Truly memorable
Finally I've found Flat Stanley!! I read this wonderful book when I was a small child and was thrilled by Stanley's situation. In fact, it is one of the only stories I can still vividly recall from my TV-infested childhood. (And it still affects me-- to this day I have NEVER put a bulletin board above my bed or anything big for that matter!!!). As I grew older, I lost track of my copy of the book-- but would always ask friends if they remembered it when the converstation turned to children's literature. Surprisingly, not many people had heard of the story-- which, of course, inspired me to find the book and bring back a classic to my friends, nieces and nephews. So, I scoured bookstores old and new to find it. And I was without luck-- until now. With the help of my computer and Amazon.com I have, again, found Flat Stanley. So, I'm ordering a bunch of copies-- for myself and my family-- and I'm thrilled that Stanley will find a place once again on my bookshelf -- and will hopefully remain there for years to come. I can't wait for him to get here!!!

If You Like To Laugh,Read This Book
Flat Stanley By Jeff Brown. Who is 4 feet tall, 1 inch thick, and 1 inch wide? Stanley Lambchop is. I thought this book was so good I could already visualize the pictures before I even saw them. Stanley's worst fear is, is he ever going back to his normal life again? Read this book and find out. If I were to grade this I would give it ten stars. This book is so good. I think you should read Flat Stanley. How does Stanley become flat? Read this book and find out. Stanley has many great adventures.

Flat Stanley
This imaginative story by Jeff Brown tells about the adventures of a young boy, Stanley, who is mashed flat by an enormous bulletin board that falls on him in the night. As being flat has its advantages, Stanley has quite a few exciting adventures, one of which includes being placed in an envelope and mailed to friends in California for a vacation trip. The story is filled with mystery, adventure, sibling rivalry, and family fun. Children will love reading about the antics of Flat Stanley!

Note to teachers: This book is great when used as a part of a social studies unit on America. Have children create a U.S. map. Find California. Practice letter writing. Send Flat Stanley to friends and relatives in other states. Locate those states on the class map. Gather information about those states through return letters and let children learn from each other.

There is POWER in this book!
My husband described this book as "the most important book he's read..." The book is more than a motivational and inspirational book (like so many other believe it and you'll see it books), this book gives the reader the how-to necessary to create your own future. Buy it, read it, and live it!

There Is Power in Belief
I have read the book, seen the video and listened to the tapes. Audiences have laughed, cried and most importantly listened and received the wealth of information presented by Brown. You can almost and sometimes literally see lives changing before your very eyes. Gang bangers break down in tears, the once hopeless filled with renewed energy and a plan of action, business organizations really understanding what change means and how to capitalize on it for the advancement of their business and people--ooh, so awesome. Belief, yes there is power and Lester Brown breaks it down for any reader or listener to understand and partake of.... Now we all know that the beginning of inventing our future is to believe that we can...

Impact that of a volcano; inspiring like non other!
All peoples of America shouldrad this book and keep it as a tribute to themselves! I was completely humbled by his rise through cime and the enlightenment he experienced. I recommend this book for all peoples.

One Of The Greatest Team-Ups of the 70s
Nowadays, comic book characters seem to get together all of the time and crossovers were rare once upon a time. This brought together Marvel's two most popular super-teams at the time (Uncanny WHO?). All of the cliches are there, first the teams battle each other and then come together to face the common enemy. Englehart's writing is enjoyable, particularly in the Hulk-Thor matchup. Brown's artwork is crude by today's standards but Sal Buscema's pencils are beautiful, particularly his rendition of the Avengers and the Hulk. A minor complaint is that some pages appear to be reproduced to appear like photostats of the comic book pages and not reproduced from the original artwork.

On my wishlist for further reprints, maybe they could consider the Kang saga (which introduced the Invaders), the Sentinel Story, or the Brand Saga (introducing a young penciller named George Perez). With Englehart at the typewriter, the Avengers were THE supergroup of the 70s, and this book is a great example of that.

