A Wonderful Book
This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. Written by Dale Susan Brown and Richard Nelson Bolles(Author of What Color is Your Parachute), it is a simple and concise guide to finding a job if you have a disability. It pulls no punches and tells it the way it is.
It gives simple, concise advice on how to conduct a job search, and what to do in an interview. It tells you how keep a prospective employer from getting nervous about your disability, and how to communicate in an interview in an honest and positive way.
If you are person with a disability this is a terrific book, if you have a co-worker with a disability, it is a terrific book, if you have people working for you with disabilities it is a terrific book, and if you are a "normal" person (whatever that is...} it is a terrific book.
The advice in the book leverages the expertise of both authors and is sound and easy to understand. It also helps you to do a better job, once you have employment. The book is highly recommended for everyone!

WOW -- What a book
WOW - What a book, co-authored by Dale Brown and Richard Bolles, the world known author of What Color is Your Parachute. Dale and Richard have developed a book full of concepts, how to and methods for empowering those of us with disabilities to want to seek out employment against the roadblocks that confront the normal job search.

The book is a MUST READ! A "must read" for even people who are currently employed; as it will give you the insight of what a person with a disability will go thru during their job search. Any temporary able bodied person may become disabled at any time in their employed life. Your "employment life" will be altered forever; thru no fault of your own doing.

No one chapter stands out. Each chapter carries its' own weight for the total read of this outstanding document.

I wish the authors great success with an excellent and easy to read reference book and a solid companion to WHAT COLOR IS YOUR PARACHUTE!

The authors have broken down yet another barrier!

Great book for job-hunters with special needs.
This is a great book for the individual with a disability who is thinking about getting off public assistance or who is just planning to switch jobs. This would also be a good book for any employer who might hire an individual with a disability.

Often both employers and prospective employees have misconceptions about what the law says about disabilitiy. The book explains how the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) protects individuals with disabilities. At the same time, it also explains what the ADA will not do.

I particularly liked the section on creative ways to interview for a job. Having a disability may make one seem strange and unfamiliar to a prospective employer. The book suggests creative ways to emphasize how one is also similar to the employer. Even if you do not have a disability, you may still want to read some of these clever suggestions.

It is often difficult to get disability benefits in the first place. This makes returning to work seem a risky proposition: What if you try to go to work and you are really not ready. If you fail, will you lose your disability benefits and have to start all over again? The book explains ways to protect some degree of benefits while easing back into the work force.

The two authors blend their areas of expertise to produce an outstanding book. The book is divided into sections with clear explanations and objectives. In the back of the book there are useful appendices with resources for further help and support.

A Wonderful and Very Factual Book About Ancient Egypt
I want to be an Egyptologist when I go to college and this was one of the many Egyptian books I have read and studied. It was also one of the better ones. It has amazing pictures and essays done by many different people that help to add to the facts they present. I rented it from my local library, but in order to study it more I have just purchased it here, at Amazon. If you want information about what this incredible civilization was like, this is definatly a book for you to read.

Shows Great Promise and is Well Worth Picking Up
Jakandor, Isle of Destiny is the second of three parts in TSR's new Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Odyssey campaign setting, intended for use with Jakandor, Island of War (part 1), and Jakandor, Land of Legend (part 3). Included are a full-color poster map, a bound Player's Guide, and a separate, pull-out DM's Lorebook.

This part of the Odyssey campaign is based on the clash of tribes of barbarians against a nation of wizards, the prize being the lands of Jakandor. A different major culture is detailed in the players' section of each set in this trilogy, each culture considering itself the epitome of human development (of course). With this set, players can construct characters from the nation of the Charonti, while the dungeon masters' section brings the traditional Charonti foes, the Knorr, to the field.

The Player's Guide gives readers the Charonti history from their creation myths through their rise and near-destruction to the present. Various chapters contain an overview of Charonti society, customs, rules, and caste system; unusual undead members of society; nine character kits specific to Charonti characters; new non-weapon proficiencies; new spells and magic items; and a list of commonplace magic items that might actually be available at market.

