is an "a-ha" realization...the proverbial "lightbulb effect". I would guess that those who have been trying to cope with or
understand the bizarre behaviors of their borderline loved one will have a similar reaction in reading this book. I commend the authors for their diligent research into BPD and their accurate assessment of this serious disorder.
In my previous relationship, I was sure that everything would

eventually be OK as long as I loved her enough and continued to be patient with her. I knew she was suffering
inside but I didn't know why. Since then, with the help of this
book and others, I have learned a great deal about this debilitating condition. I am grateful to the authors for this understanding of BPD for with understanding comes
added COMPASSION and love for this troubled person.
In my case, I finally began to realize that nobody can "make"
another person happy if that person is not happy inside, and does not begin to take responsibility for their own abnormal thinking and actions. Hopefully,
by the invaluable knowledge presented in this book and by
working together as a loving team, you will have a happier outcome than I.....I hope so.
In closing, I would like to offer what I believe could possibly be the
only real hope for borderlines for it deals directly at the
core of BPD- their dysfunctional thinking (thoughts).
I believe that borderlines can change the way they think and
thereby reduce or eliminate their destructive behaviors. I would encourage you to at least investigate this profound
possibility by reading, "You Can Be Happy No Matter What," and, "The Wisdom Within", and further study the life-changing principles and concepts of "Health Realization" on the web.
I wish you the best!

Thankyou!
This book is an absolute life-saver when dealing with the BP in your life, and how you interact with them. I never realised how completely enraged my BP got me because it was all piling up into problems elsewhere, until doing some of the exercises in here. Now I know where my buttons are, and when my BP is trying to hit them, and different ways that I can deal with this without making the situation worse in the long run. This book is a must for anyone living with a BP, whatever the age.

-Daughter of a BP (18)

How to Reclaim Sanity in Your Life
A tremendous resouce for anyone involved with borderline or other disorders. I can't say enough about this book. It will change your life in ways you never thought possible. I was able to regain my dignity, self esteem and take steps to put me in control of a situation I thought hopeless. Both books, Stop Walking on Eggshells and the Workbook are at the top of the list of the books we recommend at MSN Psychopath forum. There should be a 10-star rating for this one!!

A Good Book, But Word is Not My Choice for Legal Documents
As a forced convert from Word Perfect, I was looking for a resource that would allow me to do two things: (1) learn Microsoft Word; and (2) integrate it into my practice.

Ms. Payne's book helped me with the first task and made Word a much easier program for me to utilize.

I was somewhat disappointed, however, in the second aspect. I would like to automate my litigation documents to a greater extent, but I couldn't fully realize this goal. At the end of the day, I'd like to turn out better, more polished legal documents, but, I think there are some limitations in either my own understanding or the software that prevent me from being as effective as I'd like. At more than 700 pages, Ms. Payne's book certainly contains a good deal of information and suggestions as to how Word can be used in a law firm environment, but I found it to be most helpful as a Microsoft Word resource.

Excellent book - Well Done
I found the book easy to follow with a lot of useful information in the form of tips and cautions. I purchased the book to prepare for the Word 2002 MOUS exam (and passed). I cannot recommend it highly enough.

It's about time.
The legal industry pushes documentation applications to the max. I had never been a major fan of previous versions of Word as a user *and* a technical trainer. Microsoft has finally introduced a version of Word I can train users in without having to be the bearer of bad news to my students with "You can but..." WordPerfect fans can't chortle anymore. Does this version of Word knock the socks off of WordPerfect? Not exactly. Can it compete? You better believe it.

And now for the book review. It was a joy to read. How about that? This one isn't dry like the other book that will remain nameless. No hard feelings really. Kitty shredded it. Perhaps, kitty isn't as dumb as I thought.

I'm probably my worst student. I've got the attention span of gold fish. For me, it's get to the point, I'll pass on the fluff, and tell me something I don't already know. This is the strongest introduction to Word specifically for the legal industry *and,* dare I say, power users. Very few errors. Solid exercises. I highly recommend it for newbies and self-proclaimed experts alike. There's something for everyone. It's a good read and their tips & tricks are valueable. This one's a keeper from home desk to brief case to office.

Amazingly comprehensive
I work as a clerk in a video store, and plan on entering film school. I am often asked to find movies based on the slimmest of details. They range from "a two year old movie with Al Pacino" to "that movie who had the guy from that movie that was nominated for best picture last year". While sometimes I'm able to decipher my customer's meaning, I am often lost. This book has essentially eliminated that problem.

