A solid book with many wonderful stories
Although the title focuses on kings, the book actually provides a brief history of the great empires of Iraq from 2000 BC to 600 BC. I enjoyed the many stories about the many kings who shaped the ancient history of Iraq. Unfortunately, the book does not do justice to the many great kings who lived prior to 2000 BC.

A Great Read for basketball history buffs!
I received this book as one of the set of books by Chris Warner.
I really liked the Tribute to Pete Maravich in the middle of the book. I saw him play in his floppy socks at Auburn back in the early 70s and he was phenomenal. This is a great book for any serious SEC basketball fan. All of the great players' and coaches' stories are there. I highly recommend it!

Excellent treatment of a very complex subject
Textbooks on the sumerians are often filled with with art and fail to communicate the tremendous contributions of these ancient people. This book provides an objective evaluation of the builders of mankind's first civilization. The reader is left wanting to learn more about the sumerians who were the first to develop writing, wheel, law, school, war, art, cities, ..., etc.

Not bad at all........
This is Brown's debut novel, and to truly "dig" his others, you should read this one first. It's got an action filled, ambitious plot, even if some of the technology seems a little far-fetched. But who knows? Maybe the USAF has something like the Old Dog EB-52 in Area 51. The story kind of lost a bit of the suspense when the endpaper map clearly shows the Old Dog landing in Alaska at the end of the mission, but still you can truly get into the story after maybe a dozen pages or so. Flight of the Old Dog definetly hooked me onto Dale Brown novels. Bravo to Brown

An all-time great
If there is a series of books out there that will make you feel like you are actually in it, then its the Flight of The Old Dog series. This debuet book for Dale Brown is by far the greatest story I've ever read. It will keep on the edge of your seat the whole time. not one slow section in the book. In the wake of the World Trade Center terrorist attack, it makes me wonder what the Old Dog crew would do. If the were real of course!

Great work, this is a book I want to see in theaters.
I have read this book a number of times, Dale Brown's technical know-how and imagination kept me on the edge. I was actually sorry that I had finished it. I recommend it to anyone. The characters, the scenarios, the timing, is all spot on. I will keep reading his books as long as he keeps writing them.

A Great Read
This was a really good buy. I have read all of Coonts books along with Clancy (except his Net Force), Brown, & Coyle. This is a great book for when you want to get down and dirty with the action within a short period. Each short is creatively done and reflects different views on combat and its effects on people and machines.

This is also a great way to learn about up and coming authors in this particular field.

Combat #3-Good War Stories!
Combat #3 offered up four good stories by four good authors.
The first story was written by Harold Coyle. He told of a special Army unit made up of cyber warriors. They are recruited to combat the growing attacks by hackers whocause online terrorism around the world. The next story is by Ralph Peters. His story takes place in the Balkan states. A U.S. Army observer is taken hostage by the people he is sent over to observe.James Cobb tells of a U.S. calvary unit that does combat with an Algerian recon division that is attempting to attack a helpless African country.R.J. Pineiro, one of the rising stars among today's authors tells of a Russian terrorist seizes a space station
equipped with nuclear warheads. It is up to Marine Diane Williams to stop him.Four good stories for the price of one. Read this. You will enjoy it.

Outstanding Book!
This is a very novel concept to writing a book. In Combat#1 you
have Larry Bond,Dale Brown, and David Hagberg as the authors of three short novels. These are three of the most read authors all
together in one book. The first story written by Larry Bond is
cakked Lashup. In this story the Unites States has to deal with
China shooting down their satellites. A very good story. The next
story is written by Dale Brown. This story tells about the role
of a review board. It also has some good sequences. The third story is written by David Hagberg which features his favorite
action character Kirk McGarvey. This story involves the rescue of a Chinese dissident. This series of books is truly quality
reading. You have some of the best authors in the world featured in the Combat series. Buy this book. You will not be dissapointed.

Silver Tower
Published in Audio CD by Brilliance Audio (August, 2003)

Average review score:

A wee bit far-fetched....
That's about the thoughts that were running through my mind after turning the last page. Don't get me wrong. Silver Tower was still an above-average book. It's just that between the fictional space station, fictional lasers, and fictional U.S. and Soviet space fighters, it lost, in my humble opinion, a degree of realism. It still had action o'plenty, and an enjoyable plot. I would still recommend this book to anyone

SBR Analysis: Coulda been better . . .
Silver Tower is a fast-paced book that depicts a war over the control of Iran. Set in 1992 (a bit dated, USSR was dead then), this book revolves around an American space station called Armstrong, but nicknamed Silver Tower because of it's anti-laser reflective armor. The problem is that Silver Tower has yet only begun to test it's weapons systems, and now the station commander wants the platform to use as a military surveillance station. He does not consider the consequences, as the Soviets will do anything to rid the skies of this battle station, which gives the Americans unmatched control of the region. Problem: For an air force officer (ret.), Brown seems to be biased heavily towards the Soviets. Not only are their missiles able to decimate an American carrier force (protected by two Ticonderoga-class AD cruisers!), but their planes and guns and bombs perform better. Even the language use (The American planes screeched, the Soviet planes roared with immeasurable fury and power) depicts a frail, weak American nation and a roaring, powerful, abusive, unstoppable, Union of Soviet Socailist Republics JUGGERNAUT! Besides that, this was a really good book.

