Good review about the basic,Great illustrations and pictures
This book makes a excellent review about the most important skills you need to know. The best part for me is the airway managent skills cause is easy to understand and have good pictures, also important is the part about the management of head trauma conforms to the brain trauma fundation. The problem is that it dont talk about pharmacology and cardiac management. This book have great ilustrations and images with full collor. Good idea If you live out of the USA or if this is your first experience buying Paramedic books by the net. AYAX SOBRINO SAAVEDRA

Very well done
"Basic Trauma Life Support" is a great look at trauma and advanced emergency care. The illustrations make the book easy to follow. Can really be valuable for anyone who may have to respond to a medical emergency. Good reading for firefighters/Paramedics/First Responders.

The chapters are laid out in an easy to read and understand format. The most common trauma cases are dealt with to the degree that the book's target audience would need to know. This is the 3rd edition and if the 4th is an improvement on this I look forward to reading it. My only issue with the book is some of the drawings are a little difficult to understand. The chapter bibliographies are thorough and helpful as well.

Review of NA XB-70 Photo Chronicle
Although the photographs are excellent and diverse, showing all aspects of the aircraft, some of the captioning and data is incorrect. Xb-70 Valkyrie: The Ride to Vahalla by Jeannette Remak is much more factually correct.

Good for Eye candy
The book was very short on information. It delves into the origins for the design but falls short of giving proper context to the photographs. With many photos of the crash of aircraft 2, it should also have included a few pages of history on the test program. The book fails if it intends to tell the story merely with pictures and curt captions. There are, however, some really impressive photographs and they, alone, are worth the cost. This is one fantastically beautiful aircraft. No wonder the Russians were worried.

Good plot, but not enough submarine action.
The main plot of the book is alright. It has much action and is a very original concept. The only problem I might have had with it is that a good portion of the book is devoted to land battle, more than is written about Submarine Warfare.

Set at a cracking pace, this book burns along.
John Campbell has has written an exciting tale full of action and suspense. An isolated American base in the Pacific finds itself invaded by a ruthless enemy. Campbell's heros have character and stubborness, and the way the bad guys finally get theirs in the end is brilliant. I recommend this book to break up any boring day.

A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT
This should have been a worthy tribute to SAC but its content has been badly let down by appalling standards of reproduction.

Schiffer books are not cheap and this one is no exception so it would be reasonable to hope that the highest standards of printing would prevail. Not so! There's hardly a pure black or white tone in the whole book - nothing but muddy greys. The colour shots (those that aren't faded overall to pink, that is) have tone reproduction that is harsh, contrasty and garish.

I've bought other Schiffer books and been happy with the print quality so this one came as a surprise and a big let-down. If you see this book on sale at half-price, save your money - it really doesn't deserve shelf space.

Crewdog
With only one other review I had to write and give my opinion. I had the opportunity to view this book at my local hobby shop. Because of the price I decided to look at Amazon - BUT - I found this book to be extremely interesting in its content. Being an old SAC crewdog, it brought back alot of great memories of a proud service and the people that made it work. Most of the photos were obviously taken by members of SAC while on duty. Not an easy task given the security measures we all had to follow. While it may not win any awards for its photography, I find the book to be accurate and a must have. I must admit that my preview of the book was only 90 minutes long. The owner asked if I was going to buy it because he wasn't operating a reading room. I'm sure once a copy is in my library my rating number will be a 5.

If you were on the flight line in SAC this book is for you
Photo history of SAC from being to end.... I saw many of the planes I worked and flew on in the book.... One of the best photo albums of planes I have ever seen..

Inspiration to Me!
I thought the book gave good detail on Panic Disorder and how it can affect anybody. The first couple of chapters went on to long about how he grew up and gave no information on his disorder until later in the book. I believe the book should have began when he started to develope Panic Disorder.

holding back?
Be forewarned that panic does not come into this book until page 83 (of 208). Also be forewarned that it's written at maybe a sixth-grade reading level. (Neither of these is necessarily a bad thing.)

It's a simplistic and lengthy testimonial. There are some reconstructed dialogues that feel artificial, some of the chronology is hard to follow, and people appear out of nowhere or disappear after being identified in detail. These are minor errors on the periphery of the book, so they shouldn't detract much from the whole. But they do because the book is about 80% periphery.

