An unproven laundry list for interpretation
For those who want easy answers to deciphering drawings, then this book is a *must read.* But reader beware-- this research is not particularly sound and the original text was written in the early 70's, approximately 30 years ago-- and this book was not significantly updated since then. Hello! Our family values and ideas about family have changed since then, but that is not addressed in this volume. An art therapist worth their salt does not use this type of unreliable assessment to work with clients. I apologize for disagreeing with the last reviewer, but I believe this volume is more of a *must avoid* rather than any type of a classic in the field of art therapy.

It works for me in Special Education: quick emotional test
This is not the original I was trained to use but it works as well or better than Goodall's. I use it twice a year and have found the student responses are more in depth for interpretation than their psychoeducational or psychological reports. You can find more quickly where the "hope" level is and put energy into those who are reachable and refer those who aren't. I have collected hundreds of these samples over the years and find most are right on the mark. Of course, it mustn't be used as a diagnostic tool but it works well as a verifier of info.

MUST READ ART THERAPY BOOK
If you want to learn more about the use of drawings in assessing clients, "Kinetic-House-Tree-Person" is a great book to read. I was fortunate to have studied with Mr. Burns and his work is outstanding in the field of interpretations of kinetic/house/tree/person drawings. Through this book, I have learned how to interpret the drawings of my clients. The kinetic/house/tree/person drawing is an important diagnostic tool in working with children and adults. Mr. Burns's extensive use of diagnostic drawings with his clients of all ages is thoroughly documented throughout his books. Not only do I highly recommend this book, but his others as well. While many of them are out of print, you won't be disappointed if you are fortunate enough to find one. For sure, you want to add "Kinetic-House-Tree-Person" to your collection of clinical resources.

Excellent. Take command of your own HEALTH.
Dr. Robert Arnot is affectionately known to millions of American tv viewers as "Dr. Bob" because of his accessability given the medium. Do not use this familiarity as an excuse to belittle or undermine his scientific and/or medical integrity. This book is a concisely written, highly readable GEM. Arnot's recommendations are easy to implement, and will definitely result in improved nutritional status for women who currently "enjoy" our Standard American Diet (SAD). (Which is notoriously nutrient, phytochemical, and fiber poor, while being replete with saturated and damaged fats, as well as with nutrient depleting and insulin-stimulating simple sugars.)If you are truly interested in the maintenance of health and prevention of cancer (as well as heart disease), not merely with "early detection" or "improved drug treatment protocol" buy this book - read, study and learn.Honor your body and its femaleness. Send love to your breasts. Follow Arnot's well-researched, well-documented recommendations: Enjoy a high-fiber, low GI, phytochemical and soy rich diet that is rounded out with healthful fats.THRIVE, and LIVE to tell your daughters, sons and granddaughters about it all.

A must-read for every woman
Dr. Arnot has taken the terrifying subject of breast cancer and produced a book which is full of hope and specific information for how this dreaded disease may be prevented or reversed. The book begins with a highly informative and readable explanation of what is known to date about breast cancer and its causes.

I like this book, and recommend it highly, for several reasons:

1) Dr. Arnot has made the physiological processes surrounding breast cancer accessible to the reader by using analogies and simple, non-technical (as much as possible) language.

2) The message of hope is the underlying principle of the book. The reader learns that breast cancer develops as a result of a large number of factors working together, and that there are many steps along the way before an actual cancer develops.

3) The book gives specific instructions for dietary and other lifestyle changes which can interrupt the process at various steps along the way. In other words, there is not just one tiny window of opportunity, but many, many things we can do to stack the odds in our favor that we won't get the disease, or to decrease it if we already have it.

4) The dietary and lifestyle changes recommended by Dr. Arnot are simple and make good sense. Most have other benefits, in addition to preventing breast cancer. For example, he recommends lowering the intake of fats, and eliminating certain types of fats. He also recommends a regular exercise program. It is well-known that reducing dietary fat intake, and following an exercise regimen also reduces the odds of developing cardiovascular disease.

