ON BERKELEY
This book is not only a clear exposition of Bishop Berkeley's philosophy, but makes the strong case that Berkeley's "to be is to be perceived" is not a silly or trivial position as many like to write it off as, but rather a serious account of "reality" and more economical that most theories which take physical reality as an intuitive given.

I used the book as a text in a course on Modern Philosophy, making Berkeley my "featured philosopher" and it worked well. I learned a great deal and my students did as well.

I recommend the book for such courses, or for anyone curious to see and evaluate a strong claim that Berkeley's immaterialism is a persuasive and reasonable theory.

I didn't come away from Bruce Umbaugh's very readable book convinced that my world of perception is not undergirded by a physical reality, but I did come away knowing that I'd never again approach Berkeley with some smug sense of superiority over this "crazy view." Umbaugh makes one sit up and take note of Berkeley as one who deserves his place in early modern philosophy.

Great Book Slightly Dated.
This book was originally written for those who were going to take their certification test for OS/2 Warp v3 code named - Borg.

While it was setup as a self study guide, works surprisingly well as a reference guide. If you are supporting or running OS/2 version 3 this is THE book to have, if you are running Warp4 or eComstation this makes a good companion volume to Neil Stokes Getting to Know OS/2 Warp 4.

My book is pretty chewed up from use when I was supporting Warp 3. If your running Warp this is one of 5 MUST HAVE books!

Many repeated errors, missing listings, text and valuations
This book is exactly as Editor writes: "Most comprehensive world paper money book AVAILABLE on modern issues...".

I would say, - there is no other, better book, so we have to use this one. I have looked through some pages of it and I already found quite a few blunders. First of all there are quite a few misleading price valuations, I would even say many price manipulations. In one half page I found two strong blunders. Kazakhstan #18 has no price values. Kazakhstan #17 has Kenya image instead. Lithuania 200 Litu 1997 are valued at $50 which is an exchange rate. Swiss latest notes are valued below exchange rate if you consider the bank exchange fee. Ivory Coast (page 828) 500 and 1000 Francs 1961-65 mysteriously disappeared. These are just few examples. I noticed many such blunders in the previous editions of this and other books. No ERRATA is being printed. Any self-respecting publisher prints errata pages and puts them in a book, or even sends Errata (corrections) pages to all their customers and book owners. The book was published carelessly. Some colourful images (not so important to a professional) were added, but what's most important is the text info and price valuations. If you make a car and make a small mistake it will crash. Same with this catalogue, if you make so many blunders, errors, mistakes, it becomes worthless of the money we are paying for it. This book is important to a beginner and as well to a professional. With so many errors and blunders it is little use of this book. We still have to use it, cause there is no other catalogue for All World's Paper Money, but making so many errors and blunders shows that the publisher of this book does not care much about what the reader gets from it. Also why not issue this book on a Compact Disc with an ability for a user to CHANGE the text ,so that everyone could correct the publisher's blunders themselves!

#1 for a collector - your social science's extra year.
The book is of a great use not only for a bank note collector, but also for educational purposes, as it includes a brief history of every listed country, written numerals, dating systems even exchange rates of various countries. Paper money images serve as a great educational material about world's famous people, buildings, scenes from history and many more. Everyone may even use it for identifying various paper notes.

This is the first book you should buy on World Paper Money.
If you are a new collector of foreign paper currency, buy this book first. If you are old hand at collecting currency, this is the book you should buy every time a new edition is released. Features all new countries at the time of printing.

a matter of perspective
This book is essential for the library of every scholar of American constitutionalism. For those who have studied the subject, the superb selection of essays on different aspects of American political thought is enlightening. Those who are simply interested in America's founding may however be at a loss and overwhelmed by the wide range of arguments put forward in the different essays even if Gary L.Gregg did an excellent job in the introduction giving an overview to the reader of what he should expect in each essay. Thus, since all and even the American constituiton and its origins is a matter of perspective, this book can only be enjoyed after a thorough study of American political thought. For constitution freaks however it is not only useful to have, it is a real joy to browse through the essays.

