Beautiful facsimile
Alice's Adventures were stories created on the spot and told by Charles Dodgson to his young female friends, including most particularly little Alice Liddell. After begging from Alice that these stories be written in a book, Charles Dodgson wrote a draft, and from this carefully handwrote and illustrated "Alice's Adventures Under Ground", which he gave to Alice Liddell. Later, Charles used his draft to rewrite the stories in a much expanded version which was published by Macmillan as "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland", and then went on to write "Through the Looking-Glass". "Alice's Adventures Under Ground" is a facsimile edition of the handwritten and hand illustrated manuscript, which now resides in the British Museum. There have been previous facsimile editions published, such as from Macmillan and Dover, but in black and white only. This color facsimile is extremely well done: the quality of the thick yellow paper is excellent, as is the brown printing. These, along with the color reproduction of the cover and attribution pages, combine to provide a great looking book that feels so wonderful to handle. And of course the story itself is marvelously enjoyable, and many of the same episodes which became Alice's Adventures in Wonderland can be seen in this precursor to that work.

FROM THE GARDENS WHERE WE FEEL SECURE
Virginia Astley.Cult singer songwriter from the early 80s whose family lived in Moulsford Oxfordshire. The village close to Alice Country which inspired her first album, the perfect soundtrack to Alice in Wonderland. An instrumental album with added SFX such as birdsong and church bells. Titles like A Summer Long Since Past and Summer Of Their Dreams.
Virginia Astley is,in fact,a reincarnation of Alice and not just because that's her middle name.
Her late father was born in Warrington and moved to Grappenhall in the late 40s which is the next village to Daresbury.
Since that first album Virginia was to become known as a singer and many of her songs have uncanny similarities with Wonderland and even the real life Alice. In "Tree Top Club" comes the line "I bought you sweets and comics from the grocery shop" which is paralleled in the early life of Alice Liddell.
So many others:I Live In Dreams,Nothing Is What It Seems,Over The Edge Of The World.
And another parallel in the fact that Virginia Astley was morally sound, and a reminder that "Alice was the most sensible person in a land of freaks" against a description of Virginia Astley as "unaffected by operating in a business not known for many normal people".
Virginia long ago found her own turf and stayed in it
So this is another Alternate Alice

If you could give 6 stars, this book would have it!
This book is my all time favorite book! In the beginning it's a little hard to follow, but keep reading and you're hooked! I love how the childern are the stars of the book. The way Bruno talks is soo cute! This book touches on very natural things, but it presents them in a wonderfully different view. It has a feel to it that no other book has. The plot is there, but it's very vague so that the book is very relaxed and open-minded. If you like Sylvie and Bruno, Sylvie and Bruno Concluded is a must! My favorite part of the book is how wonderfully it concludes and leaves you perfectly content, yet a little bit of wonder still lingers. From all angles, this book is one of a kind!

Interesting new insights into Lewis Carroll
Lewis Carroll has always been a mystery man. Raphael Shaberman has brought Sherlock Holmes onto the case and looks at aspects of Lewis Carroll which have not really been examined before. I don't agree with everything he says, but if the mysterious element of Carroll appeals to you, then this book will undoubtedly intrigue and interest you.

In muted, sepia tones sparked with lime green
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! From offbeat illustrator Joel Stewart comes this utterly charming picture book adaptation of the celebrated nonsense rhyme "Jabberwocky" from Lewis Carroll's classic children's novel "Through the Looking Glass." In muted, sepia tones sparked with lime green, lemon yellow and apple red, Stewart paints the mysterious Jabberwocky as a creature part English dandy, part Beetlejuice and part hedge. "And, as in uffish thought he stood, the Jabberwock, with eyes of flame'" and -- according to Stewart's whimsical drawings -- teeth of checker boards, guts of a robot, and elongated claws of regular manicure appointments. A supporting cast of characters appear and disappear without explanation (though, of course, none is needed) as do the odd cameo appearances of different postage stamps on every spread. None of this lovely nonsense should be surprising, as we've seen Stewart's quirky style before, in the picture book "The Adventures of a Nose," the strange story of a nose's quest for belonging. What is surprising, however, is that there is currently only one competing "Jabberwocky" book on the market: the intricate 1989 interpretation by Graeme Base, the author/illustrator of the bestselling "Animalia." 'Tis a brillig effort, to say the least. The most vorpal picture book effort in mome raths.

