Insightful, serious!
Once again the editor has managed to gather the best literary minds together to develop a collection of literary essays on one of the classics of American literature; we are able to visually see the development of the novel as Twain (Clemens) would have wanted it understood. Bravo, Harold Bloom

Hurray! The best romantic anthology
This is the best anthology if you are interested in the romantic poets. It includes masterful selections of the major figures of the era as well as wonderful minor poets such as Clare and Beddoes. The prose selections are really helpful as well. The Dover Thrift edition is good to have for its price and its size. Bloom and Trilling's romantic anthology is the best for inclusiveness, to get a more complete, complex picture of this wonderful period in poetry. Bloom's ear for lasting, beautiful poetry is perfect. Moreover, the introductions to each poet couldn't be any better, and the notes to the poems are not intrusive, and are not superfluous. Five stars!

Blends a biography with plot summaries and critical essays
Harold Bloom edits Shirley Jackson, a research and study guide which blends a biography with plot summaries and critical essays covering the depth of Jackson's works. 'The Lottery', 'Charles' and 'The Haunting of Hill House' are the featured works here, selecting some key, different features for focus among her myriad of writings.

Lots-o-Info!
This is one of the most informative books I've ever read. Harold Bloom takes you through, close to every piece of literature ever written by Williams, and tears it apart piece by piece, allowing the reader to get to the essence of the writing, and also get some insight from another person. I think it to be very refreshing to find such a tacctful book on literary criticism. It's a fabulous book that I would recommend to anyone in a heartbeat!

One Of The Best!!
A Streetcar Named Desire, by Tennessee Williams is one of the best plays that I have read in years. First adapted to film in 1951, by Oscar Saul. I must recommend this play to all theatre directors out there and say that this would be a very large hit.
Once again, I say that A Streetcar named desire is one of the best plays I have read.

Another great anthology from Bloom and Trilling
Just like the Romantic anthology, this book gives you that feeling of confidence and comfort that you are actually reading much of the great work of the period, and that it has shown you the way to finding more. Great selections from Tennyson, Brown, and others, as well as insightful introductions to each section and writer.

Especially recommended for students of DuBois' writings
Du Bois had many interests and writings from artistic ventures to tackling the political issues of his times: his life was filled with controversy and essays here celebrate his scholarship, examining his influence in the academic world and considering the extent of his social, political and racial insights. Especially recommended for students of DuBois' writings at the advanced high school and college levels.

One man's view of the history of Western Literature
If you find yourself with two or three nights' worth of free time
on your hands, spend them reading the latest book of criticism to
come from the hands of Harold Bloom, The Western Canon. Not only
will you be, at times, outraged by his assessments of the history of
Western literature, but you will also be amazed by the author's
inability to recognize those works that truly deserve a better
treatment than he gives them in this work. But, that is Mr. Bloom's
point in writing The Western Canon: one can argue forever about which
books truly deserve to be recognized as the greatest works of literature
in the Western canon and which do not. If nothing else, Mr. Bloom's
book succeeds in making one think about the state of Western literature
and what is involved in choosing the books that comprise the canon of
Western literature. In other words, it is a must for those who take
their reading seriously.
