Delightful illustrations and imaginative solution.
Good story line and delightful illustrations will make this book a popular storytime favorite. Shows how friendship grows and that problems can be solved by using your brains. Children would probably enjoy thinking up other adventures for Lila & Albert and their farmyard friends.

It is a very good book, which caters for young people
The book is about a boy, who is very alone and find some friends. There is an older boy, who always gives him water in his pants. As you reads it is lang time ago I have read the book, but it stands as the best book of my childhood. I just say "read it"

Cute story, lovely illustrations
I really like this book. The story is cute and endearing, though it would help to have read the earlier books in the series first. It mentions several characters from those books, though they are cameos and are not critical to the story. It also ends rather abruptly as if there should be one more page to give a feeling of closure. That said, it is an enjoyable book, and I even use it when teaching genetics to my seventh graders. The beak colors are a fun example of codominant gene alleles!

This story was first written by the brothers Grimm.
The story I read by the brothers Grim is a highly intricate tale revealing a profound problem, viz., that of identity crises, but written as a fairy tale it is a wonderful story which captivates the imagination of pre-teenagers, in the telling of it. The old witch involved in it was named Krauterweis, and not "Herbwise". I suspect that your book is a poor, adulterated copy of the elegant work I read so many years ago.

Zwerger's delicious sense of humor breathes life into Hauff
Lizbeth Zwerger's drawings are deceivingly spare and simple. When you actually take the time to obseve what she accomplishes with her work it's like discovering the brilliant subtlty of a Zen Garden with a dash of raw childhood thrown in. I have no doubt that when critics look back in years to come, she will be talked about as some who has trult MASTERED her craft. In this version of Hauff's story there are sorts of examples of her clever interpretations of the story. For example: when the spell of the goose is broken and she changed back in a woman, Zwerger rendering shows the woman stitting on a chair and her silluette is that of the goose! Brilliant.

Dwarf Nose is an excellent and inventive original fairy tale
Dwarf Nose captivated my young children. Wilhelm Hauff was a brilliant talented original fairy tale writer who was a contemporary of the Brothers Grimm. This book is an original fairy tale and not a "knock-off" It's possible that both authors were drawing from oral literature of the period. I thought it was engrossing, my kids loved it and Zwergers illustrations are fantastic

Eva's Cousin
Published in Hardcover by Thorndike Pr (Largeprint) (December, 2002)
Authors: Sibylle Knauss and Anthea Bell
Amazon base price: $28.95

If this book is a novel, why pretend everything is true?
Unfortunately, this novel drags along in the opening chapters. The reader becomes as bored as Marlene, Eva Braun's cousin, who visits Eva in Hitler's mountain retreat. Though the title offers promise as a glimpse of Hitler through the eyes of his lover, the story focuses on the day-to-day life of his mistress and nothing more. While other Germans suffer miserably, it is hard to identify with the spoiled Eva and her small circle of companions.

However, the story finally becomes interesting when Marlene supposedly hides a young boy who has escaped from a work camp. She becomes involved with a German officer who complicates her life. Marlene begins to learn the truth about the war by listening to an illegal radio that is eventually seized. These are the only interesting events in the entire novel.

As a reader I resented not knowing what was true and what the author fabricated. I would have preferred the truth.

Guilt through the shadows
This book was a pleasure to read. The language was masterfully crafted, a real tribute to both the author and the translator. The seduction of power in its many forms is considered by the protagonist who recognizes how those around her come under its sway but who, only in retrospect, sees its impact directly on her. As she progresses through the novel, she causes the reader to consider the essence of guilt and of shame and how they are tied together. In today's political climate, it is interesting to reflect on what the German populace knew during the World War II era and Knauss makes us reflect on that society's and our own society's responsibility for allowing cruel, totalitarian leaders to continue in power.

Three months after completing this book in our bookclub, we still find ourselves returning to this book as a point of departure for discussing our other readings.

Buy "Asterix and the Big Fight" instead
This is the film version of "Asterix and the Big Fight" -- buy that one, not this -- it's just a rehash.

A remarkable piece of work!
It is indeed an artist's creation.Based on the all time legendary hero Asterix and his faithfulfriend and companion Obelix, this book has more twists and turns than a bowlful of sphagette! When the old druid Getafix gets injured and cannot make health portion which gives the gauls superhuman strength, their chief is challanged by another chief. If Vitalstatistix loses, he would lose the whole village! However, when Vitalstatistix becomes assured that the druid has been revived, he literally knocks his opponent out of his boots! The determination of Asterix to revive the druid and his loyalty to the chief has left an indelible impression on my mind. Like in all the other Asterix books, the Gauls are fearless and powerful. They fear nothing except the sky falling on their heads. Cacofonix is as tuneless as ever, and Fulliautomatix the blacksmith too is as rough and funny as ever. Dogmatix(he cries when trees are cut) has his own charm, and Asterix has lived upto expectations, All this has been strung together to make an engrossing book. This book is fun, floric and totally hilarious! I read it a long time ago, but its memory still 'lingers on to the inward of my eye, and my heart with pleasure fills.' Given the form of a film book, it is truly an artist's creation.I highly recommend it.

Asterix and the Great Divide (Asterix Comic)

Somewhat dissapointing
First published in French in 1980 as 'Le Grand Fosse', this album was first published in English in 1981.

Chief Cleverdix sends his son Histrionix to the village by the sea, to call on the aid of Chief Vitalstatistix, to settle a dispute with his rival , Chief Majestix..
Asterix, Obelix and Getafix are as a result sent to the divided village.
This was the first book written by Uderzo alone, and is not one of the best. Much of the humour is recycled from earlier Astérix books, and the attempts at political satire are weak, unlike the superb political satire of 'Asterix and Caesar's Gift' for example. Uderzo would later prove that he could however, write, good Asterix comics, with such gems as 'Asterix and the Black Gold' and 'Asterix and The Magic Carpet'.

I wish I did not have to write this!
I love Asterix, I love French and Belgian comics. I grew up reading Tintin and Asterix and Lucky Luke and Spirou and the rest. But this adventure is terrible! Sorry M. Uderzo, I wish it was not so. Everytime I re-read this, I feel like I have read a horror story. Everything is so dark, Codfix is yucky, he is the worst character created. Of course, the death of a genius like Goscinny probably made his old friend very bitter. I give it a two because of the state of the art drawings. I put this one behind all others though. Who said Belgium was bad?

Excellent book!
This is one of the best Asterix books. In it, Asterix, Obelix, Getafix, and Dogmatix set off to help out another village troubled by a terrible internal division and threatened by the Romans. The reader will be delighted as the heroes of the story work to drive off the Romans, bring the village together, make a romance come true, and teach the villain of the story a good lesson, by Toutatis!
