Cardboard characters
I thought the writing was cliche-ridden and the characters were one-dimensional. I suggest Mr. Bishop read some Ridley Pearson or James Lee Burke to see how characters should be drawn. I will admit the plot idea was pretty good.

Great Title--Better Book
Being a Southern California-based mystery writer, I recently sat beside Paul Bishop during the first Men of Mystery Day in Orange County. During that hour or so, one person after another asked Mr. Bishop to sign TEQUILA MOCKINGBIRD, most praising the title. The book does have a great title, but it is also a fine mystery. The plot involves the murder of a member of LAPD's anti-terrorism unit, and Fey Croaker's search for the truth. The plot takes many unexpected twists and turns, and soon Fey is struggling to protect Los Angeles from an international terrorist attack. Paul Bishop is a pro, and TEQUILA MOCKINGBIRD is a top-notch book. There is much to savor in TEQUILA MOCKINGBIRD in addition to its clever title.

Bishop has once again done it.
Bishop's value has writier has hit the bull's eye with this one. As always, he speaks the truth about fiction. A great work by L.A.'s finest.

Easy to read, use as a control systems review.
This is a companion to "Modern Control Systems" by Dorf & Bishop. Much of the text of this book refers back to the "parent" text, and as such some sections of this text seem somewhat "incomplete". Easy to read, good as a stand-alone review of control systems. Not much on "modern control" (most of the book covers classical control). Not a whole lot of Simulink content, mainly Matlab functions used for specific topics. Good example systems.

Great MATLAB examples
The book contains valuable examples for classical control of SISO systems. Topics covered even include digital control and robust control.

When curiosities become art
With the relatively recent (80 years) recognition of folk art as a "legitimate" art form this book does a decent job of displaying and discussing some works. Since many of the artists are unknown or little is known about them the biographical information is limited. The authors relied primarily on the eastern part of the United States and hence there is an abundance of folk art missing . The folk art from the southwest, which is a part of the fabric of America is missing and leaves a void as a represenative snapshot of Americana. There are a few art token pictures, most notably of Simon Rodia's Watts Towers in the section on the The Folk Art Environment, which is the last chapter but for the most part there is very little ethnic folk art.The folk art that is represented ranges in media and subjest and style from abstract to prmitive. The furniture collection is along with the collection of oils and needle and loom work some of the best examples in their respective fields. My personal favorite sections were those that featured the sculptures of metalworkers and woodcarvers, especially the works of John Perates, Elijah Pierce and Miles Burkholder Carpenter. The accompanying text can be a bit tedious at times, especially if you are not that interested in that particular type of folk art. However, the pictures are excellent and more than compensate for any shortcoming the book may have. If you are into antiques or a collector of Americana than you will probably enjoy this book. For artists there are some inspirational works done long ago that are just now being recognized. The book also serves as an introduction to an artist that you may have not known about. This is especially useful for further research on the internet. Recommended for people that like folk art.

Good Photos, A lot of errors
Bob Dorr is a friend of mine and I respect his work, but there are a lot of errors in the text and captions in this book. The one good thing about it is that there are a lot of photographs. But don't expect to learn a lot about the details of the Vietnam War. It's worth the price for the photos alone but without them I'd give it a two.

Not once in all my university courses have I had a text that is this frustrating. It presents results without justification, it uses examples with no explanation, it weighs a ton and yet refers you to their website on every other page because the necessary material isn't even included in the book. If you have a university/college course that requires this text PLEASE do your whole campus a favor and tell the prof. to change to something else.

if I could give it zero stars, I would...
This is positively the worst university textbook I have ever used, in 5 years of engineering study. Normally I get good grades and understand the material very well, but utterly failed my control course the first time through. It wasn't till after flunking that I realized that this book was the source of all my headaches. Not only is it painfully boring to read, it is disorganized and doesn't give clear explanations. This @#(%& book had my head so twisted around that I totally lost interest in even trying to study the material because it became such a daunting task. My stomach would churn when I looked at this book. Yes, the material is difficult, but that makes this text all the more dangerous for presenting it in an extra-confusing manner.

Second time through the course, I started putting the pieces together with Schaum's, and another text from the library... now I view the subject from a totally different perspective. Control theory is very interesting and useful, but not if you get off on the wrong foot with it!

Avoid this book! If you already own it, do the world a favour and load it into the fireplace. If you're a university prof, I urge you... DO NOT use this text for your course, or your poor students will suffer as I did!

DO NOT BUY!!
Worst book i have ever read! All Theory No math behind the problems!