"'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves..."
"Jabberwocky and Other Poems," by Lewis Carroll, is an inspired collection by this remarkable writer. A brief note at the beginning of the book discusses the life and career of Carroll (1832-98), who was a mathematician as well as a poet. The selections in this book are taken from "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," "Through the Looking Glass," and other sources.

This collection shows Carroll's quirky, mischievous playfulness as well as his technical prowess with rhyme, meter, and wordplay. He is consistently inventive and often satirical. The book is very funny, often quite absurd, and has an occasional dark, sinister edge.

Just a few of the highlights are as follows. "The Mouse's Tale": a visual poem shaped like a mouse's tale. "Brother and Sister": a hilarious tribute to sibling rivalry that uses an interesting rhyme scheme. "The Walrus and the Carpenter": a sort of narrative horror-comedy with rich touches of absurdism. "Poeta Fit, non Nascitur": a hilarious satire on the art of writing poetry. And of course, the brilliant title poem, with its memorable opening: "'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves / Did gyre and gimble in the wabe."

Superb scholarship
LANGUAGE AND LEWIS CARROLL by Robert D. Sutherland, Ph.D. is likely one of the most definitive scholarly works on Carroll to date. Sutherland deftly explores the fascinating linguistic structures, puzzles, and games that pepper Carroll's literary work. For any teacher, student, or reader interested in both a serious treatment of Lewis Carroll's work and a splendid model of what literary scholarship should look like, LANGUAGE AND LEWIS CARROLL is a must-read.

Lewis Dodgson
For any kind of reserch paper on Lewis Carroll, this a good book to look through. This book is like Anotated Alice, yet different. It includes some annotations, but is still mostly about his life. How many people knew that the Lewis Carroll based his books on a real Alice? Going even further, how many people know that he used a different Alice in the sequel? You can find all this and more in the book. For example, some people may not know that Charles Dodgson had O.C.D. And his best friends were little girls? The things that are in that book are amazing, and very helpful. Cheers!!!!!!!! : )

The Nabokov Russian Translation of Lewis Carroll's Alice in
This is a great reading for anyone who loves Russian classics. It combines the unique Nabokov's style with the wonderful plot of Lewis Carroll's masterpiece. Don't expect to see the exact translation of Carroll's book, rather consider it as a "variation on the theme" of "Alice in Wonderland". Take a book, a cup of tea, spend the time with favourite and funny Carroll's heros in the magic country of Carroll-Nabokov.

The Time has Come....Finally!
I've been waiting for this very book for quite some time now. Carroll's photography has never been collected in a full form like many other photographers. Previous books have been light on material and all too heavy on the photographs of young child-friends. This book gives a more even account of Carroll's photography---even going so far as presenting the photographs as he did so in his own albums. Rather than classify his photographs, his albums show a wondrous variety of images---a skeleton of a fish, a landscape, a child-friend, a famous painter, a sculpture, etc.... Though it concentrates on Carroll's one hobby, Roger Taylor's essay is as good as any biography, being a hundred or so pages long. Edward Wakeling contributes insightful captions to each photograph in the Princeton Collection---for all are included! What more could one ask for? Wakeling, one of the leading experts on Carroll with a database of information, even offers his list of all photographs taken by Carroll, a list that will be continually updated. He even gives his email address for those who may have lost photographs.
An indispensable book for the researcher and a delight for the casual photography fan.