We need more 70's books from that bygone era!
This is the classic Avengers/Defenders book that you can't put down! The classic 70's writers and artists are all here. Steve Englehart, writer and Bob Brown and Sal Buscema as artists. It's about Loki, the Avengers first adversary and how he teams up with Dr. Strange's nemesis, Dormammu! It's an all out slug festival to the finish with Marvel's finest talent. I wish they made them like this again. All the artists today get their contract and are in and out like yesterday's news. Bob Brown was one of Marvels most under rated artists. He also did the art chores on Daredevil. Sal Buscema was a workhorse and provided a lot of classic material that still stands up today. Writer Steve Englehart was another one of those names you never heard a lot about..however they were the mainstay at Marvel in the 70's ...

A review ...
The Avengers/Defenders War trade paperback is a wonderful look back at a bygone era of the Marvel Age. It was the prototype for the kind of ultra-dramatic crossover spectacular that a decade and a half later reached binge proportions. Unlike the Secret Wars/Atlantis Attacks/Onslaught/etc. crossovers, the storyline is self-contained within the pages of the two team mags, and has a definite beginning and an ending. And it has loads and loads of charm- and thank goodness for that!

This trade covers the whole of Avengers #116-118 and Defenders #9-11, as well as the parts of Avengers #115 and Defenders #8 that acted as prologue to the later issues. The trade is 128 pages in length, with a stunning cover by fantastic contemporary comic artist Carlos Pacheco- it's a real winner! Not only that, but the pages have been recolored, which means no dot-matrix headaches for you and me. I like that! The art is fine, with able work done by Bob Brown and "steady as she goes" Sal Buscema, and Steve Englehart's scripts are never short on drama.

The setup of the story revolves around the dread Dormammu's planned conquest of "the Universe!" Unable to do so without compromising his pledge to Dr. Strange to never invade our universe (oh how honorable!), he enlists the aid of a blind Loki to help him undertake a plan to merge his universe with our universe. And voila! No inner conflicts, no cowardly deceit! Our universe is now his universe, and he can enslave it at will.

The plot involves drawing the Defenders unwittingly into gathering together the pieces of the Evil Eye, an artifact that will help Dormammu merge the two realities. Standing in the way of the unknowingDefenders is the Avengers, who slowly realize the import of what is happening. Several battles ensue, including Dr. Strange vs. Black Panther and Mantis in an Iowa cornfield, Vision and Scarlet Witch vs. Silver Surfer in a volcano, and Iron Man vs. Hawkeye in Monterrey, Mexico! My favorite battle is between Swordsman and Valkyrie. Those of us who know the inevitable tragic fate of the Swordsman will find in his dialogue the tragic pathos of one who's time is near, and the battle scenes are straight out of Errol Flynn- well planned and ably drawn.

The final chapter, en epilogue if you will, is kind of anticlimactic, and there is a weird glitch where the lettering is off balance in about 5% of the pages, which is annoying. And Englehart inflicted Loki with a strange case of Norse ebonics throughout, whereupon he would moan such ignominy as "I be blind!" But overall, it was a real hoot to read this trade, and would highly recommend it for fans of Avengers, Defenders, Marvel comics, and team comics in general.

Not your typical reference book
This is an aptly-titled book. Although it contains some technical information and how-tos, its focus is much more on selling and planning projects and developing a successful consulting practice. It should not be counted on for troubleshooting or technical reference. The advice on how to be a consultant is sound. However, I am not convinced that SBS is the best choice for small business technology.

Required Reading for SBS
A great reference. Has planning templates, cutomization info, and a lot of other things that make implementing, and billing an SBS install easier.

An excellent resource!
Just finished reading Josh Feinberg's excellent "Building Profitable Solutions With Microsoft Back Office Small Business Server 4.5."

It is an excellent resource for those of us in the computer consulting business. Although it is specifically tailored to those who wish to make a living installing and servicing SBS 4.5, there is enough information to make it a worthwhile purchase for any computer consultant.

The included CD contains many useful templates and documents that I plan on using in my own business.

Thanks Josh!

When Being Good Isn't Good Enough

When guilt has you down, read this book
This book does a great job of helping us keep our perspective where it should be. It helps us understand how God sees us. It also helps us understand our flawed, culturally influenced view, of ourselves. I thought the Piano Teacher story was an awesome glimpse at how a loving God desires to relate to us.