I have never seen a video guide as cross-referenced or as complete as this one. You can use title, subject, actor, director, cinametographer, composer, award winning (you can look to see what movie won the academy award for best song in 1935 or the independent spirit award for first feature in 1987), and then you can find a description and a review. After searching half a dozen of these types of books, I found the 2000 version of the VideoHound - and then ordered the 2001 version that night. I had been rating these references by completeness, when I found Frank Whaley (star of independent movie Swimming with Sharks and minor character in Pulp Fiction) in the actor directory - I knew I had my book.

The only reason that I didn't give this book a five-star review is due to personal preference. I didn't agree with many of their reviews. Somewhat unfair, I realize, but a problem for me nonetheless.

This is perhaps the necessary guide for any movie lover. I know that I'm taking it to my store.

Comprehensive, multi-indexed; a great movie reference
For the third year in-a-row, this is the only movie guide I've bought, simply because it's the one where I'm most likely to find what I'm looking for. I still appreciate all the different ways of cross referencing, especially the listing of actors/actresses, since I often can't remember a movie title, but can remember who was in it. You know how that is.

The individual film listings go way beyond director and key actors. Even less-than-star players get a mention, as well as the writer, cinematographer, and composer/lyricist. Also included is a listing of all the nominations and awards a film received. Every so often, a particular review will give a heads-up about an interesting piece of movie trivia, or cameo by someone who didn't get top billing.

I'd be inclined to give this five stars, but I'm still waiting for the editor to put back the foreign film index and the "content warning" descriptions, which were very useful to me, but discontinued after the 1999 edition. Still, I'd recommend this fine reference to everyone.

Most comprehensive and fun movie/video guide around.
I've been plunking down... $ a year for 5 years now for the annual VideoHound guide, and I'm quite happy I've done so. No one video guide is complete, but VH comes the closest, reviewing not only the a-list movies, but many of the b-to-z grade movies too. The reviews are concise and usually informative (and often sarcastic), and I tend to agree with most of the ratings given. The VH also attempts to make available format information beyond the standard VHS and DVD- you can look up whether a movie was released on 8-mm videocassette, laserdisc, CD-i, and Beta, as well. However, the information on these alternate formats is quite scanty- probably half of the movies in my laserdisc collection are listed as being VHS or VHS/Beta only.

The VH doesn't stop where other movie guides do- almost half of the book consists of indexes- some incredibly useful, some not. The star and director indexes are alone worth the price of the book- my only complaint is that the star index only lists people with several movies under their belt. Stars who have appeared in only one or two movies don't show up- but perhaps an index listing them would be prohibitively large. The category index (want movies about waitresses or poetry?) is fun, but most of the listings are merely representative, rather than comprehensive. The VH contains quite a few more indexes, reflecting movie awards, cinematographers, and more.

I wish the book contained alternate titles alphabetically in the body of the movie index (with a reference to the title the movie is reviewed under.) This would obviate the need for the alternate title index, and would make searching for movies a lot more intuitive. I also have quibbles with some of the movie reviews and ratings, but this is a given in any video guide. These complaints are minor, however- the VideoHound fills the role of video guide incredibly well, better than any other book I've ever tried.

A real great rrrrrrrrrreview for a great rrrrrrrreview book
This book is so much better than the Leonard Maltin paperbacks that I have purchased in the past. It is full of more information, it is bigger and easier to read and it certainly can not get lost. It is a valuable part of our living room. I love having it right there to help in choosing our viewing selections. I like to highlight the movies that we have seen and compare notes with the review after!

Gotta have it!
Ever since the demise of the wonderful Cinebooks library with its yearly annuals, I've had to rely on the Videohound. While it doesn't begin to offer the wealth of detail that Cinebooks did, it is none the less a very comprehensive listing of available films--both for TV and for general release. The reviews are intelligent and fair and it does have an extremely useful series of indexes at the back: the performer index--in case you remember the name of someone in the cast but not the name of the film; the director index and an awards index.

If you absolutely must know the details about a film, or what roles a particular actor has played, here's your book. Other sources, like Leonard Maltin's guide just don't cut it.
Highly recommended.

A howling great guide
This is the by far BEST movie guide I have found. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. It has real honest reviews from the perspective of a moviegoer that just wants to be entertained , not that overly intellectual stuff you read sometimes and say, "Did this reviewer see the same movie as I did"? The reviews are fun to read and very funny at times.

But don't kid yourself, it is all here. Foreign films, samurai, westerns, 50's sci-fi, art films, you name it. And it has a categories index so you can quickly locate all the films in your personal favorite type of film.

