I have the English version, but I love this book! The story line is cute, and the artistry is spectacular!! It makes you feel that even though you may be small as a child, you can be as big as a monster!!

I was afraid the text would be too long or the pictures too scary for my 4 month old to enjoy this, but I was wrong. She thinks it's great, and we love looking at the monsters together.

I bought this book because, although I'm not completely fluent in Spanish (yet!), I wanted to expose my son to different languages. I love Where the Wild Things Are, so this seemed an obvious choice for us. The story is wonderful and imaginative. The illustrations are some of the best in children's literature. Some of the pages in the book have no narration. Only pictures. So it appeals to younger book enthusiasts who aren't quite old enough to read. One of the best additions to your home library you'll ever find!

I bought this book and I loved it! It is easy to read and understand the business in fashion world. Lots of useful advise from the famous people for those who wants to go into the real world of fashion business.

I've wanted to pursue my love of apparel design, but have held back because it felt like too "foofy" of a career choice. I was pleasantly surprised, reading this book, to find out what a practical business this is. Artistic ability and design talent are really a small part of what those in the fashion business need to survive; most of the rest is an understanding of marketing, merchandising, global economy, quality control...in other words, business skills. I wish I had known this as I was graduating from high school--I could already be employed by now! I am using the information in this book to evaluate design programs, and feel confident that I can now go into this field with my eyes open. Fashion and apparel aren't as glamorous and superficial as they might seem: there's a lot of hard work and business savvy that makes up the bulk of the field.

I'm using this book in a course right now, and for the first time I understand how the fashion business runs! This book has been a wonderful source of first-hand information, I love it.

My daughter loves all the "Really Rosie" books. She was introduced to the Really Rosie CD performed by Carole King (also available on Amazon!) on her 1st Birthday and now, a year later, she knows all the songs. As far as the books go, we own: One Was Johnny, Alligators All Around, & Chicken Soup w/Rice. These books are well written with clever art work by Maurice Sendak. Plus, they are really cheap!! Highly recommended :)

Wow! This is the best alphabet book ever! With words such as "N Never Napping, O Ordering Oatmeal, P Pushing People", along with adorable pictures of the goofy alligator pulling these stunts, this book is the love of many young children. Any child who misses out on this book is missing out on a treasure!

The 5-K Classes where I was student teaching this year used this book set to music in their end-of-the-year program!! The hand motions and the "lyrics" were ADORABLE!!! When I saw it at the library, I just knew my son had to have a copy of his very own.

I have read other accounts of the Mixica, most notably by Michael D. Coe, but none of them hit upon the complexity involving the meeting of Cortes and Montecuzoma as this book did. Drawing on dialog from Bernal Diaz (The Discovery and Conquest of Mexico-also another great read), Collis has stripped away the dryness of other books, on this subject, that were written primarily for academia, leaving the intimate human perspective to the greatness of both of these men and the circumstances that caused each to react as he did. As did Diaz's book, this book made me feel as though I were sitting beside Cortes and Montecuzoma as the drama of their meeting unfolded. For those who are students, as a vocation or avocation, of the ancient cultures that inhabited this continent this is a must book to read and have on hand to reread over and again because you won't want it to end.

The incredible chain of events that led to the conquest of Mexico by a small group of Spaniards is wonderfull told by Maurice Collis in this fascinating book. Well organised and stylishly written, the book includes many quotations from contemporary sources, as well as some very vivid descriptions of the places and persons involved. Collis's understanding of the events and his clear and involving style make Cortes and Montezuma an extraordinary piece of historical writing.

The complex characters and motivations of both central figures are explained in detail. According to Collis, Montezuma was a generous, devout and able ruler, but at the same time he was a tyrannical monster who indulged in endless orgies of ritual murder; Cortes was a civilized and enterprising explorer who brought enlightenment to a oppressed land but he was also the bringer of death and destruction to a complex and fascinating civilization. The author also explains the amazing astrological-magical religion of the Mexicans and how it made the conquest possible.

This is probably the best book on the subjet, a veritable page turner that will help you understand one of the most incredible events in history.

The story of the conquest of the remarkable Aztec civilization by Cortes' handful of Spaniards is an incredible drama. The accounts of Bernal Diaz and Prescott tell it well, but at considerable length, and with only a superficial comprehension of what motivated the Mexicans' responses to Cortes' invasion. What makes Corliss's succinct and compelling account so insightful and remarkable, to me, is his sympathetic understanding of the Mexicans' and Montezuma's complex astrological-magical religion, and how it decisively shaped their actions. He understands a pre-modern time when religious beliefs were the predominant context for social and individual actions, as well as the importance of Cortes' religious faith, and he notes the fascinating paradoxes and ironies that resulted from the primary actors' actions based on their respective religious convictions.