Vital Remnants explains America's Constitutional origins
There is a palpable fear that America has lost its way, and perhaps even been untrue to itself. Examples of this loss abound, from school violence to a youth culture nihilism. "Vital Remnants," a collection of essays by some of America's top scholars in history, philosophy, political science, and law, shows, with remarkable clarity, the ways in which contemporary American society has radically altered the course upon which it was originally set. To be sure, our century looks at America with a different set of assumptions than that of our ancestors. "Vital Remnants" gives us clues by which we might stay the course for the benefit of generations to come.

addendum
although i certainly appreciate the above reader's take on bataille's work, there really aren't that many parallels between georges bataille and friedrich nietzsche. they have a distinctly different writing style, very different ideas, and almost diametrically opposed visions of the future. (i would also say, although this would be nothing more than a personal opinion, that in terms of the quality of his prose work, bataille is nowhere near nietzsche's league, however much we may debate the legitimacy or merit of nietzsche's controversial ideas.) while bataille is more about apocalypse and exploring the possibilities of extreme decadence, nietzsche was about nothing of the sort. indeed, he would have in all likelihood abhorred bataille's work, and more than likely written him off as a "decadent" of the worst kind, although i would certainly not agree. the similarities are small, if any indeed exist at all. while nietzsche will certainly have a place in history as one of the greatest philosophers to ever live, it would not surprise me if bataille faded into obscurity, as shock value lessens as sensibilities become more hardened.

idiosyncratic and cryptic, but w/ flashes of genius
bataille's "on nietzsche" is at times incomprehensible and far too much like the author talking to himself than the reader, but it is nonetheless a must-read by any standards. like heidegger, at times we find ourselves lost and simply not knowing what the hell he is talking about, but every once in awhile we achieve a moment of understanding that made all the mental confusion and frustration worth it and then some. bataille takes the death of transcendence to the ultimate conclusion, absolute meaninglessness and hedonism, reaching far different conclusions than nietzsche did about how the individual should live in the absence of any underlying metaphysical meaning. indeed, bataille, while many see him as a kind of modern nietzsche, might be called an anti-nietzschean in that he not only rejected the idea of 'the superman' but, through his novels and philosophical works, created characters for whom the ideas of discipline and so called 'becoming' flew out the window along with any sense of morality or sanctity. bataille says, 'ah, to hell with some future! the future no longer exists, anyway', and the frightening thing is that for a moment we are tempted to say it with him. as with all of bataille's work the intensity of his aggressive amorality is chilling, but it is perhaps among the best literature ever written if we want to gain insight into the nature of the intelligent rebel and the sadean libertine. to make a long story short, read it.

A Question on the Possibility of Community
No disrespect intended, but the above review's take on this text was just so radically different than how I read it that I felt compelled to make a few comments. Bataille is in some sense writing "on Nietzsche", but more/instead of that he is using Nietzsche's work to explore the dynamics of communication and the limits of language, to question at a very fundamental level whether communication is even possible and if so how it takes place. In this exploration, of course, pain, suffering, loss, lack, desire, etc. all come into play, as they must since this is a work of Bataille's. But to speak of this pain as "sadistic" might be misleading... for (to essentialize perhaps too much) Bataille's "argument" centers more on what the individual must do to itself, its own subjectivity, in order to even approach community. When one inflicts pain on onesself, is that sadism? Masichism? The intense introspectivity of this work, much in tune with Nietzsche's, opens the door for the destruction of these very types of subject/object relationships, perhaps even to the point of obliterating the categories altogether. So despite the biographical and stylistic quirks of the author, which some might find troubling, others amusing, others entirely inconsequential, and yet others absolutely essential to the questions at hand (a la F.N.), ON NIETZSCHE is quite a provoking work if any of the issues mentioned are of concern.

We love Blue Dog!
My infant son and I love "Why is Blue Dog Blue?". He is just 6 months old, but he loves looking at Blue Dog, particularly the shiny cover version, and I enjoy the lively text and rich illustration.

A bright, vividly illustrated picturebook
Written and illustrated by George Rodrigues, Why Is Blue Dog Blue?: A Tale Of Colors is a bright, vividly illustrated picturebook for easy readers showcasing a wide range of colors using the image of a personable dog. From cherry red to mustard yellow and salmon pink, Why Is Blue Dog Blue? presents a brilliant color array along with very simple text for young people. A most enjoyable book for little ones, Why Is Blue Dog Blue? is highly recommended for young readers in the process of learning about colors.

Big Dog is a Big Hit
This is a wonderful book! It's a surprisingly inventive and original take on colors. Children will want to read it over and over and adults will enjoy the compelling text and innovative design. The illustrations do a terrific job supporting this unique approach to looking at and thinking about color.

