Needs an Update
As a nephrology fellow I found the concise tabular format in this book very useful and reassuring while beginning my consultation months. I still like the basic idea behind its publication, but am increasingly disappointed. Much of the dosing information is readily available now for free, and it is frequently more accessible on palmbased programs such as epocrates and medscape that avoid the need for carrying multiple pocket references. I would like to see the text regularly updated, go beyond data available in existing palm programs, such as including recommendations/cautions regarding drug combinations for transplant recipients, discuss intraperitoneal dosing for CAPD patients on relevant medications, include critical liver metabolism pathways (i.e. P450 enzymes systems) so interactions with other meds might be better predicted. I would enthusiastically support adding a palmtop version to the appropriately updated text.

Survival Source
After completing a residency in internal medicine/pediatrics and using many other sources to decide on renal drug dosing I have been most delighted with the introduction to this one at the beginning of my nephrology fellowship. The very rapid accessible concise format of key essentials I need for patients with temporary or chronic renal failure are also adjusted for types of renal replacement therapy. Only suggestion I have is: please update with new addition and more meds included as soon as possible. Wish I had known about this book from the first day of my internship.

A must have for clinicians!
Very helpful, quick reference for Physicians, Pharmacists and Nurses to determine possible effects of renal disease on drug disposition.

Great Photos
This book is full of great pictures of pool rooms past and present. Lots of room and player info. Very polished publication. Inetersting for those, like myself, interested in the sport and history. Not an instructional book; but definately worth the price and time to enjoy.

Into the Past
Written as a series of lectures by Bennett before Gurdjieff died in 1949, this is an interesting journey into the past as well as yet another lucid account of the essential principles of Gurdjieff's ideas about man from Bennett's pen. Compare this to a later set of Bennett's lectures recently reprinted as "Making a Soul" to see how Bennett's understanding of these themes by the mid-'50's. Then read his "Deeper Man" to see what a rich harvest his understanding had produced by the mid-'70's. Intoxicating stuff!

Who says history has to be boring?
I once read that, in addition to his unfortunate condition of porphyria, the mental effects of which became the basis for this screenplay, King George also had an anal fistula. Perhaps this explains his dyspeptic attitude toward the American colonies, since we were such a pain in the a__, and he already, as a result of the fistula, had plenty of them.

I also learned once that the French King, Louis XIV, used to hold court with his advisors and other notables while receiving his daily enema, thereby making him sort of a public "enema of the people." No wonder the French monarchy had so many problems.

It's amazing how much of history seems to relate to the proctological vagaries of its rulers. In George III's case, because of his unfortunate anal fistula, one could say it perhaps ultimately came down to a problem with the bottom of the man at the top.

Excellent book on a tough subject
When Bennett first wrote this book he was unable to complete the manuscript, so in effect, this book is not complete. Neverthless, it represents a good introduction to spiritual practice in the Gurdjieff tradition, and also one that transcends the Gurdjieff Work into a wider arena. It covers different kinds of work on oneself, including Struggle, the often misunderstood form - Sacrifice and the magic and mystery of Grace. I first read the book back in 1982, and I find myself referring to it over and over again, both for myself and my students.

Still just a piece of the picture
This book has been informative in that I have learned a great deal about the political and militaristic problems Washington endured during America's push for independence. I have a feeling that, without Washington's sacrifice, America as we know it probably wouldn't occur. However, I also think of the famous quote attributed to Napoleon that "History is the myth men choose to believe." While Thomas Paine wrote about independence for the colonies, he also tore into the concept of slavery as immoral, so it wasn't as if no one was talking about this issue. If Washington would have "stepped up" and abolished slavery then and there, so that all men (and women) were truly created equal, as I said before, America might not be here. It was a politically divided and bankrupt country. I don't consider those reasons justification for sacrificing another person's human rights. The racial problems we face today stem from a lack of identity stolen from a stolen people

who did much of the work to build this country in its early days and, while the opprtunity was there, given nothing in return. "Patriot Sage" is an excellent insight into many aspects of Washington's life of which I was ignorant (like his influence on the Constitutional Convention) Sadly, some of its essays are too right-wing, to the point of Clinton bashing. What modern era president could really live up to the accomplishments of the one who defined the job's parameters ? One essay focuses on the moral symbolism of Washington now devoid in today's presidents, while another openly admits he gambled and sought prostitutes. To be read overall with some perspective.