But regardless of that, this is simply a wonderful read. My one regret is that the book wasn't accompanied by illustrations to convey the extraordinary richness (and horror) of the Aztec civilization, as well as the difficult and stunning terrain where the action took place.

As a footnote, it is fascinating to contrast the ethos of the Conquistadores with that of the North American settlers so well described in Albion's Seed.

I can't praise this book enough! I first read it as a class book when I was eleven and was totally drawn in by the vivid imagery and the wonderful story of good over evil. I read it again when I was fourteen and was equally enthralled. At seventeen I read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings and don't know how I ever lived without them before, and I would put The Halfmen of O up there with Tolkien (seriously!). Now at twenty-eight I still get visions from the book (the Halfmen) coming to me from time to time - quite regularly in fact, so much so I'm in dire need of reading it again. I couldn't remember the authors name and I was pretty sure it was set in New Zealand. Knowing that it is set in NZ makes it feel more 'local' to me and makes me wanna cheer for the the fab Aussie and Kiwi talent. I'm going to send a copy to some young friends who are fans of Tolkien and Harry Potter, I know they will love it.

I first read this book when I was eight years old and was required to read it at school aged twelve. I love it and have read it many more times since. I am currently getting the books to read to three of the children I look after, promising them a story equal to the Harry Potter Stories. I am a Kiwi living in the States and am glad to see such a favourite is being read here if only more people would do so. Battling classic elements of good and evil there are important messages in these books as well as being enjoyable to read and have read to. The opening gives a glimpse into the New Zealand landscape but from then on is fanatsy, a book to be enjoyed by all nations and ages.

I first read the story when I was only ten years old, it's as heart warming now as it was then. A Fantasy adventure set in a parallel world, similar to the Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. Beginning in New Zealand, it is a story about Susan Ferris, chosen at birth by the guardian of O she is the worlds last hope. She is kidnapped and taken to O, but with the help of friendly natives is rescued and begins her task to unite the Halves, the good and evil inside the inhabitants of O and bring order to the chaotic realm. 'The Wizard of Oz' with a New Zealand charm 'The Half Men of O' is a wonderful story for children and adults alike, you will be taken in by the poetic beauty Maurice Gee adds to this wonderful story and hopefully you will love this story as much as I have. Prequel to 'The Priests of Ferris' and 'Motherstone'.

This is an extraordinary book, described by the well-know author E.M. Forster as "here is the egg of a seabird - lovely, perfect and laid this very morning".

The author, Muiris Ó Súilleabháin, is an Irish-speaking boy growing up on the Great Blasket Island (An Blascaod Mór). He describes his childhood in the twenties on this 100% Irish-speaking island in Co. Kerry. The population of the island never reached 200, and life there was very archaic - resembling the society in Europe thousands of years ago. Nowhere else in Europe did the shear joy of speaking and love of words live on as here, where thousands of pages of folklore has been collected as well. This love of the language is obvious in this vivid book, in which Muiris presents an affectionate, lively and interesting account of a way of life that no longer is.

Despite being published 70 years ago, the book still feels fresh and manages to blend fond memories and humour in an extraordinary way. This is definitely THE book to buy for anyone interested in the Irish way of life.

Twenty Years A-Growing by Maurice O'Sullivan is one heck of a "coming of age" story. I'd never even heard of it until a friend of mine told me that he was reading it. I'm sure glad he did. This is a great book!

I've actually read several coming of age stories recently. I didn't plan to...it just kind of occurred that way. Some of them were really good (David Copperfield by Dickens being one of them); but none of them, Copperfield included, spoke to my heart like Twenty Years A-Growing.

Twenty Years A-Growing was translated into English from Gaelic. I personally find this astounding. They (whoever "they" might be) say a book always loses something in translation. Yet Twenty Years absolutely sings in English...the translation is so powerful that the original must truly be a thing of beauty.

It is an autobiographical tale of growing up in the Blasket Islands off the coast of Ireland around the time of the first world war. For me at least, it was a thing of wonder to be able to enter into this world which has since moved on. It is a story told in a wonderfully simple yet almost lyrically beautiful way. Each chapter is a story in itself. The story as a whole slowly ingrains itself upon your heart and mind.

I felt an affinity with Maurice and his friend Thomas. The adventures they find themselves in ring true even as they entertain the reader. Likewise, the character of the grandfather in particular now feels like an old friend to me now. I particularly appreciated some of the wisdom he espouses to Maurice.

I dare anyone to read this book and not be charmed by the lives of these wonderful people who lived almost a hundred years ago in a kind of societal setting that seems all at once foreign, yet somehow more sane than today's world of constant "time management" in pursuit of hollow "muchness" and "manyness."

