AN AMAZING LOOK AT WOMEN's SUPPRESSED POTENTIAL.
I couldn't put this book down. As a life-long New York Democrat, I thought I was leading-edge sensitive to women's issues. But couched in one of the most exciting pieces of technology fiction I've ever read is a disturbing spiritual gem: Women could well be the intended solution to all the world's problems."

A Seriously Good Read
A good friend gave me a copy of the book. I was skeptical but the first page hooked me. Rick is the master of the high-tech action novel like King is the master of the thriller.

A hard-to-put-down thriller.
I never have time to read, given the pull of family and work responsibilities. But the storyline intrigued me, so I picked it up and started reading. It's a cross between Robert Ludlam and Stephen King -- and the fun part is that I fought off sleep every night so I could keep reading. I haven't had that much fun in a long while. When the story was done, I could say "Whew!" because now I could get back to regular sleeping hours. A great story, thought provoking and well-written.

necessary for students of the life of Gurdjieff
This one tells us much about Gurdjieff, and by the way, much about the kind of student he attracted, people like Bennett--who might be one of the most gullible men who ever lived (he was later duped out of his estate by some other even more phony guru, as documented in Madam Blavatsky's Baboon). For all his brilliance, even in old age G. was very crafty, manipulative and superstitious, as revealed here (he thought the caves at Lascaux were painted by Atlanteans!). Also, the quality of the Bennetts' writing really sets this apart from some other books in the genre; it is compulsively readable.

SUNDAY HOUSEWIFE
For those like me that spend every sunday beside your man watching the race this is the book that should be on the coffee table. I found so much information and facts in this book. I didn't have to ask so many questions as to why they do this or why they do that. This is a very fact filled, informative book on many legends of Nascar. A really great buy that will have all Nascar fans wanting more.

AN ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE!!!
What a great book! As a pug owner and lover I can tell you that this book is a joy to own! Any dog lover knows that pugs and their owners are definately unique...and Ms. Farr's interesting stories of both are fun to read again and again. The pictures are wonderful..from the charming to the very silly. I loved it!

Amazing-one of the best pug books around.
I found this book so amazing. I don't have a pug but I want one so much. I read so many pug books. This is very unique. I love it. If you love pugs or dogs this is a must. It was great, funny, informative, and so much more. I want a sequal or something!

Posh Pugs!
Nice book about and for people who pamper their Pugs. Not intended to be a "useful training tool" (I don't know where the reviewer below got the impression that it was supposed to be..!) but just a cute fluffy book about a select group of upscale NYC pugs and their eccentric owners. Photos and more info of "Pug Hill" in Central Park would have been nice (but perhaps too common?). Makes a good mini-coffee table book or x-mas gift for your uppity Pug pals.

Gurdjieff: making a new world

Serious and sincere elucidation by a humble seeker
Not a biography of Gurdjieff, but an elucidatory analysis on the development and significance of Gurdjieff's ideas and how they relate to the modern world. Bennett does his valiant best to wade through the obfuscation of Gurdjieff's teaching, to make it as clear as is humanly possible, without surrending his master's conviction that any struggle for insight can only come at a huge price both personally and spiritually. The book reveals volumes of obscure names, concepts and vocabulary, that will require intense study on the part of the reader, and sow the seeds of debate. Still I am not convinced that Gurdjieff was much more than a guy who read some esoteric books and had a bunch of unrelated bits of wisdom to proffer. For one thing, Bennett shows us that all of Gurdjieff's stories in Meetings With Remarkable Men were mere fables - fictional characters created by G. to get a point across. Learning this took a lot of the wind out my assumption that G. was some kind of well-travelled mystic seer. Nay, no real proof is ever given that G. ever studied with, or even visited the places inhabited by, those secret orders he professed to know about. Thus, the more I learn about him the less I trust anything which comes straight from his mouth, which is not the way to instill faith in a student. Bennett however is straightforward, his approach to teaching being more suited to how we in the West interpret our world. For that I can say that I learned a lot that I would never have gleaned from either G. or Ouspensky. Bennett fortunately gives us the meat and potatoes of the final "meaning of life" according to Gurdjieff, so to speak, probably the most valuable aspect of the book. In the end ironically, while G's philosophy has lost much of its charm (not because ignorance is bliss, but rather that the substance of his viewpoint is hard to swallow - and still leaves questions unanswered), Bennett's plight and search for insight have piqued my interest enough to want to explore his writing in more depth.