This book is huge! No other guide I have seen tries to include every film ever made, the other review books snobbily skip the movies they decide are not important. Not this book, it has over 25,000 films!!! This is very comprehensive, which makes this book much bigger than the other guys guides. But that is OK, I hate the other reviewers guides since they do not have all the movies this one does.

Very easy to use and locate a film quickly. You can cross reference anything with the great index and layout of this guide. Indexes to look up films by director, writer, composer, cinematographer, or actor, awards, series, as well as title or alternate titles. Even has an internet guide. I have bought quite a few movie guides, but if I could only have one, this is it.

Wilderness~writings of a rock star/poet
I have had the book Wilderness for many y ears now and I simply love it. Not only was Jim a rock star, but he was a magnificent poet. I have read some reviews where they said you had to be a drugged out loser in order to understand his poetry, which is so very NOT true. There are many different types of people who love Morrison's poetry, and you don't have to high to read it and understand where this man was coming from. It came from deep personal feelings. I find that amazing, when a person can share the happenenings surrounding his life with the rest of the world. Not too many people have this gift, and I admire Jim Morrison very much for sharing his life, music and beautiful words with us. I will cherish his writings for eternity.

Beautiful Poetry Book (Even if you aren't a Doors fan)
"Wilderness" is a wonderful book of poetry no matter who wrote it. Jim Morrison was interesting to say the least, but his poems really stand on their own. The poems are beautiful, honest, and intriguing and cover a wide range of topics from women to music to America to growing-up. That being said, they offer a candid look at one of rock music's most infamous characters. Though often portrayed as a talentless drunk, the book is proof of the wonderful, sensitive artist that he really was. The style is slightly reminiscent of Beat poetry with beautiful phrases and words placed in specific ways that are visually effective. In addition to the poetry, the book also contains a two-page "self-interview" in which Jim explains kind of how he got into writing and why he loves poetry. "Listen," he says, "real poetry doesn't say anything, it just ticks off the possibilities. Opens all doors. You can walk through any one that suits you." Really, if you are even remotely interested in poetry or Jim Morrison get this book. I promise you won't regret it.

Jim Morrison: Overlooked poet
Wilderness is a wonderful book for anyone who loves to write, or deeply enjoys reading poetry. It is quite sad that some people in our society automatically think that Morrison's poetry is trash just because of the fact that he was a rock star as well as a poet. Morrison wrote beautifully and the depth that he concentrated into each one of his works shines through. This is a great book for anyone who appreciates Morrison or good poetry, I highly recommend it.

Interesting but kind of shallow.
Considering the book is about Roger Corman the shallowness might be understandable.

The book is a retrospective of some of his movies and a little bit of the life he spent around them. The anecdotes are interesting and for the most part the book is well written.

The main problem that I had with the book is the length and the lack of detail about the movies and the making of them. In only a couple of cases does he go into any real depth. Most of the movies are limited to a few paragraphs.

I think that I would have preferred a book with fewer movies being covered but greater depth of coverage.

All in all a good book for those that are fans of Roger's films, as I am. However don't expect any major revelations.

A thoughtful book about crab creatures and criminal bikers
A terrific book, loaded with great stories and anecdotes about the world of low-budget film making-- from its heyday in the 50's and 60's, to the 1980's, when the industry kind of petered out because the major studios began making the types of visceral horror, science fiction, and exploitation movies previously reserved for "quickie" independent producers like Mr. Corman. It was fun to read this book and rent some of the films as they were being discussed. Another plus: the book is peppered with informative and revealing guest essays by the likes of Francis Coppola, Joe Dante, Martin Scorcese, Jack Nicholson, and various other directors, actors, and producers who worked with and/or got their start with Roger Corman. Though most of the comments about Mr. Corman in these essays are predictably laudatory, we are also allowed to read the occasional critical or negative observation, which permits the reader to get a nicely balanced view of the subject. The book is rounded out by a great selection of photos from the dozens of movies covered.

Mandatory reading for all retro buffs
Comprehensive, informative and extremely entertaining. Provides a fascinating insight into the career and personal thoughts of the world's most commercially successful independent film maker.Roger brings that whole era of classic, B-Grade sci fi and horror movies into sharp focus as he takes us behind the scenes with an endless array of wonderful stories. There's never a dull moment in this great little book which moves along with all the spontaneity ,zip and energy of a good Roger Corman movie. Mandatory reading for all retro buffs.