It does not happen often that I do not to want a book to end. I usually approach the end of a book with satisfaction. Rarely am I left wanting more. Yet that was the case with Twenty Years A-Growing. It is a truly special book.

Twenty Years A-Growing, or Fiche Bliain ag Fás in its original Irish, is a humorous and well written book about the sometimes hard life at the great western island, An Blascaod Mór, off the cost of Ireland. It tells about the everyday of the islanders in the beginning of the century in a surprisingly modern and lively way. The language of the Island was Irish, and although the Great Blasket is now abandoned, the Irish language still lives on in the mainland parishes in this area. I strongly recommend this book to everyone interested in Ireland, its culture, the Irish language or readerswho just want a fun and good book. I myself have only read the whole of it in its Irish original, but the passes I've read in English shows a well-done translation

In fact, I feel extremely confident taking my national OB/GYN exam after studying and learning this book. EVERYTHING you need to know is broken down in an easy to read, organized, precise manner containing the most relevant needed information on a topic. Residents and attendings have been amazed at my depth of knowledge since I've read this book. What more could you ask for...

This book is a must have for any clinician working with Obstetrics and Gynocology. This pocket sized reference covers critical topics and provides immediate answers to questions of issues that arise for anyone working with female patients. The book has easy to read algorithms and charts, information on all aspects of Gyn practice, including uro-gynocology and oncologic staging.

This book continues to be a must have for everybody interested in or practicing Ob/Gyn. It is certainly the most convenient pocket reference anyone can expect to have.

This revision is definitely worth the investment, with updated information in all the disciplines within the field. New additions include the B-Lynch suture, expanded cancer staging and treatment algorhythms as well as expanded information on HRT. I highly reccomend picking up the 5th edition to add to your pocket!!

Among relationship self-help books, this is one of the better titles of the moment. Taylor and McGee write in a breezy style and sow their text with a large number of example couples, which make their story readable if uninspired. Their forte, however, is the comprehensiveness of their list of rules and the reassuring common sense they must have used in developing them. While none of the rules are new and different individually, listing them in this comprehensive fashion is useful, and makes this book stand out as one of the better examples of the genre.

I was having problems with my husband and this book saved our marriage. The rules they present are so simple and clear. They make sense for today's relationships. I recommend this book for every single person and couple. Priceless!!!

Such a smart book! Marriage counselors married to each other, Maurice and Seanna are two unique people who have managed to craft a solid, lively relationship for themselves without giving up their individuality. In The New Couple they pass on their experience, strength, and hope to their clients and readers in an interesting and entertaining way. The material is beautifully organized into ten "new laws of love" that make wonderful sense. The book is intellectually compelling and emotionally sensitive...almost too much to ask of any book. (I could not get through the Mars/Venus stuff.)

I found The New Couple so upbeat and full of good advice that I attended a workshop presented by the authors. I left their presence feeling that a relationship is possible, and I've started dating again after ten years of terror at the prospect of repeating my past mistakes. This is nothing short of magic! Read this book, you won't regret it.

My father had just died and I was given this book by his synagogue. As I spent the week sitting shivah with my family I read through it. It was comforting, informative and very very helpful. I think it would be helpful not only to Jewish mourners but to anyone who has lost a loved one.

I turned to this book when my father died. I found it to be a comprehensive and indispensable guide. I still take it with me whenever I visit the cemetary so that I can use its text for graveside prayers.

This book provided all the answers I needed.

It was factual, clearly-written, easily-referenced, religiously-balanced, logical and, overall, very useful.

In a recent trip to Italy, I found the Lonely Planet Italian Phrasebook to be helpful while buying train tickets and making basic transactions. The book stayed in my pocket as insurance against any situation that I may run into where the other party did not speak any English. (The book is a very good size for living in a pocket). I did find, however, in the heavy tourist areas of Italy, many people speak a little bit of English. So, I did not use the phrasebook as much as I had expected.

As a suggestion, take a small dictionary along with the phrasebook. The dictionary in the back of the book is incomplete. You will need a dictionary to translate signs and labels.

I suggest purchasing the phrasebook, but buy a small dictionary also. WIth the combination, you should have a pleasant trip in Italy.

After travelling to Italy several times in the last few years for both work and pleasure, I have found this to be by far the best phrasebook available. The grammar is correct, there is instruction on improving your Italian capabilities and useful side information on everything from menus to dating. Not a substitute for practice and study, of course, but certainly the best available phrase book for Italian (believe me, I've tried at least 4 others!)

I highly recommend this little book for anyone wanting to function quickly in Italian. We just got back from a trip to Italy and I found the little book a great help. My only regret is that I did not begin working with it a couple months before taking off. If you don't have time to do a full fledged course in Italian, this little book will get you operational in no time at all. And the Italians love it when they see you making an effort!
