Chow has done an excellent job of collecting articles from the leading researchers in the pharmaceutical and biologics industry including FDA employees. The terms are specialized but important to those industries. The articles are scholarly and informative. The quality is similar to those in the Encyclopedia of Statistical Science. Most of the terms are also of interest to statisticians like myself who work in the medical device industry. A sample of the items are "Adjustment for Covariates", "Bayesian Statistics", "Boassay", "Clinical Trials", "Equivalence Trials", "Food and Drug Administration", "Intention-to-Treat Analyses", "International Conference on Harmonization", "Multiple Comparisons", "Postmarketing Surveillance", "Sample Size Determination", and "Surrogate Endpoint".

This is a particularly good reference for statisticians who work on clinical trials regulated by the FDA. However keep in mind that it is very specialized and is rather expensive.

The jewel of this book is the originality. Possibly the first modern literature on Tao Zhu-gong, it is a comprehensive philosophy piece. A must-read-and-own reference book for intellectuals engaging in strategic thinking. The Western-educated author is an accomplished scholar with the uncommon knowledge on Chinese strategic art.

This text is a must for any working engineer or analyst who deals in steady state or unsteady state fluids flow analysis. There are many texts in the field that can be very complete yet tedious for use. The physics are presented in a straightforward manner with smooth transitions to computational methods that easily translate out of the Fortran the text uses (I convert all mine into Mathcad).

As a ballistician I refer to this text often, the set-ups are simple to put into the full range of question asked of those in the art. My copy is threadbare and well worn but still first or second off the shelf when a new question of motion comes up - the early example of a ball falling through a real fluid translated directly into my analysis of the internal fluid flows within a hybrid gas generator.

I became a Mac convert in 1986 while editing a magazine (Living Among Nature Daringly) but overseas work forced me to switch to a Windows-driven PC 18 months ago. At that time I was using Mac OS 9.

Thus, I had to learn more complicated procedures for getting my prime writing and editing done.

During that 18 months I went bonkers with almost daily freeze-ups and system crashes. Finally, exasperated, I surrendered and bought a Mac iBook in Cairo, Egypt, even though almost no individual in this country uses one.

This iBook is running on Jaguar. In other words, it runs on system 9 (of which I am well-experienced), and system X in which I have not a clue! The training in iLife programs, especially iTunes, iPhoto and iCalendar has given a deep appreciation for Apple - the corporation that knows how to provide a real system and computer for people who want to get a mission accomplished instead of impressing folks with how computer literate they are. In other words, engineers will use Windows, managers, writers and editors will use Mac.

This book is a quick read despite its 800-plus pages. The included lessons and examples on the accompanying CD are extremely helpful, especially for my wife, Dina, who has never used a MAC!

Allow me to use a metaphor. God made man in His image. Eventually, man made computers in his image - that is the MAC.

Mac is a Godsend. Mac OS X Hands-On Training is my first choice for learning to use a computer that acts like a human.

This is an excellent and comprehensive book on bifurcation theory for a graduate-level course on this subject. It is also a very useful resource for research on nonlinear bifurcations. I strongly recommend this book.
