Symbolism and Universal applications of Antony & Cleopatra
Anthony and cleopatra has a universal theme, because of the concepts of life which deals with true love ,and the quest for power..It is a universal theme because of the tragedy of the two lovers who ends up dead , by not compromising their true love, and it also show that no matter how high a person is , whether she is a queen or an emperor , their lives are still the same as ours. the parallell of their stories would be the same like any regular person, because of the sadness of an unfullileed dream , full of deception. It also deals with the woman 's beauty , and how she uses it to get what she really want to have, and her ability to use her intelligence to get what she wants , by her conniving method of luring Ceasar to her bed. Anthony is a weak guy, because he was in the trap, which, cleopatra has set for him..In the end , they all die, because of the deception of their lives , which are not true.

Very useful!
I had to write an essay on "Hamlet" in English class this year, and the Cliffsnotes helped me tremendously (considering that I hadn't even read the book, I wrote a pretty good essay with its help). Each scene is given a thorough explanation, and it has an index of themes and a tree of all the characters. Not only does it simplify the book, it also analyzes further and clears up any confusion about the plot. It helped me a lot, I recommend it highly!

i enjoyed this book
i love the way willian faulkner wrote this book,u get each characters own thoughts, and personal expierences of the adventure this family went through. In the begining of the book, i guess it was because theyre were so many diferent nerators, it was kind of confusing, and hard to get into. But as i progressed through the book i found myself not being able to put the book down in curiosity of what would lie before me in the folowing chapters. i dont read much but i enjoyed this book.

Caution
Be cautious ... this edited version is a research and study guide ... it is not the full text of the book!

Love, emptiness, dedication; three life-inspiring themes
Can it be said that there's no place like home in all instances? This group of post-war youth prove this enticing theory wrong. Home is where the comfort lies, not the heart.

Jake, Brett, Bill, Robert, and Mike form a group of friends traveling wherever their consience leads them. Growing restless when they keep themselves in one situation for too long, this mess of human regret lives for the moment. They travel to the week long Fiesta in Pamplona, where they find nights of drinking and days of somber realizations, uniquely tied hand in hand with bullfighting.

As is true with most Hemingway novels, a man and woman's relationship with one another is used as a mode of depicting his views on life. Lady Ashley (Brett, disguising herself with a title as she does with short hair and hats and various other men's traits) stars as the diva without a cause. She wanders the streets of Paris in search of a good night in bed, which is all the war has left her with. As was done to the rest of war-participating America, Brett was stripped of compassion, of desire for love, and was left with a hollow lust. This lust was never to be filled but was continually in search of completement. This is what drew Brett to Pamplona with Mike, her haughty, yet understandably grounded, fiance.

Perfectly depicting the result of Brett's search for completion, Robert Cohn follows Brett to the Fiesta and likewise follows her every move. He is a former lover whwhich cannot seem to tear himself from the idea that she was once his. By his continual snooty comments, and the fact that Brett could find pleasure in him and not Jack (sexually hindered by a war wound) every word that comes from his mouth is the subject of Jack's narrative scorn.

Easily understood is Jack's disattachment from the world which took away his "manliness," especially when this is that which would attract the one thing in life that he values, Brett. Jack's love for Brett is obbsessive and ultimatley dooming when he sacrifices his remaining link to disillusionment, bulllfighting, which is his last escape from the chaos trailing the war. In an effort to please Brett, he gives access to an able-bodied matador, the object of her lust. After losing the trust of a community held tight with respect by Jake, he is left with the same Brett, just a little more contented than she was five minutes ago.

In my careful opinion, Hemingway has reconstructs a world ignored by many, but remembered and endured to this day. In a time of confusion and distrust in the reality of human emotion, this group typifies the actions of self-indulgence and disparity which characterize this generation. Instead of merely a drunken party with some good fights, some bullfighting, and plenty of sex, the novel depicts with pity the lost generation and all their woes.

For all those opposing the seemingly endless stream of war literature, it's fair to say "Give it up, already!" With unforgetable stories like these, how can we complain about a generation willing to share their tales of dedication to one true thing, in a time of great confusion. Their sacrifices will live forever in us and our decisions. Respect this and you can understand any Hemingway novel that is thrown at you.

Perfect for Everyone
This is a wonderful edition of a great work. Hemingway's first novel, "The Sun Also Rises" is a beautiful, elegiac portrait of restless, unsatisfied expatriots wandering through Europe during the 1920s. In many respects, although the style and narrative differ, this is a companion piece to Fitzgerald's "Gatsby"--beneath the seemingly carefree exterior of Hemingway's characters, beneath the drinking and carousing and aimless wandering, the mood is melancholy and empty. What makes this particular edition so valuable--to the scholar as well as the average reader--is the shrewd, readable appendices. This includes criticism, a biographical vignette, and other useful supporting materials.

Lord of the Flies
I read this book for my English II class and I was not impressed by it at all. It is a very confusing book with boring plots. The author does not state the information clearly which leaves your stranded with confusing clues. I do not recommend this book to anyone.

This was a great book and a great religious allegory
I would recomend this book to any and everyone who likes William Golding and his unique style of writing books. We were reading this book in school and at first it wasn't to my liking but now it is one of my favorite books.

A exellent novel, that shows the struggle between good and e
I believe that lord of the flies is one of the best books i have read for a really long time. It described terrible traumas that happened on the ilsland between the boys and really made you think about the roles searching for a explanation. It helped me see that we all have to deal with being good or bad because there will always be the Ralphs, the simons, the Jacks, the piggys and the Rogers out there and we have to strive to be the right one and hang out with the right ones.

CBEST PREP
Dedication to the Oxford English Dictionary (aka: OED), Norman Lewis' Syntactics and Etymology, for example, as well as life-long devotion to Pythagorian Theory and Polynomials, provide undeniable essential foundations as a preparatory for the CBEST that not but one (1) or even ten (10) Study Guides can match... Lifetime devotion to diplomacy and communicative-logic skills remains foremost; not one study guide but the avid reading of many volumes of study guides that scholars recount and recommend to be critical foundations...

Sloppy work, full of errors
I really can't recommend this book, since there are so many errors in it. Test preparation guides should really be much more circumspect about printing errors.

Good, concise prep book -- with good sample tests
I used the Clifftestprep book by Jerry Bobrow to prepare for the CBEST, which I took on June 8, 2002. I found the book to be very concise. The book reviews the things you'll need to know to take the test -- reading comprehension, math, and essay. The book gives good tips on test-taking techniques. Also, there are numerous mini-tests, and four complete (4-hour) sample tests included. I actually spent four hours one Saturday afternoon taking one of the sample tests, and it was great preparation for the real thing. As for the comment left by the previous reviewer about there being some errors and typos, I think I did find one or two typos out of 400 or 500 solid pages of text and examples, but these few minor typos were not a big deal at all, and in no way detracted from the valuable knowlege the book provided. I say, check it out.

p.s. I get my results in two weeks. I hope I pass. I'm fairly confident that I did pass.