A great help for those thinking of back-sliding!
This is a great book to read if you're thinking of backsliding due to criticism by the "spirit-filled" members of your church. I read this book in Spanish and it is just as powerful. The book deals with many aspects of daily christian life and how we get caught up with trying to meet with other's expectations. It brings you back to the basics of being a child of God, that feeling you had when you first believed. If you're struggling, like I was because of other people's opinion as to what you should be, then this is the book for you. The first chapter alone will convince you to keep God, and not man, in the right place.

Wonderful for anyone struggling with God's grace!
This is one of those rare books that is able to touch people where they are really hurting, heal their wounds, and restore to them a vision of God's grace in their lives. It is designed for Christians who are particularly weary of all the burdensome rule-keeping they encounter in so many churches, and who have been spiritually injured by other Christians. My wife and I read it during a period when we were trying to recover from severe spiritual abuse in a small, cult-like group of Bible-believing Christians. Soon afterward we were priviledged to meet the author, and to share our sad experience with him. Steve Brown is a delightful writer -- but he is even more delightful in person! Now, as my wife and I go back to this book every once in a while for spiritual refreshment, we can hear the voice of the author (it doesn't hurt that we also listen to his "Key Life" radio program), and we know it's the voice of experience, sincerity, and grace. Steve Brown is a thoroughly orthodox, committed Christian who doesn't let that stop him from being gracious and loving, as so many these days seem to do.

perfect for reading on the go
The idea of "the best of the Oxford American" brings out a lot of expectations. This magazine has been the home for a lot of special writing. This book provides some of those moments. I especially enjoyed the narrative of the small town photographer burdened by the unwelcome insights of his coworkers and the blank misunderstandings of his Disney World roadtripping friends. I think that the criticism by Tony Earley would have made just as good an introduction to this book as did Rick Bragg's more metaphorical observation that this writing is "heavy on the salt."
I would recommend this book for anyone that wants to read about the South as it actually is -- unique, history-addled, and genuinely "salty".

Truly the best of the best
This collection of works--fiction, nonfiction, poetry, reportage--by the biggest names writing in or about the South is a real treasure. For those already familiar with "the New Yorker of the South" it will remind those what have made the magazine so special for so many years, and for those who have not discovered the magazine, BOA will be a great introduction to the best in Southern belles lettres. The book, like the magazine itself, is a little trad and not good on commenting on the lives of blacks, gays/lesbians, and immigrants to the South, but there is much for everyone to enjoy here.

For everyone who wants to learn how to relax and enjoy life
I found this book to be very comforting to someone like myself, who likes complete order in their lives, even though life doesn't work like we think it should. Dancing in the Storm gives us permission to take each day as it comes, and make the most of each opportunity. I found this to be a very refreshing approach to life, much different from other books I have read. It reminds us that Our Creator is in charge anyway, we aren't, so we might as well relax, and enjoy the ride. I feel this can be a life changing opportunity for many of us if we are willing to apply the concepts in Linda's book to our everyday lives. I for one, have been doing just that and find myself much more relaxed and free to enjoy what comes my way. Very worthwhile reading.

Taking Chaos theory from a biblical perspective.
Readers who enjoyed When Bad Things Happen to Good People and When Life Doesn't Make Sense, will find insight in McGinn's exploration of chaos. She brings Chaos theory to the Bible in Dancing In The Storm. The topic is complicated but McGinn writes clearly. Scientists define a chaotic system as one in which a number of nonlinear functions interact deterministically in a manner such that outcomes cannot be predicted by humans, even with powerful computers. The example often cited is of a tiny butterfly flapping its wings somewhere in Asia, kicking up a wind that becomes a gale force by the time it reaches U. S. shores. Chaos theory suggests the amazing and energizing fact that the smallest changes can make profound differences. Even the tiny, individual decisions we make can cause positive change in our lives and the lives of others. You and I are not just a number-we're butterflies! Why should you read this book? To think deeply about life choices, to see where you are engaged in destructive coping strategies, and to make some course corrections for your journey of faith. Be prepared to think. McGinn's book covers three main points: Understanding how chaos theory affects you personally; Finding your response to Chaos theory; Coping with the consequences of personal choices. McGinn asks: How do you resist chaos (you do, you know)? Are you a list maker? Do you simply refuse to see it? Chapter two includes a self-test that will guide you to discover your chosen strategy. Once you identify how you cope with chaos (through trying to order it., through legalism, or through spiritualizing the chaos), McGinn calls you to abandon your defenses and devices and learn a new level of trust in God who ultimately orchestrates all the tiny butterflies. McGinn offers a solid Biblical base as well as a genuine understanding of the confusion with which many Christians struggle in their daily lives. It's not a button-down solution or a how-to guide, but a challenge to a new way of thinking. McGinn touches our perceptions about God, faith and choices, and offers suggestions for rethinking our coping strategies.

