One of the worst Delphi books I have read
Basically this is a printed version of Delphi on-line help system. You already have exactly this information (but more complete) if you have Delphi, and it is in more convenient format for reading and navigating there. Save your money and time.

Ommisions mar this otherwise good book.
This is a good book that could have been great if the authors would have spent more time updating the information on Delphi 3's new VCL (including to new C/S version). As it stands now, if you have enough money to build a big Delphi library and you are a serious programmer, then you'll probably find occasions when this book will come in handy. Otherwise you will probably be better off spending you money elsewhere.

Delphi 3 Super Bible - What the Borland Help File Should Be
This book contains explanations and examples for every property, method, and event. Everything is sorted by the parent class so if you are working with a component you can look it up and see an example of how to use every aspect of it. This book would have gotten a 10 but there are a few ommisions (some of which are addressed on the enclosed diskette) because it was written prior to the final release of the software. Even so it has answered most of my questions. Better than the help file.

Suprise! It's a creationist book!
This little creationist book in disguise as a paleontology book is a dangerous piece of creationist babble. Not intended for those with weak minds.

Jasper Johns: New Paintings and Works on Paper
Published in Paperback by San Francisco Museum (1999)
Authors: Gary Garrels, Richard S. Field, and Joachim Pissarro
Amazon base price: $24.95
Average review score:

One to miss
This book, like many museum publications, is a waste of tree pulp. None of the authors can write and the ideas are weak to boot. As a written work, this volume is an awful waste of time, but the new John's images are rather nice.

Johns and the Bridge Paintings
The first major departure in Johns's work in years, these "bridge" paintings are sensational. Having seen the actual paintings in San Francisco, I can attest to the general fidelity of the printed images, although the scale of the finished pieces is so vast in comparison with the book that they loose a bit in the translation of the surface textures. Richard S. Field has written a well-reasoned explanation of some of the imagery, and Joachim Pissarro takes the interesting tack of tying the paintings references to some of Hart Crane's poetry ("The Bridge"). The work Johns has done is always extraordinary, and in some cases transcendant. It will be fascinating to see how these catenary images are absorbed into his work ahead. I recommend the book highly.

Still just a piece of the picture
This book has been informative in that I have learned a great deal about the political and militaristic problems Washington endured during America's push for independence. I have a feeling that, without Washington's sacrifice, America as we know it probably wouldn't occur. However, I also think of the famous quote attributed to Napoleon that "History is the myth men choose to believe." While Thomas Paine wrote about independence for the colonies, he also tore into the concept of slavery as immoral, so it wasn't as if no one was talking about this issue. If Washington would have "stepped up" and abolished slavery then and there, so that all men (and women) were truly created equal, as I said before, America might not be here. It was a politically divided and bankrupt country. I don't consider those reasons justification for sacrificing another person's human rights. The racial problems we face today stem from a lack of identity stolen from a stolen people

who did much of the work to build this country in its early days and, while the opprtunity was there, given nothing in return. "Patriot Sage" is an excellent insight into many aspects of Washington's life of which I was ignorant (like his influence on the Constitutional Convention) Sadly, some of its essays are too right-wing, to the point of Clinton bashing. What modern era president could really live up to the accomplishments of the one who defined the job's parameters ? One essay focuses on the moral symbolism of Washington now devoid in today's presidents, while another openly admits he gambled and sought prostitutes. To be read overall with some perspective.

In Search of the Republic

Amazon base price: $29.95

Confusing and disjointed
This book, while wrestling with and important topic and one of personal interest, fails to live up the billing given to it by the on line review. The theis is muddled and confusing. There seems to be a lack of organization. The author would do well to rework this piece and make it more along the lines of his previous work.

Not that Great!!
The other reviewer is obviously kissing up to the author and has not really read the book in depth. Poorly written and underdeveloped!!

Virtue as the key ingredient in an American democracy.
This is an in depth view of the principles upon which the Founding Fathers based the government of the United States. The author outlines the type of people and culture that allowed this type of democracy to come about. Accordingly, the reader is left with a better understanding of the problems inherent in American government today. There are organizational problems with this book. Key points are repeated often, leaving the reader to wonder, "didn't I just read that?" If the reader can look past these shortcomings, a better understanding of the American government's strengths and weaknesses can be found.

uninspirational celebration
scymanski has an ok story here. price has a good one about the gorgon. that one was very enjoyable, and had some lovely details. otherwise, this was dreary read. so many of these stories were not only badly invented, but seemed so uninspired to. i almost felt sorry for the writers, for making so bad stories. i think this is chaosium's worst.