The first half of the DM's Lorebook covers the island and the Charonti foes. First up is a section for managing Jakandor's particular environs and the Charonti themselves, the topics including undead henchmen, wizardly training and assorted magic, and the Wasting Plague that nearly finished the Charonti race. Next, clans, cults, and magic are detailed for the creation of Knorr foes, as are character kits and the clans' Guardian Juggernauts. Note that in the first Odyssey set, Jakandor, Island of War, there are even more kits for non-player and player characters alike. In the second half of this booklet is an adventure for four to eight 1st level adventurers, to be personalized by the DM. In our review copy of the Lorebook, the texts of pages 4 and 5 were transposed (though the page numbers themselves were not) and the table of contents did not match the actual locations of listed sections.

An attractive, 25" x 16" player's map is included, and is deliberately cryptic, with some variable sites based on Charonti explorations and the DM's whim; a few details are added in the Lorebook, and the history of certain areas is given in the Player's Guide. More on these areas is contained in the previous Island of War product and a fully detailed map will come in Land of Legend when it is released.

Jakandor, Isle of Destiny shows great promise and is well worth picking up.

Wizard dominated Setting
A very good supplement setting, it is an island/small continent where a high magic culture dominated the world until a magical plague decimated the population. Now it is based on necromancy and recovering its lost arcane knowledge and power. A great reason to go explore old dungeons. it provides new spells for the eight colleges in AD&D and required specilist wizards classes which have neat powers but are signigficantly reduced in spell choices compared to normal wizards. The common minor magical items and the mass use of animated dead in society for physical labor are great.

It also contains limited information on the invading barbarians who hate all magic users and are detailed in the other Jakandor supplement Island of War.

Brown scores again
Dale Brown's still the champ, and he proves it in this latest thriller. The weaponry, as usual, is top notch, and the story moves along faster than ever. I think, though, that he should consider giving Col. Bastan a promotion - he really has a lot of responsibility for that rank. Besides, he's conceited enough to be a general.

Good News: The Fall of the Prison
This book caused this reader to examine his own convictions about pastoral work with "convicts" and understand the historical relationship of the "Christian" church and prisons. Griffith reveals repeated institutional failures to reform criminals by punitive and rehabilitative means throughout history.

Griffith challenges the reader to walk the more excellent way of love that leads to the fall of the prison. He calls the reader back to the early history of the Church when disciples followed Christ into prisons in Christian solidarity with the prisoners - a less traveled narrow way of peace that leads the wolves of the world to dwell with the lambs of God.

As a conclusion to his book Griffith brings the reader to a fork in the correctional road: does the reader choose to enter through the wide prison gate to follow the easy way of crime and punishment or does the reader choose to go through the narrow heavenly gate to follow the hard way of loving one's enemies?

This book begs an answer to the prison's questionable past, present, and future. Read the book and answer the call to Christian discipleship. The walls are tumbling down!

moving poems by a young girl with learning disabilities
This beautiful set of moving poems was written by a young girl with learning disabilities at a time when "learning disability" was not understood or even defined. These poems made me realize how, even the very young, have the capacity to understand so much. As a physician who treats patients with physical disabilities, I have often used these poems for inspiration. With faith in our world, (even our imperfect world where little girls are teased and much sadness can exist), we can reach and grow and "climb our mountains". A wonderful little book.

A chilling story and a metaphor
"Lone Tree" is an account of a killing rampage by a one-time prosperous Iowa farmer and a metaphor about the killing of the American farmer during the 1980's. Author Bruce Brown does a great job of examining the psychology of prosperity, the cause and consequences of Federal Farm policies, and the forces that propelled Dale Barr to kill his neighbor, wife, and banker. As we see and smell corporate hog confinements dotting our landscape and witness the continued fall of farm incomes, the conditions for a reenactment of the tragedy of Lone Tree exist. Not a fun book, but a good one.
