The John Fante Reader
Published in Hardcover by William Morrow (19 Februar, 2002)
Authors: John Fante and Stephen Cooper
Amazon base price: $25.95

Inside the world of Fante
Stephen Cooper has done more justice to telling Fante's story than anyone. It is Steve Cooper who has brought Fante's stories back into the limelight again, giving him the voice he so desperately needed (and deserved) when he was alive. The John Fante Reader is a fantastic compilation of stories from all of Fante's work. From beginning to end, the reader is allowed to follow Fante on his journey as a young boy and into adulthood. This is a fabulous read if you have yet to be indoctrinated into the world of Fante as well as if you already love Fante and his out-of-control imagination and storytelling. This Reader puts together little bits and pieces of his best work. I have not laughed as much as I did reading the escapades of Fante's characters, or cry. He is raw and human and so alive in all of his writing. You won't be sorry for having read this. In fact, it will probably prompt you to run out and buy all of his books and read them one by one. It is almost like being teased, only getting to read bits and pieces from each story here. But they are fabulous stories, nonetheless.

I love this book and that stems largely from the fact that I love Fante. You don't have to be Catholic or ITALIAN to appreciate him. A huge thank you to Steve Cooper for putting this out in the world for everyone to enjoy.

In one word : buy it!
Definitively one of the best book on Cooper - at least one of the best in an iconographic way. Many pictures, all b/w, clear and very well defined, from the early years to Friendly Persuasion. The Kobal Collection is superbly show here. We knew Cooper was handsome, but after this viewing, we know it better. Laila Valente

Noble Street

Author: John L. Cooper

The Truth About Poverty and Racism
John Cooper's Noble Street taught me more about America's race and poverty problems than any history book would ever dare try to. Noble Street is hysterically funny and frighteningly sad. Having read this book I am painfully aware of three things: American racism is uglier than our imaginations will allow us to believe, nobody can destroy a child like a parent, and no one can save a child like a parent. Mabel Scriven is a true American hero who proves that love and faith may not conquer racism and injustice, but they are definitely our best weapons against it. After reading Noble Street you will never again believe that poverty and familial disintegration solely result from the choices of their victims. John Cooper makes it clear that if people had this kind of choice, poverty would not exist in America.

John Parnell's precise first-hand research + Paul Debois' great close-up photography yield an absolutely indispensible reference book for the serious Mini Cooper buyer + restorer.

With 120 pages featuring over 200 specially commissioned color photos that target specific distinctions between models + international variations, this book will reveal the true history of any car claiming to be an authentic Cooper or S. All those fake Coopers would undermine the value of real ones without this guide to distinguish between them.

Once you own a real Cooper, this book will point out which details are original + which details have been modified over the life of the car. That information should prove invaluable for winning concours events.

Raptor Biomedicine
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Minnesota Pr (Txt) (1993)
Authors: Patrick T. Redig, John E. Cooper, David Remple, and Bruce Hunter
Amazon base price: $49.95
Average review score:

Raptors & Medicine
The most complete handbook for rehabilitators of diurnal and nocturnal birds of prey. Very good information on all possible aspects of determining and healing all kinds of problems which could occur in this field. Good tables and figures complete this significant work and is a must have for laboratories and rehabilitation centers working with raptors and owls. Also falconers will gain a good impression on the possible diseases and illnesses of their most beloved birds. The only minus could be its presentation being ringbanded and if written by a typewriter but this should be forgotten as the information included is yet the best in its field in addition with previous work of these authors.

Comprehensive, Well Organized, Well Researched
As a real estate investor I often refer to this book when I am in need help making a decision. It is the next best thing to having a seasoned partner who has been through many market cycles. As a Licensed Commercial Real Estate Appraiser and Broker I am impressed with the material as well as how it is presented. While lifetime of practical knoweledge is somehow reduced to a single 900 page plus book, it is not "dumbed down" for mass appeal purposes. Although I was introduced to this book through a course at Boston University I found it's format more interesting than academic. When investing your money in real estate it is better to read a book like this and learn than, to "just do it" and learn the hard way, believe me. This book is a keeper for your professional library.

Reason and Emotion
Published in Paperback by Princeton Univ Pr (14 Dezember, 1998)
Author: John M. Cooper
Amazon base price: $35.00

Outstanding
I bought this book after having my interest sparked in Plato and Aristotle last year. I found that Cooper answered most of what my professors had simply labeled controversies, with had no real definitive answer, with remarkable ease. Cooper's work is impressive, but he is not arrogant or dogmatic. I particularly enjoyed his essays on Aristotle's conception of Friendship, Aristotle's views on contemplation, and the Greeks views on suicide and euthanasia. In general, I found the book to be absolutely necessary for anyone who has even a cursory interest in the Ancient Greeks.

Reason and Human Good in Aristotle
Published in Textbook Binding by Harvard Univ Pr (1975)
Author: John Madison Cooper

Aristotle for Everybody... in Gradschool
Mortimer J. Adler once wrote, "Aristotle For Everybody: Difficult Thought Made Easy," in which he truly does show that Aristotle is not so completely abstract (in contrast to Plato, Aristotle is not abstratct at all), that most everyone who can think or reason to some degree could understand him; that is, you don't have to be a professional philosopher. John M. Cooper's book, Reason and Human Good in Aristotle, is like Adler's book in that he is extremely clear in articulating what Aristotle thought about eudaimonia, theoria, and intellectual and moral virtues. This is a scholarly work. Cooper deals with the greek to defend his view. However, he leaves most of that in the footnotes. Cooper's book, then, is very accessible to lay persons who have a minimal philosophical understanding (some background is necessary, but nothing like a degree).

One thing that Cooper does that other commentators on Aristotle do not do is interpret Aristotle's coneption of human flourishing as involving an inclusive end, rather than a dominant one. Traditionally, scholars have interpreted Aristotle to be that eudaimonia consists of reflecting upon intellectual virtues, and everything else is a means to doing that. Cooper thinks that this is erronious and he works through Nicomachean Ethics and Eudemian Ethics to establish his case. This is a great read - both intellectually and in terms of clarity - for understanding Aristotle, or at least one interpretation of him.

Was this the book that was referred to in the play "ART"?
My friends and I saw the play "ART" in Los Angeles, with Alan Alda and two other very fine actors. The book Seneca was mentioned. The play was about a man buying a white on white painting and the relationship thereafter with his two friends.
