Blackaby's book is an excellent encouragement for those who desire a deeper relationship with God.

Using the Biblical story of Abraham as a backdrop, Blackaby covers several principles of a closer relationship with God, including:

1. God's silences are opportunities for our faith to grow.
2. Many times a long period of time may take place between God's promise and its actual fulfillment.
3. When we unconditionally release our lives to God, He will work through us to be a blessing to others for His glory.
4. God always takes the initiative with us and requires total faith in Him.
5. God will reveal His purpose when our heart totally belongs to Him.
6. God will use difficult circumstances in our lives to teach us dependence on Him instead of self-reliance.
7. God took several years to mold Abraham into the man He wanted him to be.
8. Nothing is too difficult for God!

This study Bible has 3-4 excellently worded questions at the begining of each page and 3-4 short, insightful comments at the end of each page and a wide margin for you to write notes as you prayerfully reflect on each page of the Bible

Henry's understanding of revival is deepened by his personal experience of revival in western Canada in the 1970's. This is a thoroughly biblical treatment of the ways of God in revival.

I thought that this book was worth buying, I got a lot out of it. This book is about having a better relationship with God by learning to hear his voice, finding and following His will. It's a good book for new Christians and mature ones. They also ask the question if God talks to people today and if God has a will for every Christian's life, they present both arguments and give you their take, which I agree and that is that yes God has a will for your life. It talks about how to tell if something is from God or the devil. It also covers how God used to talk to people in the past as well as the present. I found the book easy to read, informative and helpful. I really think that the authors covered a lot of stuff and that they did their research.

This book is so simple, so fundamental to improving your life, both in your marriage and your parental roles. I would recommend it to any couple who seeks God's guidance in their life.

As a reader of Dr. Blackaby's this journal/book ids a great resource for teens, college age and young adults serious about going deeper in their relationship with God. A great resource for a journey with God.

I bought this devotional about 3 months ago. And I read it daily it has really blessed me. The first day I read several pages and I was in tears. My spirit was truly touched. I highly recommend this book to everyone wanting spiritual guidance.

This book openned my eyes and my heart to the ways God's love is flowing to all of us now. I'm 57, not a teenager, and I've found that every word I've read here speaks right to me in my adult life. It explains things that I've never understood before and draws me in with its questions. Don't miss this extraordinary treasure.

Great book. But what I really want is to get hold of the Workbook which is not available in Malaysia. I'm sorry if I'm misusing this column - I don't how else to get through. We did Experiencing God a few years ago and I must say it is the best workbook ever - period. We got it from the Philippines and it was half the price than if we got it from the States. I understand from my local Baptist Bookshop in Penang, Malaysia that we can no longer get copies from the Philippines. That's not good for us. Please authorise sales to Asia from Philippines. Secondly, we need Fresh Encounter workbooks - preferably printed in Philippines or Singapore. The book (not the workbook)is available in a special print from Singapore - I think Campus Crusade. Please help, urgently!

If you are searching for revival in your walk with Jesus Christ, or if you are a new Christian desiring to "ground" yourself in the Word, this book is what you're looking for. The format allows you to examine your personal relationship with God by answering questions and learning how to pray for God's direction in your life. Just as God's mission for your life, this book is not to be taken lightly. Plan to study this book with a group or in dedicated quiet time. This experience requires your availability to listen to what God wants to reveal in your life.

I've participated in a small group study of Experiencing God once, and I taught it twice after that. I think this is one of those rare workbooks that in a simple way, captures the deeper truths of God and the Christian life. It is profoundly simple. I've read a lot of Christian books in my time, and there really isn't one like this. It's in a category of its own. You should definitely do it in the context of a small group. Beware though, it is demanding for the average reader. There are daily exercises that can take 20-30 minutes to do. These exercises are chalk full of great wisdom and insight, but for some it is a lot to do. I've read probably a hundred Christian books/workbooks, etc., and this one is definitely in my top 10, if not my top 5. I highly recommend it. If you're a teen, I'd use the teen version. It's great for everybody.