Hmmm......
First off, being an IT graduate w/out any knowledge of VB6 but with C++/Java knowledge, I wanted to learn VB6 with little fuss. Secondly, when I saw this book, I was very amazed at the book's thickness at a very affordable price. I immediately got it with minimal page flipping. Btw, its also my first VB6 book.

I went back to have a read. It starts off pretty well with basic intro of the IDE, explainations of the toolbox and so on. The code examples presented were good and easy to understand from a intermediate's point of view. Now, being a complete book, I read it halfway thru, and you would've assume they'd explain some code they used in later chapters.

This isn't the case. HOWEVER it does provide a COMPLETE language reference at the back, so some exploring is required though it shouldn't be hard. Also, this book doesn't exactly flow in the way you would want it to, mainly because its a compilation of different VB6 books of varying difficulty levels.

At times, it skips to different topics too fast, leaving many holes in between.... so be careful. On the plus side, this book does cover many topics, including the Win API, VBSCript, VBA and DB programming. So, it's definitely complete in that sense, but they're NOT completely explained.

So what's the conclusion? JUST GET IT! Regardless of your VB level, you will benefit in some form or another from this book, considering the ridiculous price it offers.

Not perfect, but still Excellent
After wading through and returning around 8 VB books in the past couple months, it didn't take long to realize this one is quite a value! This book is a pleasure to read and explains nearly everything in detail. After reading only 100 of the 1,000 pages, I had already easily understood many things the other books confusingly presented. I like hands-on learning and this book fits the bill at every turn. Much of the hands-on stuff is cumulative, in that you start with a simple program and keep adding to it. This makes learning the interactivity of VB elements a lot easier. Best value I've seen.

Good Hodgepodge
This books is bits and pieces taken from several others by the same publisher. I've found several of the examples and subjects useful, including those working with accessing databases including Access files from VB. If you like the style of any of these "chapters" you can find the original text and look for THAT full book. The best feature for programmers of earlier Basic language forms is the Reference at the back listing most of the Basic command functions, with syntax and explanations if not examples thereof. That feature has saved me lots of time. If you know Basic from earlier computers, this book will be helpful on that regard alone, as most books twice its price range omit such a reference guide...

GREAT FOR GEN-XERS!
THIS BOOK REALLY CAUGHT MY ATTENTION JUST BECAUSE I'M A NATIVE OF SOUTH CAROLINA. BUT ONCE I STARTED READING IT, I REALLY COULDN'T, AND DIDN'T WANT TO PUT IT DOWN. THIS BOOK IS PERFECT FOR THE MYSTERY LOVER WHO GETS BORED WITH THOSE OLD FASHIONED AGATHA CHRISTIE STYLE NOVELS. SUSAN CHASE IS THE GEN-X HERCULE POIROT WITH AN EXTREME EDGE. IT'S GREAT TO SEE HOW A MALE WRITER CAN REALLY FIND THE ESSENCE OF A YOUNG WOMAN AND PORTRAY HER IN A WAY WHERE SHE'S NOT THE DAMSEL IN DISTRESS. INSTEAD, AFTER QUESTIONING A MAN, HE'S LOOKING FOR HELP HIMSELF. I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANY YOUNG WOMAN WHO IS INDEPENDENT AND DOESN'T TAKE CRAP FROM ANYBODY. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING FUN AND LIGHT TO READ THAT WILL REALLY TAKE YOU TO ANOTHER PLACE AND TIME, THIS IS DEFINITLY THE BOOK FOR YOU!

fun, light, quick who-done-it
What an enjoyable book! I live in the Charleston area, and this author definitely has the lowcountry pegged. At times Myrtle Beach is swarming with teenagers and young adults and this mystery is SO interesting that it's hard to put the book down because the action is never held up with overly descriptive, boring paragraphs. Chase, the PI who lives at the marina, is so believably real as well as the storyline is. The lowcountry "aristocrat" O'Keys family is so interesting. I liked the book a lot and the flow of the story made this a quick page turning read. Jenny's overbearing mother is a piece of work. This one will keep you reading til you're through so don't plan on getting anything else done once you start this book:-}

