A brilliant if somewhat confusing finale
Was quite suprised with this book. Blake and the crew of the "Ventris" are taken on board of the the Worldship that was Amalthea, joining Sparta who had made contact with the alien, Thowintha. The alien entity on board takes them on a journey of knowledge through space and time, which changes many things for them, perceptionally and in Sparta and Blake's case, physically (gills are somewhat handy when living in a vessel that is filled with water). The finale of the book leaves a lot of questions, and you sit back a little thinking, "ok, how?" but typical of Preuss's good work, it is a very enjoyable story.

The Body: A Study in Pauline Theology
Published in Paperback by Westminster John Knox Press (1977)
Author: John Arthur Thomas, Bp., Robinson
Amazon base price: $3.95
Used price: $8.47
Average review score:

Hard to Explain . . .
But this is the best book on Christianity and its existential relation(s) to the embodied life that I've ever read! Every paragraph of Robinson's closely reasoned interpretation of Paul, the most prolific Christian enscripturated writer, opened whole new vistas on how the body, existentially understood, ties together every facet of Christianity. I'll have more to say about this book in a subsequent review . . . But, if you can find a copy of this little jewel, grab it and see what I mean. I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on this too.

Refreshing Look at Medical Decision Making
Clearly written! Excellent choice of exercises! This will make a good reading for anyone even remotely interested in making decisions in health care or medicine. The methods and techniques elucidated here will be useful at all levels of the health care system. Get a copy of this book and do not drop it until you've read it all. Probably, the most comprehensible state-of-the-art textbook of medical decision sciences devoid of undue jargon.

Gleanings from Paul

A Highly Necessary and Useful Work
I highly recommend Pink's fine study of the Pauline prayers. In a day when prayer is badly misunderstood and abused, this fine study of the apostolic example of prayer in Paul's writings provides a much needed balance. You will truly be blessed as you consider the fact that the Apostle did not pray for worldly blessings but true spiritual blessings that abide for eternity.

Handbook of Pharmaceutical Excipients

Handbook of Pharmaceutical Excipients
This is an excellent book that contains every phamaceutical excipient that I have ever had the need to know about. I work for a dietary supplement manufacturer and we quite often get calls from customers that want to know all about all those "other ingredients" that are listed on product cartons. The book has a section for each excipient and each excipient has the following sections: Nonproprietary Names, Synonyms, Chemical Name and CAS Registry Number, Empirical Formula and Molecular Weight, Structural Formula, Functional Category, Applications in Pharmaceutical Formulation or Technology, Description, Pharmacopeial Specifications, Typical Properties, stability and Storage Conditions, Incompatibilities, Method of Manufacture, Safety, Handling Precautions, Regulatory Status, Pharmacopeias, Related Substances, Comments, Specific References, General References, and Authors. While I have a background in Biology, I found several of the sections to be easy to understand by several of our employees that do not have a science background. While, still, there was highly technical/scientific information as well. Each excipient's information is contained in 2-4 pages. The book is arranged alphabetically which makes finding information easy. In addition, it contains an index that is very well constructed. For example: If you are looking for an Emulsifying Agent, the index lists all the excipients that can be used for that purpose. I can't say enough how easy this book is to use. Its information is pared down to the essential text, and is chocked full of graphs, charts and microscopic photos of the excipients.

Lord, Teach Us to Pray: A New Look at the Lord's Prayer

Excellent! A must for all who believe in Christ!
When I was reading this book, I kept on praying to God to forgive my pride and ignorance of overlooking the very deep and wide meaning Christ put into the Lord's Prayer. Now I agree with what Martin Luther said, as quoted by the author, that "I am convinced that when a Christian rightly prays the Lord's Prayer at any time...their praying is more than adequate." and what Dietrich Bonhoeffer said, that "The Lord's Prayer is the quintessence of prayer. A disciple's prayer is founded on and circumscribed by it."

In short, it is a book that no real Christian should miss. Actually, I nearly missed it. Thanks to God, I didnt, because I came across the following on the back cover:-

"Lord, Teach Us to Pray is biblically sound, spiritually rich, and intellectually stimulating. Boers shows the "Our Father" as prayer that is as wide as it is deep: it embraces all humanity's yearnings and touches the inner depths of the human heart. "

A Man Spoke, a World Listened: The Story of Walter A. Maier
Published in Paperback by Concordia Publishing House (1980)
Author: Paul L. Maier
Amazon base price: $9.95
Used price: $2.80

Golden Years for LC-MS's Radio Missions
A wonderfully detailed and moving account of the life of Dr. Walter A. Maier, professor at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis and first speaker for The Lutheran Hour. One gets an idea of the incredible faith, drive and far-sightedness of the man who oversaw the formation of KFUO Radio in radio's infancy, and the trials and triumphs of starting The Lutheran Hour during the Depression, and in the face of those who controlled much of the liberal drivel that characterized religious broadcasting of the time. This book also shows how a theologically conservative Church body embraced the latest technology of the time in Bringing Christ to the Nations. The World War II years are also covered, describing the profound effects of The Lutheran Hour's messages among laity, clergy and our Armed Forces around the world. One is amazed at the tremendous response to the broadcasts by so many, and of the huge Lutheran Hour Rallies that sprung up during the time which will, most likely, never again been seen in such magnitude. For a good overview of the "Golden Years" of Radio for the LC-MS, and for catching a passion for proclaiming the pure Gospel of Jesus Christ today, this book is a must read.

An easy to use, comprehensive text.
As a general practitioner who uses this book to answer fairly routine questions about care and treatment of children, I recommend it highly. It is easy to read and well organized. It openly acknowledges areas of ambiguity or controversy in the field and gives what appears to be a balanced view of the issues. I feel very comfortable relying on this text for most of my pedodontic questions.

Wonderful Sartrean examinations and crituques
This volume contains exceptional philosophical articles on the philosophy of Sartre. It covers every and all aspect of his life and thoughts. The critiques pull no punches and omit nothing. This work takes a hard look at the soundness of Sartre's philosophy. To find out if they hold up, read this volume. p.s. The interview with Sartre durring his later years is worth the price of the book alone. If you like Sartre, you will love this book.