I bought it expecting "A Football Great's Battle With Panic Disorder". That's less than half the book. The first 82 pages are mainly football, with lots of numbers and stats. Yes, Campbell's background is relevant, but it could have been presented more engagingly. Given the subtitle, why are they telling us so many names and numbers instead of telling us about his personality, or his emotional life, or how he dealt with fear before he had the disorder? Relevant stuff is hinted at; irrelevant stuff is given in detail. There's an entire chapter on his sausage business that reads like a promotional pamphlet: "All of our meals are precooked and specially sealed with a newly developed technology to keep them fresh. Customers only have to pop them into a microwave oven for three minutes before serving. These meals have become big sellers for us because they are convenient and taste great" etc. (p. 153). And not only that, but "Today I feel as confident about my ability to make a great-tasting meat product as I used to feel about my ability to run with the football. I think both are God-given talents" (p. 153). There's nothing to tie this to the supposed theme of the book.

We get glimpses of Campbell's "pride" (anger at a doctor's suggestion that he try Prozac, sudden disgust with one who asks him to ingest caffeine as an experiment, lashing out at doctors who, attempting to arrive at a diagnosis, inquire whether he uses drugs), glimpses of his warm feelings, and mere hints at "fear of failure" and an "emotional man". But glimpses are all we get. Just when he starts to tell us something interesting, he quits and moves on.

You get the feeling this guy wants to talk about it but he doesn't want to talk about it.

This is also hinted at by some contradictions. In one chapter he can't attend banquets because crowds bother him, but a few pages later he says "My panic disorder has no effect on my ability to function in the business world" (p. 149). If these are both true, some discussion would help. Another unexplored contradiction: He's clear about not wanting to take drugs -- he's seen football players become addicted -- so he tries to limit his medication, but while he's avoiding the hell out of Prozac and alprazolam, he's "popping open a Coors" in front of the TV to unwind from all these damn doctors and he happily won't go anywhere without his tobacco.

Toward the book's close Campbell happens to say that "Before this particular seminar [in Austin, TX, 1993], I'd always held back some of the more difficult parts of my story." I think he still is. (He ackknowledges that his speaking out helps himself, not just the audience.)

The last chapter is the most revealing and interesting, a personal account of some of his feelings, his mental experiences. Probably the most useful part for panic sufferers to read.

It's nice to know that even an NFL giant can be brought to his knees by panic disorder. Many panic sufferers would like to wave this book around as evidence that panic does not equate with general wimpiness. It's just disappointing that more of the story's substance isn't given here.

Good Photo Chronicle
The book is very light on written information, but if it's pictures you're looking for, this is a good book.

For those interested, the book also discusses "cousins" of the flying wings, Northrop projects such as XP-79, XP-56, X-4, etc.

Great photos, poor captioning.
You have to look at this book for what it is: a photo chronicle of the XB-70. The photos are excellent, and there are many I haven't seen previously. Unfortunately, you won't get much new information out of the captioning. Even worse, the captioning is very poorly written. This book needed a good editor!

Actually, it is 3.5 stars, nice historical photos
I was somewhat disappointed in that about 90% of the photos in this book feature just names and not actual nose art like that which was found on the heavy bombers. This is not the fault of the authors, as they had no control of what the airmen painted on their P-51s. Still, looking at the cover, you expect to see more actual "artwork" inside and not just a lot of names.

Having said that, the book is full of great photos showing the airmen with their mustangs side by side. The historical value of these photos is immense and this book is like a mini time capsule to an era when the USAF was fighting pure evil. For the price, it's a nice little book but don't expect to see a lot of the sexy pin-ups featured in here.

Unimpressive
Milton deserves better than this. Orgel and Goldberg boast that they have produced a radical Milton, but all they really offer is rehashed Alastair Fowler, without Fowler's erudition or eloquence. Many of the notes are just plain ignorant. There are better editions out there.

Good edition, bad binding
This is an excellent edition of John Milton's works; it includes all the major works (Paradise Lost, Paradise Regained, and Samson Agonistes) and several of his sonnets, other poems, and prose tracts. The notes are thourough, although they are arranged at the back rather than footnoted. This cleans up the body of the text, but also requires constant flipping of pages. And the pages do not hold together well. After a few weeks of use, mine were beginning to fall out! It is a good, affordable volume; but if you are planning a serious study, expect it to fall apart sooner or later.

Poor effort at updating a VB5 book.
For a book to be called VB6 for Web Developement I would have thought it would have extensive coverage of the new VB6 IIS application project. If your looking for information on IIS apps look elswhere.

Step by step walkthru of VB 6.0 / Web projects
This is the book I was looking for. A walk thru example is the way I like to learn. The book walks you through four major projects with database connections via the Web.

The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that I think it went too much into discussing development methodology.

Recommendation
Compliments to the authors. I've looked long for a practical book that links VB to web site development. This one fills the bill. I recommend it highly. Thanks to the authors for an accessible book that is not micky-mouse.
