Mr. Benedetti's poetry brings to life the word LOVE. Benedetti is able to reach down into the reader's subconscious and expose the most timid of feelings that one may be able to demonstrate towards a partner, a loved one or for that matter, one's nation. A true jewel.

I red Geografías, I'm from Uruguay, and i can say, it really shows the world about our way of living and how much our people suffered during a really hard time... It's great.. as all Benedetti's books!

La perfeción en las poesias de Benedetti se basa en su imperfeción. En cada poema, pereciera que esta buscando el poema perfecto. Oviamente no existe tal cosa como un poema perfecto, pero alrededor de ese punto inexistente esta Benedetti. Este libro recopila sus poemas del 85 al 92, que es cuando mas pulido esta Benedetti. oviamente sus poemas "clasicos" de mas peso estan en Inventario Uno pero Inventario Dos no le pide nada. Poemas mas optimistas y mas experimentales, mas reconcilados. Lo mejor de la literatura Latinoamericana en un libro, que no tien desperdicio.

Este libro reune mas de 200 haikus de Benedetti, abordando sus temas clasicos como el pueblo, el amor, las mujeres y el humor, y deja de lado, como aclara en la introducion, los temas clasicos de haikus. Cada haiku tiene 17 silabas y Benedetti se apego a esta regla de la forma mas estricta posible, lo que logra un efecto sonoro muy particular. Cada uno de las paginas con haikus logra llegar a la mente, al fondo de la razon individual, tal como Benedetti ha sabido hacer siempre. Una verdadera joya.

El momento ideal para recapacitar sobre nuestra vida, y nuestras acciones futuras, es el de nuestro cumpleaños. Benedetti nos cuenta las vicisitudes de un hombre en sus distintas edades, siempre en el día de su cumpleaños. Recorremos la infancia, la adolescencia, la juventud de Osvaldo Puente compatriota, reconociendo junto a él la decadencia de la sociedad, hasta que éste llega a su cumpleaños número 33 (edad de Cristo al ser crucificado), para comenzar su propia revolución, y unirse a la de los demás, desterrará o exiliará a ese espectador del mundo que fue Osvaldo Puente, y será ahora Juán Ángel, el Ángel que nos muestra que la lucha por la vida aún es posible.

Esta es una obra maestra, y no es casualidad que lo sea. Benedetti sabedor de su capasidad la hizo con todo la intención de tener ese resultado. Escribir un libro requiere tezon, un libro sobre revolución en el tiempo que lo escribio mas tezon, peroescribirlo en verso con unas metaforas de lujo es y solo puede ser obra de un maestro como Benedetti.

This book has an esy flow to it. Existentialism and the absurd are at the core of all these short stories. The strong political criticism, which are characteristic of his writing after the 80's, is not strong yet. These stories where written before the terrible military coup in Argentina and Uruguay, which would change Latin America's history forever. Easy to read. Words and sensations flow.I definitely prefer his later work.

Please, do not be fooled into thinking that these weak, hackneyed and uninteresting stories are the best that Uruguayan literature has to offer! Try instead the works of Juan Carlos Onetti, Eduardo Galeano or Horacio Quiroga, and do not waste your money into these overvalued and overpraised works that do not even provoke you into thinking.

It was the first Benedetti's book I've read and I found it amazing.