a must for those interested in Gurdjieff
This book offers well-researched background information on Gurdjieff and his ideas. A previous review indicated that this book either proves or strongly suggests that Gurdjieff's adventures as a "seeker" in the "Meetings" book were mere fantasy or fable. This excellent book by Bennett does not suggest this at all. But it does point out inconsistencies in terms of the specifics and does not hide the fact that exaggeration may have been employed in the retelling of Gurdjieff's travels. Overall: this is a well-written and thought provoking presentation of G.'s ideas, as well as the man himself.

Bennett's best
This book covers some theories about how Gurdjieff recieved his knowledge. Specifically from Naq'shabandi sufi orders, and Tibet.

My personal favourite from Bennett...as Bennett was chosen by Gurdjieff, as one of the few people who could realistically carry on the "work", and "initiate" others.

Systems of Cosmology and subtle Corporeity
John Bennet is one of a very small group of individuals who actually managed to 'get' some of what Gurdjieff was on about. In Deeper man he combines his insights into The Forth Way Tradition with his explorations of Sufism, Subud, and other Wisdom Traditions to present a number of independently valid systems or models of Cosmology and subtle Corporeity and their inter-relation(s).

Bennet, quite unlike many other commentators, never 'believes' in the models. He understands the functions and limitations of maps and mapmaking. If one comes away from a reading with no more than this one has spent one's money wisely.

Deeper man focuses on the nature of Participating in Reality rather than merely reacting to it.

The Wisdom of a Lifetime
There is such a vast amount of understanding offered here that one might easily read this book cover-to-cover nearly two dozen times and find fresh insight with each venture. I have. If there is any author that could communicate practical realities of the spiritual search and the work of transformation with Bennett's clarity and focus, I have never heard of him (and should very much like to). The theme of this book is the study of man -- that is, the worlds we inhabit both without and within, the various selves that can open us toward or restrict us from higher worlds or indeed, the higher parts of our own nature, the laws that consciously or unconsciously determine our behaviour, and the possibility of death and resurrection that we need to understand concretely if we are to be genuinely transformed. Permeated with the teaching of Gurdjieff, imbued with the influence of Sufism, this book speaks to that in us that yearns to journey toward a reality that transcends the limits of what our discursive reason can make sense of. It speaks FROM the life-long experience of a man who most certainly had journeyed far on that path himself. I treasure this book, though I recognize that it cannot likely be a popular one.

Animal Farm

A Satirical Fable
Animal Farm is the story of a revolution gone sour. Animalism, Orwell's take on Communism, is an illusion used by the pigs as a means of satisfying their lust for power. At the beginning of the book, Mr. Jones, the master of the farm, is irresponsible toward his animals, so old Major, a white boar, informs the other animals of the need to form a rebellion against Mr. Jones and the human race. The other animals embrace the idea of a revolution and develop a scheme to overthrow Mr. Jones. After the revolution is complete, the animals feel an immediate freedom, a set of commandments is developed for the new "Animal Farm," and they all begin working together for a common good. However, it does not take long for the new society to begin to corrupt. The satisfaction of removing Mr. Jones from the farm prevents the animals from noticing the politics still going on within the farm. The animals are convinced by those in power that their memory of the original utopia and commandments are false. So long as the animals cannot remember the past, because it is being continually altered, they will have no control over the present and future. George Orwell is making a great political statement in Animal Farm with specific emphasis on mass rebellion. It personifies Karl Marx's ideas for communism and illustrates what can happen after a revolution with specific attention to the fact that every society is political and contains "pigs" who will always grab for power. This satirical fable leaves the reader with a better understanding of communism and the anatomy of political revolution in any culture.

A lesson on equality and lies (and excess commentary)
The story Animal Farm is something that every person in the entire world should read. This simple tale of a group of animals, neglected, abused, enslaved, and put down, rising up against their hateful masters with the hopes of creating an egalitarian society was meant as a commentary on the state of the Soviet Union. The depiction created of a Communist society from its conception to its death is one of tyranny, deceit, distrust, and rivalry that destroys the pure intentions of the original revolutionaries. Though the depth of the underlying political commentary may be lost on people with no interest in the operation of the economy or the government, Animal Farm is a very accessible story with easy to understand lessons in morality, fairness, and honesty.

