My reaction to this book was mixed. It contains many (432) suggestions/reminders of things to do to help make Christmas meaningful. Some relate directly to what I feel is the true spirit of Christmas: peace and caring among all people. Others seem to make clear that a target audience is a middle- or upper middle-class audience with plenty of time to devote to baking, running errands, etc. More suggestions tailored to busy schedules would have been helpful, as well as less emphasis on a red/green/santa theme. I find the holidays commercial enough without this additional impetus. The suggestions focused on giving of myself I particularly enjoyed.

For the past several years I have pulled this book out at Thanksgiving to remind myself of specials "niceties" to include during the holiday season. Many of the author's suggestions have become standard fare in our home---like rolling pine cones in peanut butter, sprinkling with bird seed which adheres to the peanut butter, and hanging them from trees as a nice treat for our feathered friends. You'll find hundreds of short suggestions for making your holiday bright and cheery--everything from baking Christmas cookies while a Johnny Mathis CD plays in the background to stirring your hot chocolate with a candy cane. My favorite is: Throughout the holiday season, give your family the gift of a sweet disposition.

My only disappointment is that the author never did a follow-up volume with even more ideas.

I would reccomend this book for people who watch Oprah religiously; beyond that, don't buy em (they are just way too cheesy.) There are 30 different postcards. Some of the sayings are: "Nothing tastes as good as vegetables from your own garden.", "Kids need hugs more than they need things.", "You can't pay someone to practice for you.", "You should never play for a tie score. Go for the win.", and "How you do your work is a portrait of yourself."

Postcards from Live and Learn and Pass it on is a wonderful book. I sent some of those messages to my friends and they were delighted to recieve something so special. The messages are perfect for cheering up a persons gloomy day or just a nice way to say hello. They are cute messages with beautiful meanings. A very special book that i reccomend.
