I'm buying a second copy!
A wonderful, practical collection of very useful tips that I wish I could have referred to when my wife and I were raising children.

A Compilation of Great Advice for ALL Parents.
Being an avid Parents magazine subscriber, I turn through their pages every month searching for advice from parents across the country. It's almost like sitting in a room, sharing your best ideas with hundreds of other parents. Although Parents magazine features this every month, it's amazing that they've created an entire BOOK about this useful information. At least one in five of these tips could work for you. Creativity from around the nation combines into these pages to provide you with unforgettable hints and tips to make parenting a LITTLE easier and more fun for the kids. I've learned a lot in the past two years from just other parents' advice and strategies. It also helps you stimulate alternative ways of disciplining your children. I recommend this book to all parents willing to learn a little more about themselves and their children. Instead of arguing and cleaning up, you'll spend more quality time with the little people you love.

grouping poems to explain more about poetry
Kennedy informs students about the purposes for poetry by the categories he's formed. The selections are appropriate for elementary school children and is an instructive collection for serious poetry reading for kids 7-13.

Kennedy's collection is accessible, informative and a pleasure to read and mull over.

Great Collection!
As a teacher- I found this book to an incredible assest to have in the clasroom. This is a very exemplary eclectic collection. It contains a wide variety of poem forms, styles, and authors. Usefully organized into category chapters, it easy to find a poem relating to a topic. The book is organized into useful sections that have equally as useful subcategories. These divisions make it easy to use these poems during a unit on poetry. The wide variety of types of poems in the book also is useful to assimilate these poems into the curriculum, either as a transitional piece or within a topic discussion. The students LOVE hearing these poems!

Book 16 -- Enter Welsper (Velsper)
This graphic novel of the popular "Oh My Goddess" series covers original manga volumes volume 16 chapter 94 through volume 17 chapter 101. This is an 8-part story covering the "Welsper" arc (or as Dark Horse calls him, Velsper).

The first part has the 4th goddess Peorth losing an aerial with an unknown attacker and attempting to warn Belldandy. Urd and Skuld are recalled to the heavens to deal with a problem while a young boy who knows Belldandy visits her and Keiichi. The second part has the boy come by Bell's and Keiichi's shop, then charm their boss Chihiro. The third part has the boy coming to stay at the Morisato residence. Belldandy begins to have bizarre dreams and time seems to be going awry.

The forth part has Skuld and Urd fighting a corruption in the Yggdrasil system. Belldandy and the boy have a strange connection and the boy reveals his true nature. The fifth part has the return of Peorth as she defends Keiichi from attack. The boy reveals his plan and reason for being on Earth. The sixth part has Skuld, Urd, and their helpers in the heavens losing their battle against time stoppage while Peorth, Belldandy, and Keiichi make a choice.

The seventh part has Belldandy reverting to childhood while the boy's plans begin to go astray. The final part has Belldandy remember the boy's name which was what he wanted all along. However, he must now pay the price for tampering with the Yggdrasil system.

Bottom line: The standard great artwork from Fujishima-san is here. Having Peorth return is a great addition even if her role is limited. There's not as much humor in this issue, but we do learn a lot more about the heavens and get to see Demon Central for the first time. There is one complaint which I've never made before. Since Dark Horse converts these comics from their original Japanese form (which is a right-to-left format), nearly everything you see is the reverse image of the original. However, there are times when DH cannot do this; so there are blaring instances where a characters hair will be parted one way in one frame and another way in the next frame. It can be a jarring distraction, but I have not allowed that to stop my purchases. I am asking Dark Horse to do future OMG graphic novels in the Japanese style to avoid this problem.

First the Norns, then Peorth, and now...
Belldandy was the first to come on the scene when Keiichi made his misguided wish. Urd followed soon after, and because of her sabotage of Yggdrasil, she has stayed. Skuld came to take Belldandy home, and has moved in, although I'm sure Keiichi would wish otherwise if he could. Peorth arrived much the same way as Belldandy, but left when the contract was fulfulled. Now, here comes a little boy who treats Keiichi like a kid and Belldandy like his long-lost lover. Belldandy senses something about the boy, but can't put a finger on it. And they are running out of time--all of them.

Who is this boy, and why is he here? Is he going to take Belldandy away from Keiichi?

You'll have to read the book now, won't you?

Rosie O'Donnell: America's Favorite Grownup Child

Allergic to Roses
While not as ambitious as her work in "Toothpaste: From Start to Finish" this book is written in a way that could inspire kids to read. In fact, this may be a great book for some but, the fact that I cannot stomach three continous seconds of anything that has to do with Rosie O'donnell pretty much makes this a no-go for me. I may not like this book, but that doesn't mean your or your child will not. I think book is as good or better than the following titles that you may or may not have read... "Home Surgery:Do-it-Yourself Savings on Costly Operations at Home" "Kids Are Punny : Jokes About Rosie Sent by Kids to the Rosie O'Donnell Show" "The Great Polish Philosophers" "Idiots Guide: Internet Chain Letters" "Idiots Guide: to Dummy Books"

You go Rosie!
Wow!! Rosie is a dynamo and I never knew it! This book is well-written and so interesting that you don't want to put it down. I really enjoyed learning about the fascinating life Rosie has had and her wonderful contributions to society.

Best book on teenage pregnancy
What a subtle, beautiful, thought-provoking book. Indispensible for understanding how teenage pregnancy shapes the lives of young people. Offers a poignant view of a variety of American teens facing parenthood, of different classes, different races, different religions and regions. Would be particularly valuable for high-school researchers, or as a complement to drier, more statistical or policy-oriented analyses.

Fantastic photographs which capture your heart and mind
The photographs are fantastic and will capture your heart and mind. The pictures communicate in a way words never could. You will feel like you know and understand these young mothers.

Exploring, Discovering and Learning With Children
There are several nice things about this book. The activities are fun and use regular household items that most people have on hand. The items needed for each activity are listed in a section called "Just take...". The authors share personal experiences from their own childrearing and quotations which apply to child development. There is a space on each page to write personal reflections, ideas, or comments about how the activity went when you tried it. The authors comment that they are not famous or well-respected scholars. Actually, they have made a real contribution by taking the time to gather these ideas and put them into a fun-to-use format. Fun for children of ALL ages.

Becoming Tongan: An Ethnography of Childhood.
Thank you, Helen Morton! This is an understandable description of the Tongan culture from pre-missionary times to the current trends! Helen Mortan is in a unique position to introduce the Tongan culture to the Western Mindset. She is Australian and was married to a Tongan Man, and has his child. She presents her facts in a scholarly manner. I found this book to be much more than an ethnography of Childhood. It made the very different "Tongan Way" completely comprehensible to me.