Icredibly realistic
This story is mainly about a scientist named Ann Page. She is the leader of the onboard laser called Skybolt. It is on the end of a space station called Armstrong, also nicknamed Silver Tower for its anti-laser shielding. It also involves the Gulf of Oman, the Persian Gulf, and the Strait of Hormuz with the USS Nimitz and the Russian Breznehev. The two countries fight continuously to try and win a war. The Russians try to create a new country devoted to themselves, and the Americans try to stop them. The spaced based laser(sbr) must work for the Americans to win. I would only recomend this book if you know something about the military and space. If not you might not really understand the book. The weapons are somewhat realistic as well as the people. This book also shows the special something that all of the great books have.

Hammerheads

Too simplistic...
The first book I read from Dale Brown, and I must say I am unimpressed. My foremost problem are the characters are given slight history but mostly glossed over for never ending episodes of action and skirmishes. There's not one character that truly stand out to like or hate. The family problems of the main character, Ian Hardcastle, is poorly developed, especially considering that his son is also using drugs.

I sometimes think that this is Dale Brown just wrote this to cash in on the success of Tom Clancy's Clear and Present Danger. The solution of blockading Florida alone is still rather simplistic in my opinion. Certainly it will deal a major blow to South American cartels initially. I'm already thinking the Yakuzas and Triads might take over importing of drugs.

A Good Novel!
This was quite an interesting book. The U.S. government decides to create an agency to battle imported drugs from Colombia. The name of this unit is "Hammerheads". Of course you have a favorite Dale Brown hero Ian Hardcastle. The drug lords have hired a Cuban general to lead their smuggling effort. There is plenty of high flying action in this book. The new unit is tried again and again. The drug lords through their Cuban general prove to be a worthy advesary. The state of Florida is under the gun in this book. If you like jets and airplanes this is your book. Buy it, it is a good read.

Another winner from Brown
In his best tale yet, the techno thriller author supreme posits a new supergroup of agents brought together to foil the drug trade. Operating from off shore platforms the Hammerheads use the latest in technology to battle smugglers and cartels. When they go up against a Cuban backed drug lord, they find he has the ability to fight back. Excellent adventure, fast moving and entertaining. Brown outshines the competition in this adventure.

A fantastic career and work book!
Do not let the title of this book fool you. Although it is designed to help people with specific types of disabilities choose a career, and find and keep a job, it is an excellent work with a wealth of sound advice of us all. Carefully researched and written in a clear and concise style, it is one of the best books on career and employment issues I have ever read.
The book consists of an introduction, 15 chapters, a bibliography, and an index. The book is a treasure trove of information and techniques that should be useful to everyone, not just people with the specific disabilities described in the title.
The book is well organized and written in a clear an easy to understand style that helps the reader to analyze and deal with the various issues faced by people with learning disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), and Dyslexia.
However, as I read through the book I realized that these are issues that everyone faces when they are looking for a job, dealing with school, and handling workplace problems. The author's advice is applicable to all of us. Her thoughtful counsel about advancing in the work place, dealing with co workers, looking for a job, and all the other things she addresses, is good solid advice for all.
I highly recommend this book to everyone, disabled or not. I would call this book "Universal Design for Finding and Keeping the Job of your Choice!" Everyone should buy and read this book!

Practical help in a readable format
This book provides high school students and adults with a variety of strategies to help them explore career options, find a jobs and keep the jobs. It encourages flexible, positive thinking about job options.

The book is formatted in a way that makes it accessible to its intended audience. The print is large, the and the goals of each section are clearly stated.

The author gives excellent information about asking for accommodations, but she does not lose sight of the individual's need for self-knowledge and personal responsibility.

Carol E. Watkins, M.D.

a great resource for physicians involved in counseling
This wonderful book is a great resource for all of those professionals who have occasion to counsel people with learning disabilities. Easy to understand advice on issues such as education and career are presented. Interestingly, I believe that the information in this book is also helpful to non learning disabled young people who need a common sense and practical approach to "learning a living". As a physician, this book has been a helpful resource on many occasions.

Great Book
This is my second Dale Brown, and if i can describe this book in one word, the word is ACTION. THe descriptions of Dogfights are very good, and the plot is very good. THe only problem in this book is the date of the History .. 1996 .. and in the book the USSR still exists .. but we can forgive the autor .. because this book was writen in 1989.
Great Book ... must Read

The best techno thriller I have ever read
The combination of an excellent aircraft and mind control is perfectly descibed by Dale Brown. A book so good you only can stop reading after you finished till the last page. My only comment is that Dale Brown's books are not published in The Netherlands, and therefore most Dutch people are not awaire of this great writer.

Exciting Air Action
Read the prologue carefuly-you'll need it later. because everything in this exciting thriller fits together like a jigsaw puzzle. From the top secret deep cover Russian training school to the chase through Nicaragua to the final fate of the Russian mole, this is a book that will keep you in its grip until your through it. Although I'm not up on the aviation terms, I found that I didn't get lost in technicalities as you do in some thrillers. Dale Brown writes a mean adventure novel even with the jargon. Besides they give you the glossary for tech terms BEFORE the story. Pick it up, you're in for an exciting time.