He and the book is awesome!!!
I met this guy at a book signing in Charleston. And his personality stands out as well as his book, too. " The Color her Dead " is a very interesting, fiction-mystery book that leads you to ,one of the Southeast's tourist spots, Myrtle Beach. This book explains that Myrtle Beach does have " History " and in it, it has some mysteries that the readers as well as residents living at the " beach " don't know. And Steve Brown tells you all about the mysteries that is hidden in his books. If you have " spare " time you have to read this book, it's awesome!!! so awesome, you have to read to see for yourself!

Great for old-timers and newbies alike!
The Dragonlance Saga is the longest-standing TSR series ever, the archetype of "classic" AD&D. With the advent of the SAGA rules system, however, and the absence of Weis and Hickman in the creative process until recently, Dragonlance has taken a turn for the worse. However, this book is a great way to get back to the basics of what made Dragonlance and AD&D great back in the late 80s. Old-timers can play the epic again in a stream-lined, comprehensive book, made new by the inclusion of SAGA-style rules. Classic AD&D rules are also provided, though I recommend giving SAGA a shot, even if you're not into the Fifth Age products. Those new to the Dragonlance series can take part in what made it so great. The Chronicles and Legends novels have seen their third or fourth reprint for good reason.

I do have a few gripes about the material. I suggest that the referee running the adventure be familiar with the novels and make suitable changes as he sees fit. In some ways, this adventure follows the original adventure modules more than it does the novels, meaning that the same inconsistencies exist, even though Dragonlance Classics does include several sections explaining how the plot was advanced in the novels. I advise making some changes to the statistics of the characters to better reflect the novels. If you have any of the expansion material for Fifth Age, you can still use some of it to enhance your use of this product--there are simply a few adjustments to be made, which are not difficult at all.

In short, any Dragonlance or AD&D fan looking for a quality product should seriously consider this one. They are few and far between.

A Masterpiece
While it's probably more appealing to SAGA Partisans such as myself than to hardcore D&D fans, this deluxe adventure belongs on every DRAGONLANCE lover's bookshelf as a comprehensive guide to the locations and characters of the War of the Lance, as well as one of the best tellings of that era I've yet seen.

I've seen it compared with the original adventures, of which I own about half. In my view, this rewriting lacks some of the encounters and elements of the original, but makes up for that with stronger characters and plotting, tighter continuity, and a greater sense of scope and freedom.

_DRAGONLANCE Classics, 15th Anniversary Edition_ has become my fundamental reference of the last years of the Age of Despair, and I recommend that everyone with an interest in DRAGONLANCE or in epic fantasy campaigning take a look at it.

Every Dragonlance fan should buy this!
I own the original adventure series and have played them several times, but this book still gave me tons of new possibilities to explore! My favorite things Steve Miller and Stan! did were the way they interwove subplots throughout--like the way they used Kitiara and her henchmen, for example--the suggestions for using dragons in a DL campaign, and the way they staged the climax in Neraka. It was much better than both in the original adventure series AND the novel! I also liked the way newer book characters like Ariakan and Dalamar have been placed into the storyline. It's also great to finally get maps and adventure material for Kalaman and Port Balifor! The art was also some of the best that has graced the pages of Dragonlance, ever. I don't think the Companions have looked this good since Larry Elmore drew them way back in "Dragons of Mystery." My favorite illos are the one of Tanis on p.13, Tas on p.17, the one of Sturm on p.18, and the ones of Laurana on ps. 23 and p. 208. I also love the picture of Alhana on her griffon on page 153. I hope Daniel Cramer is going to be doing more Dragonlance art.Another very cool aspect of the book is how the writers managed to write it so it works for two game systems, yet still did it in such a fashion that non-gamers can read the book and enjoy it. (Like my roommate is doing.)If there's any complaint, it that some of the maps are a bit hard to read. I would have liked a bit more definition on some of the terrain maps. There are times when it's a bit difficult to tell a lake from a plain, or the ocean from land.Still, this is definately a Five Star effort!
