"Now what are you doing, Junior?"
In the book The Not Just Anybody Family, Junior was jumping off their barn and in the book, The Blossoms Meet the Vulture Lady, Junior is up to something again. I would say that this book is a 5th or 6th grade reading level. One more thing, the vulture lady's name is Mad Mary but she is not mad. Read this book if you like the Blossoms and their weird adventures.
Everybody is Somebody
This unusual story comes right in the middle of the Not-Just-Anybody series. Some of the other titles are funnier (The Not-Just-Anybody Family) and some are even more touching (Wanted: Mud Blossom), but none is more effective in depicting friendship and expanding our sympathies outward.
Junior makes a most unusual friend--a homeless woman whose use for vultures I won't even mention. The way we come to appreciate her and see that everybody IS somebody is done subtly and gracefully.
It's a great read-aloud. Byars is a master and this series is her masterpiece.
A funny and exciting story!!
In "The Blossoms Meet the Vulture Lady," you will learn that you shouldn't always judge a book by its cover. If you like books about adventure you will love this book. You won't be able to put it down!

A Review of 'The Animal, the Vegetable, and John D. Jones
This book contains some extremely well-developed characters. It also has an excellent storyline. It is about two sisters whose father is 'dating' a woman with a son-John D. Jones. The girls are very resentful of these newcomers. The sisters feel that John and his mother have invaded their privacy, especially when their father invites them to go on holiday with the family. The girls and John get on very badly. The two sisters are determined to make life for him and his mother as difficult as possible. I will not give away the ending completely but John does something which convinces the girls to give him a chance. I thought that this book was very gripping, as I was worried about what would happen-would the girls drive John and his mother away, or would they brave it? A good read.
excitement
This is a trip for Clara and delores spending their time at the beach with their father having a good time. Their father was at his final divores and he wanted his time alone with his two daughters.

The Outcast
I recently discovered this book and read it in two days, pacing myself. It's about a young girl named Anna Glory who was the only non-singing member of a family of gospel singers. I can relate to this because my family sings gospel too but I don't because I get stage fright and don't feel as talented as the rest. She was also underappreciated; nobody really noticed her presence, which is how I ofen feel. But an unexpected person from the past, Uncle Newt, showed up for Anna. She had a kinship with him because he was a convict that the family despised. Together, these two outcasts saved the rest of the family from death. This was a..well..interesting portrayal of a family. The twin boys, who one would expect to be really close, always played tricks on each other. Mrs. Glory favored the oldest child, a girl nicknamed "Angel". Mr. Glory lost the "joy of religion" the instant he exited a stage. Not a very Christianlike family. As Newt said, Anna was the best of them. I reccomend "Glory Girl" to anyone who feels as if they don't belong or count in the world.
This book is action packed and good for a rainy day.
This book is about a girl whose family is in a band except for her because she doesn't have talent. She has to sit in the back and sell tapes. She is a middle child and never gets any attention. I like this book because it has a suprise in every chapter. It's also good because it relates to life. It has a good ending.

Warren misses his mom
This is a pretty good book Betsy Byars wrote. At first I was wondering about the title of the book and the connections it has with the story.Later on I figured out that it represented Warren's anguish about an absentee mom. The author has effectively made us feel the depth of Warren's inner emotions by switching back and forth from his imaginative movie production to his real life situation.I was deeply touched by how Warren understood his family's situation and came to grips with his anger and sense of abandonment.
matty's revew
In the sewers of L.A. there is a 2,000 lb. Gold fish that craves humans because it ate XX-109. This book is about an 8 year old kid that daydreams bizarre movie scripts (this movie is about a 2,000 lb. Gold fish that lives in the sewer) the boy is name is Warren and misses his mom who is on the run from the FBI.
This book is fine but has some unexciting parts. And it can get very perplexing at times. It varies at times from a 3* to a 5* but more often than not incredibly first-class more than ever at the end. I give the end a faultless 5*. You would have to remember things to get the story line of warrens movie but if you concentrate and remember things it's a great book.

The moon and I review
"The Moon and I" is an excellent book that tells the life of the famous author, Betsy Byars. It is a good autobiography. It has vivid descriptions. Betsy writes about her life and how she met a black snake, Moon. I like this book because it makes me feel like I'm with her in her life. What I dislike about this book is that the title was a little misleading. I thought it was about a moon! I recommend this book to anyone; it is for all ages.
Light-hearted autobiography of Betsy Byars
It all starts with a black snake and goes from there. Betsy tells you how she writes books and why she does it.
Cool Book!
In this excellently written book, Betsy Byars describes her friendship with moon (a snake she finds),tells bits of her childhood adventures, and gives helpful writing tips. A book that most anyone will enjoy. Betsy Byars has an amazing way with words! I had never read any of her books, but now am rushing to the library to check some out. I really enjoyed this book because it is well written and interesting. It is also inspiring as I want to be an author.

SHORT, INTENSE TALE
This slender book provides intense reading; it is almost a play for just two characters, as a tough boy discovers his aging grandfather. Angry and rebellious that his parents have temporarily abandoned him with an unknown old man in a decrepit house out in the boonies, the boy tries to run away. But he gradually finds himself drawn to stay--not because of the crusty oldtimer, but to help care for a sick crane. The only tenderness the old man exhibits is for wildlife, which provides a tentative bond. The kid, who is rarely addressed by his name, is not a sympathetic protagonist (boastful, selfish, arrogant), but he finally grows out of himself enough to feel compassion for another species. In so doing, he becomes more human and accepting of his suddenly-acquired grandfather.
SPREADING THEIR WINGS
Very short, intense tale about a 10-year-old boy's discovery of his aging grandfather and bird lore. Resentful of being temporarily abandoned by his parents with an crusty old man he never met before, Sammy spends two days finding out about himself as he starts to grow up. After his unsuccessful attempt to run away, he grudgingly helps the old man care for a wounded crane. The boy is not at all likeable, but he learns to take into consideration both creatures and people besides himself, as he comes to respect the winged kingdom which his grandfather loves. In so doing, he comes to appreciate the old man, who finally addresses the boy by his name.
Good Book
House of Wings is truly a remarkable book. It is about a boy named Sammy and his grandfather who learn how to preserve and conserve the nature. Sammy lives in past day West Virginia and he is 8 years old. His parents, who were in the red for the bank, left him to go to Indiana. He was left with his 'crazy and strange' old grandfather who's only bond is with nature. His grandfather loves birds, but the boy is rebellious and hates them. He wants to run away. I really enjoyed this book and I hope that through reading this, you will too.