A great story of self-determination, though sometimes naive
I must admit I am biased because I am a really great fan of Celine Dion. Not only do I like her music, but the way she's achieved everything in her life. Here is the story of a person who was definitely ready to do anything - and everything - she had to in order to achieve what she wanted to become: one of the world's most famous singers. There are a lot of anecdotes about both her personal and professional struggles that the public didn't know about; such as why she became so thin, the times she lost her voice, etc. Celine's story is one of personal sacrifice and constant focusing into her goal.

Her romance with Rene Angelil though, is kind of sordid and sometimes boring. I suppose once one becomes a superstar one loses some inhibition. As I was reading the book, at times I turned red. I would have never dared myself to reveal certain details with the openness she does here. In this Celine shows herself as inexperienced and very naive. It's incredible that a person who has gone through so much in life hasn't really gone through the catastrophes most of us have at her age. I'm sorry to say that she still has to suffer a lot to deliver an authentic autobiography that really leaves us something; for example: what will she do when she no longer has Rene in her life? Being myself Celine's age and having also been married to a man 25 years my senior, I can say for certain it is not healthy to be dependent on him as Celine is. She calls it "love", but a lot of the readers will see is something more than that.

Nevertheless, the book is an interesting read from the inspirational point of view. This, I found, is Celine's greatest strength; and not her love for Rene, as she intends to portray. That should always be kept personal.

Enjoyable
As a lover of Celine Dion's music I was pleased to receive her book as a gift this past year. Everything about this incredible lady catches my interest and I was sure this book would too.

Over the years I have read a variety of different articles about Celine's life and though some are verified as being true I am amazed at just how much depth there is to this woman's life. As a fan I've always been interested in what the real Celine Dion was like. What is it like to have all that fame and fortune and is it worth the sacrifices one makes in this life?

I've learned a new respect for the work it takes to become a superstar and for the private woman Celine Dion is. Her love for her immense and close family and her husband Rene sets her apart from so many of the stars of today. Bravo Celine and I look forward to your return to the stage.

Go beyond an author's point of view...
In her own words, Celine describes her life, the good times and the bad. A rags to riches story as they say. Who better to write a book about Celine than herself. Go beyond an author's point of view and go behind the scenes to look at the adventure called life as told by Celine Dion. You can read how Celine got through thick and thin. You can laugh with her, cry with her, love with her, feel with her. You can personally find out more about Celine than anyone you know. After reading this book, fan or not, you will understand her emotions and know what it is like in this hard, musical life of a diva. You will then understand that fame isn't always fortune and that it doesn't happen overnight. Celine will share her thoughts on fame and how to rise above all. How to become a diva. Celine will know, like many other things in the music business. Reading this book will help you deal with your pain while reading how Celine dealt with hers. After reading this book, you have an I.Q. of Celine that noone will believe.

NEWSPAPER WRITER STEVE PEREZ COAUTHORED BOOK
In response to negative review, Steve Perez worked at the Santa Cruz Sentinel for about 10 years. Perez wrote on the homicides in Santa Cruz County. The Sentinel is owned by a division of Dow Jones Inc, and one of the largest stockholder is Mary Bancroft's daughter under the Jane Bancroft trust. Mary Bancroft was a CIA agent and she was the lover of CIA Director, Warren Commissioner Allen Dulles and CIA assest Henry Luce. If you had read first half of the book and gave up you would have read Perez's work. There may be a couple of type'os possibly because when using Quark Express I had to take manuscript to Kinko's and another high grade printer. When I load program it reformatted the text for the entire volume. I went through to clean them up. Have had few complaints since 1996. Many in the JFK assassination community have praised the volume for it's damning evidence against on George de Mohrenschildt's ties to Prescott and George Bush Sr. Bruce Campbell Adamson

A for effort, and five stars for research!
Although this book could be a bit of a headache for anyone who's grown accustomed to an easy pulp-fiction read, it is nevertheless impeccably researched. The material presented, everything from court documents to official correspondence to casual correspondence, presents a startling factual picture of "the ties that bind", and manages to avoid the Usenet-style conspiratorial bent that shows up in most other books documenting the strange Dulles-Kennedy-Bush triangle. American history at its strangest!
Five stars for tracking down and formatting the immense volume of material in this book, and five stars for having the couage to print it. A bargain at any price- in fact I'll trade my copy for a nice Texas gusher, if anyone's interested...

Why Are So Many People Happy on EBAY?
I find this volume well researched and extremly incriminating. Why are so many people happy with this volume on Ebay. Adamson has many positive reviews on Ebay. Everyone who has purchased the volume has left a positive review, it seems on EBAY at user I.D. at ciajfk.com. If it is so hard to follow, why are they happpy? C.W.
