It is not what I expected...
I had very high expectations for this book, and, truthfully they were not met. Although it is a "workbook" and helpful in that way, I did not find the actual chapters helpful. As a psych major in college, I had access to similar "quizes," however it was helpful to compare my fiance and myself, which I did not have the opportunity to do in college. Plain and simple: it is cheeper than taking a course in Psych of Personality, or having a psychologist administer a psychological inventory, but if you have experienced something like this in the past, don't waste your money... Oh yah, one more thing.... If you are not religious, and don't want a book that discusses God's view of money, this is, again, not the book for you.

Christian-filled way to open the lines of communication
Though the first two chapters are filled with spiritual advice, the personality and spending surveys are eye-opening. If you're looking for spiritual guidance as well as financial advice, this is a book for you. However, if you just want to get down to the nitty gritty of how you can cut costs, and live comfortably you might want to look into a more personal finance type of book.

Really helpful!
This is a great book! My now-husband and I bought two copies and went through it during the months before we got married, and it was really helpful in showing us how to put together our first budget. Even more than that, we learned a lot about each other (and this is after four years of dating) and about how we each deal with money. I'm sure those lessons will help us throughout our marriage as we deal with new financial circumstances and situations. I would recommend this book to any Christian couple planning for marriage.

Good ideas with explicit Christian principles and material
My ten-year-old did not understand that this otherwise useful book was heavily threaded with Christian material and Bible quotations, theology, etc. when she bought it with her carefully-saved allowance. The subtitle, impossible to read on the Web page, is "money-making ideas and God's principles for making them work." The Amazon mention of "biblical principles of stewardship" is not clear enough. If this is what you want, ok, but you should know it's there.

Also, she commented, "the money-making ideas are good, but not for people who live in a city like we do!"

great
I really loved this book. It made me realize that my kids really can make their own money. A must read!

Interesting information - Good read!
The revised edition of The Coming Economic Earthquake has some interesting information. For a somewhat different view you should check out "The Christian Financial Crisis" by James L. Paris.

Economics solid, Timing off
While Mr. Burkett's timing for the economic collapse is off the principals remain solid. Our economy will collapse and his book fortells how and why, while still offering hope. Much thought to chew on.

Good Information, Hard to absorb
This book had some very good information, but it's not a quick read. It gets kind of bogged down and my eyes started to glaze over with all the information. I much prefer Ellie Kay's new book called "Money Doesn't Grow on Trees." Ellie quotes Financial Parenting in her book and I can see where the information she got was good.

Outstanding Biblicaly-based guidebook
Most effective for the parents of the 6-16 set. Loaded with practical applications, exercises, family activities, etc, in order to help solidify the family as a whole using finances and finacial concepts as the catalyst.

Will go a long way toward building finacially sound habits and lifestyles. Aside from the Christian/Biblical basis, the material presented in this book just make good common financial sence!

Home Allowance and Chore Kit: Larry Burkett's Money Matters for Kids: Ages 6-16
Published in Calendar by Chariot Victor Pub (1900)

A TERRIFIC FAMILY TOOL
How do we go about paying allowances and still teach our kids to contribute to the family without expecting to be paid?

Written from a Christian perspective, the HOME ALLOWANCE AND CHORE KIT answers this dilemma beautifully. This is not just a book, but a complete bookkeeping system designed to organize household chores, and gauge how well each member of the family is contributing to the family's well being.

Burkett's theory is that each member of the family is responsible for tasks for which he/she is not paid because these tasks serve everyone's needs -- duties such as washing dishes, cleaning bathrooms, setting the table, etc. A child's allowance should not be tied to an opportunity to earn income, because their allowance is part of the overall family income. However, it is important to give children the opportunity to earn extra money doing jobs that go BEYOND those which regularly contribute to the family's overall well being.

The kit contains tear-off "chore sheets" so children can have a constant visual reminder of what their contributing responsibilities are. It also contains an optional job "Board" with a magnetic background (for easy refrigerator mounting) for use after your child completes his contributing responsibilities on the chore sheets. Only the jobs on the "Board" can be completed for compensation, the other tasks on the chore sheets are completed because he/she is responsible for contributing to the household. There is also a Parent's Guide and Log Book which is chock full of terrific "Parenting Economics" tips and instructions on how to use the kit for maximum benefit.

Now this may sound like something anyone an devise on their own, but Burkett has a way of pulling the whole concept together so nicely that I highly recommend this purchase for any parent struggling with this concept.

