If you like Greg Maddux you like this book
The reason I chose this book is because Greg Maddux is a good player and one of my favorite players. Greg Maddux has won Cy young awards and many others. He's played for the Chicogo Cubs and one of my favorite's the Atlana Braves. He has been playing baseball for 18 years. First he was a out feilder and then a pitcher in the Major League Baseball. He was an outfeilder in High school, too. I liked it when the author told me that Greg started playing baseball at the age of 20. I would recomend this book to people who like Greg Maddux . The book is a sport book that tells alot about how brave he was to start playing baseball at the age of 20. He thought positive not negatively. Being positive is also important when you make good friends, and do homework

Immpeccable scholarly material
Outler has a thorough knowledge of Wesley's life, teachings, and impact. He does more than present a summary of that, but he gives insight as well. One of the greatest is of Wesley's grasp of both Protestant and Catholic theologies, that creates something new (or old, i.e. in the 'primitive' church).

The excellent value, although this is not the among the less expensive books. A perfect photography (digital) reconstruction made this book/atlas as very valuable guide to clinical experience and practice. In combination with the newest informations and literature of the world (reference cited are just few months old before printing the book), provides a genuine scientific and in many instances confirmed current concepts in premalignant conditions of the female reproductive tract. All and all, the book evryone in obstetrics/gynecology should have in their own libreries.

"Shattered Glory" by John Albert Murphy
John A. Murphy's rendition of the Indian wars north of the Ohio, belies the tale of General St. Clair's men "throwing down their guns and running for their lives." This exciting historical work depicts not only the American side of the battles but brings the reader into the Indian nation to view their perspective. This author brings the reader right into the battlefields to feel the bayonet wound, the tomahawk's swift cleaving of a skull, and hear the screams of the men and women as they are scalped while still alive.

The reader finds himself becoming angry at the lack of training, food and clothing that faced these frontier soldiers who were sent to do battle hundreds of miles from home. While sharing the trials with these soldiers, the author shares excerpts of letters that they've written before and after the battles to bring the reader to a more personal level with them.

General St. Clair underwent bitter resentment from the family of his second-in-command for the remainder of his life. They sued him and left him to live in poverty and dispair. Our historians in the far past weren't too keen in their reports and too many papers were lost, burned or stolen, leaving our history poorly recorded. It is to men like Mr. Murphy, that we extend our gratitude for their relentless pursuit of the truth.

"Shattered Glory" is a must purchase.

Relativity made clear
This is the best introductory exposition of relativity theory ever written. As a book, it occupies that strange middle ground between fiction and non-fiction, much like the Magic Schoolbus books (where should the librarian put them?), but it is for a somewhat older age group. By somewhat older, I mean only that it has fewer pictures: I'd put it in with all the Milton Bradley/Parker Brothers games, and say it's for ages 8 to 80. For ANYONE who is interested in relativity, no matter what their age, this book is a perfect place to start. Check your library, and if you can't find it try to place an "out of print" order. This book is a gem.

Superb! Should be Required Reading
Everyone who has something to do with children should read this book: Educators, parents, counselors and employers.

This is not a book about solutions- This is a book about recognizing the problem. As we know, recognizing the problem is the first step to correcting the situation.

This is a series of essays and speaches the author has written about education in the United States. Mr. Gatto is an award winning teacher who has taken the brave step of stating what he sees wrong with education. As only someone who has worked in the system for so long can really see the problems, he not only sees the problems, he shares them with the rest of the nation.

As a teacher who has quit to stay at home with my children, I agree whole heartedly with Mr. Gatto. As a teacher who has vowed to home school, I agree with Mr. Gatto.

Education does what it was set up to do- to teach the masses, to tame the unruly individual thinkers, and more. Mr. Gatto's seven lessons that school teaches is exactly on target. Unfortunately.
How do we change the education system? It will take a shift of thinking across the nation. This book is just a small drop in the tidal wave of events that needs to happen. Each person reading this book and acting on it only adds to the rising wave of education reform.

Truly a well thought out book written by a brave man who was willing to put his job and living on the line for what he believes.

Thank You John Gatto!
Reading "Dumbing us Down" was the final step in withdrawling our children from Public School. John Gatto writes what alot of parents think but are afraid to voice for fear that they will be kicked out of the PTA click. His book is straight to the point and once you read it you will have that knot in your stomach feeling about sending your child off to public school everyday until YOU make a change. We shared this book with many people including a public school teacher who agreed with everything John Gatto wrote. This is not just for people who want to make the step to Homeschooling. We searched for 9 months and found a great private school that encourages individuality and choices and flexibility. AND YOU CAN USE THE RESTROOM WHEN YOU NEED TO, NOT JUST DURING 'GROUP PEE TIME' !

Not really radical; a must-read!
Mr. Gatto's authoritative rant will serve to further destabilize the already shaky public education system -- no loss, as it should be obvious to any but the most simple-minded. As one of two dedicated parents of an almost-four-year-old, we had been disgusted with the "choices" the state deigns to present to us in education: bad and worse. These are, of course, not choices at all. Mr. Gatto explains briefly how far education and learning have fallen in the US, and how the "education" system serves only to propagate and serve itself, not the children who are its nominal clients.
If you doubt that the US state school system is de facto totalitarian, just try to homeschool without jumping through hoops, pleading for exemptions, and submitting to standardized testing. See how long you go until you get "the knock".
Any current or soon-to-be school-age parent must read this book to assist them in their decision to send their kid to or keep their kid in the 12-year prison of progressive factory schooling. Those who are the product of the system, as I am, will read, grieve, get angry and get primed to take action. It is a disillusioning book, in the sense of having the wool pulled off one's eyes at last.