Are you at a crossroads in your faith journey? Do you feel like there has to be more to the relationship with God than you are experiencing but just don't know how to get there? Then this book can help you pick up from where you are and take your life on a journey with God that will not end until THIS life is over! I took this course with a group that had mixed results. Those of us that were "ripe" for the growth that come about as a result of an in-depth study used this bible study to teach us how to have a continuously growing relationship with God. Yes, there were a couple of things in the book that I didn't agree with, but I have never found a book that I agree with totally except the Bible. Because of this study, I have learned about God's healing love, and now are hungry every day to read and study my Bible, devotionals and other books. I pray and praise God constantly throughout my day. It is so sweet to go to sleep with a prayer on my lips and to wake with a praise song in my heart! I was truly a Type-A personality before this study, and have found such joy and peace in turning my life over to my Lord and Master. This book will not facilitate that, though, you have to be ready in your heart for it. I am allowing God to take my life and do with it as He will instead of wasting it on the ways of this world anymore. My husband and I are beginning a journey in prison ministries that we would have never gone on without this study or something similar to it. We don't know where the journey will take us, but look forward to the day that our God looks at us with love in His eyes, and calls us His "good and faithful servants". This one is it! Next to the Bible, this is the greatest book that I have ever read. This book helps the reader return the the real focus of the Christian Life, experiencing a relationship with Almighty God, learning to hear His voice through the Holy Spirit and learning to recognize the difference between God's voice and our own selfish will. This book is POWERFUL, LIFE-CHANGING, and FULL OF DEEP SPIRITUAL TRUTH! I have seen this book change the direction of several churches and bring REAL revival to the personal lives of many people.

I must say I was disappointed after reading this book. I have seen my own life and the lives of many church members transformed by Blackaby's "Experiencing God" material. Based upon the book jacket comments, I had hoped this volume would have similar significance for pastors particularly. I was mistaken.

First, the majority of this work is written not by Henry Blackaby, but by Henry Brandt. Blackaby follows Brandt's chapters, giving his own thoughts on the material Brandt has covered. Brandt is solid biblically and theologically, but he simply isn't Blackaby.

Second, the title of this book is misleading -- "God's Standards for Christian Leaders" would have been much more accurate. There are four sections presented by Brandt and Blackaby: God's standard for your calling, God's standard for your message, God's standard for your heart, and God's standard for your ministry.

Third, this volume does NOT focus upon the unique calling and experience of pastors. The book jacket states, "God Himself is the power in the pastor and the Christian leader's call! Pastors spend their days -- and often their nights -- ministering to others. But who ministers to pastors? God does!" The sections listed in the previous paragraph of this review are addressed to Christian leaders in general, not pastors in particular. While a few comments are made that focus on pastors, the vast majority of the content could apply to anyone serving in a Christian ministry.

This book isn't bad; it is just entirely different than the work described on its jacket. If you want a book written by Henry Brandt describing God's standards for Christian leaders in general, with comments interjected by Henry Blackaby, then buy this one. If you want a volume directed specifically to pastors describing the power of God's call to ministry, then look elsewhere.

I enjoyed this book because it was one of the three texts I was required to read for a course; however, it was the only one that presented a challenge to one's personal holiness.

The book discussed "the call", counseling others, our spiritual walk when things are going good and when encountering inconvenience and much worse things in life.

Brandt presents his views from the professional counselor, devoted layman's perspective while Blackaby gives his opinion from the viewpoint of the leader or preacher. Each intersperces their narrative with supporting scripture.

I found the book one to assure your humbleness. Some find the book "holier than thou" so warning, if you have a problem with someone telling you many of your problems come from yourself due to SIN, don't read it or you will be upset!

It is worth the read.

This book does exactly what the synopsis states by showing us "how God provides fully for every situation and need a pastor will face." The contributions by Henry Brandt on pastoral counseling were phenomenal. He clearly illustrates how the pastor is to use the Word of God in counseling. He states that the vast majority of people who come for counseling are suffering from the effects of sin in their lives. They need someone to gently show them from the Bible the root of their problems and God's cure. If you've ever struggled with counseling as a pastor I would suggest you read this book.