4 Stars. The kit presents a healthy idea, although it is a bit sparse. Nevertheless, I found it to be a great beginning point for teaching my girls (ages 8 and 5) about responsibility and finances. They went through all the steps with me and happen to think it's also a lot of fun! (now who would have thought THAT would happen??)

very implausable plot...
This is an interesting book, and compelling for political conservatives like myself, but I still find many points of the plot to be very implausable.

For instance:

1) We are led to believe that "Aunt Anne" was killed by government enforcers after she blabbed about the top-secret "THOR" conspiracy. But then we are expected to believe that these same enforcers blindly had all her personal belongings sent to a relative without a search? Okay, maybe.

2) Andy Moss's estranged brother decides to send the original copies of the top secret "THOR" documents to Andy with no apparent goal in mind? And this after Andy's brother has realized the significance of the documents and has plans to cash in on his inside knowledge? This makes no sense. (Except to bring Andy into the plot for the purpose of bringing Dale Crawford into the plot.)

3) Andy Moss gets a 'funny feeling' for no reason and takes these incriminating top-secret files along with him when he fortunately decides to get dinner at the local fast food chain -- the same night that his apartment is ransacked by police looking for him and the evidence. TOO coincidental!

4) After Andy Moss's murder, Dale Crawford can think clearly enough to question his and the government's role in the cover-up, and to decide that he is going to flee Washington DC. However, Crawford can't think clearly enough to realize that government enforcers would be totally unaware of his involvement at this point. Duh.

Anyway, I could go on. I'm not claiming to know exactly how the book *should* have been written, and I did enjoy the book, but it would have been more satisfying if there weren't the little snafu's that plague this plot line.

Excellent Book of Fiction?!?!?
I really enjoyed this book and once I started, I found it hard to put it down. Burkett sounds an alarm to all that will hear. He shows us how laws that are made supposedly for our own good, can also be used against us. Burkett challenges each of us to really think long and hard before we so casually give away our rights and freedoms. Although this book is fiction, it has an erie resemblance to actual current events.

A thriller that makes you think
The book is a view into the year of 2010 with a twist from a sixties missle test. Although the coincidenses are somwhat far fetched the plot ties them together well. I gaurantee this is one that will have you thinking for days with its close relationship to history and real people. I promise you won't put it down till it's done then you'll want to read it again.

Not quite up to standard
Kingdom Come has a plot that isn't quite what you expect... from reading the back cover. I read this book, being very fond of any fiction coming from Burkett. I was unsure about the co-author, however, and wondered if it would affect the novel. It did- significantly. It just isn't up to what I'd come to expect from Burkett. The characters are transparent, there are no surprises, other than the plot shift. And that very plot shift is gradual, therefore predictable. I kept reading, expecting (in Burkett style) to see a surprise ending. I never got it; the book ended in an anti-climatic manner, leaving me thinking the authors better stick to their own program. Pass over this book and read one of Burkett's other (and solo authored) novels. And if you are theologically inclined, skip over the book for the atrocious manner in which spiritual experience is handled at a so-called "revival." A great plot- too bad the authors never really took it where it could go.

just a great Christian Fiction book
One of the things i've enjoyed most about reading books by T. Davis Bunn is the easy flow of his stories. This book is no different. It's a very enjoying story with a terrific Christian theme. In short, i'd recommend this book to anybody who wants to read a good fiction book where you really get to see the power of God at hand.

A fine book...but I wanted more!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading KINGDOM COME. Authors Burkett and Bunn have written some fine novels and have the genre pretty much perfected. This must be difficult when writing a Christian novel. You must be careful with the language and use of violence while maintaining a realistic storyline that isn't pure pabulum. In this, they have succeeded. KINGDOM COME had me wondering just who the bad guys were, what the alleged bad guys were up to, and how the situation could be resolved. All in all, a real page-turner. I only had two problems with the story. First, what was the purpose of the fence? It was the single most damning evidence that the community was most likely a cult, yet it was never adequately explained (at least to my satisfaction). Secondly, the book ended too quickly. I would have liked to read more of what eventually happened to all the major players. There was no mention at all of the despicable Miller Kedrick. That he was no Christian, though a major player in the church, was obvious from the beginning. Did he go to prison? Did he commit suicide? I think the book needed another 10 to 15 pages to tie up the loose ends and let the reader know where everyone ended up - both the good guys and the bad. I'm still happy with the book and glad I read it. I look forward to more books from Burkett/Bunn.