Read this book as soon as possible. Get an extra copy for your mom, your sister, your daughter, your best friend.

can women prevent cancer in their lifetime?
october is breast cancer month in this country, we participate in walking marathons, fundraisers and remember those who have died and survived...this book allows women individually, to become proactive in lowering their risk factors, by suggesting lifestyle changes. Dr. Arnot makes crystal clear that changing one's diet is the main factor in lowering breast cancer risk. He emphasizes lowering meat, fat, sugar, and alcohol consumption...in fact alcohol should not be in any woman's diet. He discusses the links between chemical estrogen, high blood insulin levels and obesity as high risk factors. I am amazed about the different sources of chemical estrogens in our environment. His research chapters on vitamins, herbs, good and bad estrogen, is insightful. Chapters include foods which are breast "friendly". This helps the reader to become more informed of her choices....proactive?...or passive? This book helps the reader to participate in the fight against cancer from the "life style change" point of view.

Dirt & Deity: Life of Robert Burns

Very good research, poor writing
The author performed an incredible amount of extensive research using primary sources. In _Dirt and Deity_ he also dispels many of the legends associated with Burns in the past. However, the book suffers a major shortcoming: the book is written like a stream of events, many of them unrelated, rather than in coherent phases. There are chapters, of course, but McIntyre does not summarize or "re-cap" each one (or any of them, really). This leads to confusion and a lack of coherence in the reader's mind.

Burns without apologies
An excellent biography of the great Scottish poet and songwriter. It sits proudly on my bookshelf next to the Burns biography by Mackay. Much blather has been written about Burns, of course, and in a crowded field, I think these two books stand out. A worthwhile purchase.

The Jesuits and the Indian Wars of the Northwest

Carefully Detailed, Single-Sided History
A work presented as historical, with characteristically Jesuit attention to detail and including intricate maps of territories and exhaustive dates of specific events. Outlines the Jesuit presence in the Northwest Territories during the mid-1800's. Imperterbably and unashamedly written from the Jesuit perspective, this is valuable first for insight into the missionaries' attitudes and beliefs, and second (possibly) for historic dates and events. Does require some digging due to the exhaustive detail.

THE CHANGING MENTAL PARADIGM
This is a short investigation of the expanding power of the mind, especially as regards staying young and healthy. It discusses yoga and the chakra system, the physicists and the holographic universe with reference to Michael Talbot, David Bohm and Karl Pribram, the Yaqui Indians of Mexico and the work of Carlos Castaneda, the Seth material, Djwhal Khul and the work of Paramahansa Yogananda. The chapters on dreams include a poem by Robert Browning, discussions of the work of psychologist William James and various accounts of near death experiences. Chapter Seven has interesting discussions of the pineal gland and on mantras, whilst Chapter Eight states the purpose of the book as an attempt to lessen the stranglehold that the dogmatic beliefs of science exert on our minds and the conviction that the power of imagination will soon change our lives for the better. Gripping black and white illustrations enliven the text - these include illustrations of the energy field, the charkas and nadis and portraits of Jan Baptiste Fourier, Emanuel Swedenborg, William Blake an William James. The book concludes with an extensive bibliography.

I am a teacher and I try to remain active. This book helps teachers understand the causes of burnout and thus renew liveliness. It is very thorough and vital for everyone who is interested in educational psychology. I believe that this book is quite scientific and useful practical guide for solving the problem of burnout in general.

Caveat Emptor!
I am a freshman medical student at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock. If there is one thing that I can do for my colleauges is to wave a red flag and tell you NOT to buy this book. Firstly, the organization is extremely poor. Secondly, some information is inaccurate and/or outdated. Finally, the material is obviously condensed from a superior text on Histology by Gartner & Hyatt. Although, G&H is more expensive, it is well worth your money. The two color illustrations are also "modified from" other texts.