One note on the additional "filler" information added to this edition, it is both poorly written and uninteresting. While the life of George Orwell is interesting and something worth learning about, especially if you have aspirations towards being a socialist, the author of this section does such a poor job that reading tax codes in IRS publications is more interesting.

In summary, buy this book, read it, lend it to someone else, read it again, lend it to more people, read it again, and dream of a world of egalitarian communism. Or you can just read the story, enjoy the struggles and triumphs of the heroic animals, despise the greedy pigs, and share the experience with someone else.

Animal Farm
George Orwell's Animal Farm is a superb animation of the Russian Revolutioon. The book is amusing and interesting; it includes a comic element as it synonymously demonstrates the evolution from the proletariat revolution to a totalitarian government led by the swine of the society. Orwell successfully simplified the not-so-simple theory of class stratification and Karl Marx's proposed solution of communism. Orwell's method of conveyance is incredibly inventive. He uses satire in the form of a fairy tale to share his indignation for ideological doctrines that would, if allowed, lead to the eventual destruction of a society. Each character in the story is representative of someone who was involved in the Russian Revolution. Old Major is Marx, and inspires the proletariat revolution by motivating the over-worked animals and educating them on the ways of the human beings, who represent the bourgeoisie. Orwell's creativity convinces the reader that the animals on the farm are intellectual beings, revolting against the tyranny of the humans. Animal Farm offers itself as an example of a responsible criticism of Marxism. The story gives us a peek at the Utopian vision, and then offers a long look at what results from using a Marxist approach at achieving it. I strongly reccomend this book, as it is entertaining and educational. Orwell succeeded in creating a fairy tale that evokes both sadness and laughter, while causing us to feel sympathy and even empathy for the working class animals. The book escapes complexity, but its message does not.

Perfect Set for all phone readers ~~~Any experience level!
This set is a perfect set for all phone readers. From the newest on the phone lines to the most experienced! You can get somewhat flustered working the phone lines, no matter what your experience level is. This set of Tarot cards helps with that! You have all of the meanings right in front of you, ON THE CARD! This enables you to release the pressure and give better readings every time. I recommend this set to all of the phone readers I hire for PSYCHIC ENCOUNTERS, a Psychic Readers Network Contractor!

This is the best deck for beginners or phone readers.
I use this deck with my on-line Mystery School students. It works beautifully because the meanings are printed right on the cards. No fumbling thru the little booklet, frantically trying to associate meaning to picture. This helps your mind make that association all the quicker! And for folks who do telephone card readings for their clients, there is no other deck. If you get a brain cramp, again, the meaning suggestions, like a cue-card, are right there in front of you. The artwork isn't as pretty as some of the new decks, but that's because this one is based on the oldest existing deck, Marseilles, currently in a Museum in France. The minor arcana is primitive, too, but again it's a nice kind of primitive-ness harking back to the days when all students of the Tarot had to draw, paint and create their own Tarot decks. What a job that must have been. This deck's art looks like that---created by an everyday person, you or me. (Unless you're an artist, that is!) Yet, all the symbols and colors are accurate and visible. I recommend this deck to anyone who is self-conscious or worried about their skill. You can use this deck to do readings, even play poker or other card games with as you memorize the meanings and get a feel for the Tarot. Then you switch to a more artistic, more beautiful deck with no meanings anywhere in sight---except nicely stored in your mind's library!

I recommend this deck to all phone readers I hire.
I hire readers for PRN, the largest Reader Network out there and I ALWAYS recommend that they purchase this deck to use in their telephone readings. It's easy to use, there are no books to look through for meanings of the cards. It means alot to the callers when you are not stumbling through a book while trying to give a caller a good reading. In my years of experience with this type of work, I have also found that the meanings on the cards are extremely accurate. I definetely recommend this deck to anyone just learning the Tarot as well as for those who are already knowledgable in this area. Also, if you are thinking about getting into this type of telephone work, GET THIS DECK! You won't regret it.
