this book is AWESOME. it's not abook that tells you where to put your lights or how to focus the camera, becuase, truly, isn't that up to us? if we want the subject out of focus we can do it. and it is ART. if you want ideas with out feel ing like you did something wrong if a light is out of place this book is for you! discusses special affects too, like filters, if you want to check that out.!

comments on Learning from the World's Best Central Bankers
excerpt from review by Governor John Crow:

"(The authors) have captured the essence of the issues confronting (central bankers) and there's enough variety of circumstance and treatment to propel the topic vigorously through the seven chapters

I've read a number of books about central banking written in recent years. Unlike those books, (this Work) deals with the real questions the policy-maker faces - in a way that a textbook cannot match."

Sweet Dreams, Sweet Princes
I read this a long time ago along with the companion edition, Joe Mauser. This story is the best idealistically written one-on-one combat story I have ever read. It sticks in my memory year after year. The idea of one man representing an entire country in decisive and final combat isn't here yet, but....

Road Map to Your Writing Career: Becoming a Fultime Freelance Writer
Published in Paperback by Writer (April, 2003)
Author: Michael A. Banks
Amazon base price: $11.87
List price: $16.95 (that's 30% off!)

Another good addition to Freelance Writing How-To Books
Mr. Banks has produced a fine how-to guide for anyone interested in the field of freelance writing. As with most books of this genre, he gives an honest, forthright evaluation of both the possibilities and the pitfalls of striking out on your own as a freelance writer.

The book deals with subjects such as finances for writers, dealing with the day-to-day routine of writing, and even has hints about what to do if your writing career doesn't go as far or as fast you'd like.

Although he does touch on other ways for a writer to pull in income, this book deals mainly with writing for publication. Writing for business is only mentioned as an additional way to make money but does not go into much detail as to how to get started in business/commercial writing.

Since commercial writing (writing for business and industry) is where the money is, and if you don't mind writing things that don't give you a byline, you may want to consider the "classics" on freelance writing by Bly or Bowerman in addition to or instead of this book.

However, this book is another fine introduction to the sometimes-difficult field of freeelance writing and you will benefit from it should you decide to buy it.

A straightforward and practical guide
How To Become A Fulltime Freelance Writer: A Practical Guide To Setting Up A Writing Business At Home by professional author Michael A. Banks is a straightforward and practical guide to earning a living by writing full-time. Individual chapters address the skills and character traits necessary to supporting oneself through writing, financial planning for writers, relationships with agents and editors, sources of extra income, and much, much more in this well-thought-out compendium that should be required reading for all aspiring writers who hope to establish themselves professionally.

Electronic Payment Systems (Artech House Computer Science Library)
Published in Hardcover by Artech House (June, 1997)
Authors: Donal O'Mahony, Michael Peirce, and Hitesh Tewari
Amazon base price: $73.00
Average review score:

Academics understand technology, not the business
I believe this book is a good technical study in the bits and bytes of how payment systems work, yet lacks the real-world applications, value propositions, and financial information on why some payment systems work, and many others are complete failures in the real world. Technology is only one segment of the payment arena.

excellent book
this book has gathered information about payment system as good as possible.I hope every one that like E_banking technology see this book!

To the point
For those who are seeking the alternative topologies in Electronic Payment systems this book is a very good starting point with some very good references as well. Gives a good insight on the mechanisms as well. One downside is that too much emphasis is put on maths for security related subject compared to the general aim and tone of the book.

The Death of Warren Baxter Earp : A Closer Look
Published in Hardcover by Talei Pub (27 October, 2000)
Authors: Michael M. Hickey, Leo W. Banks, and Richard Lapidus
Amazon base price: $59.95
Average review score:

Speculative conspiracy theory, not history
In this gargantuan volume, Michael Hickey presents a conspiracy theory in the aftermath of the death of Warren Earp (Wyatt's brother) that would perhaps do credit to a JFK assasination buff, but hardly qualifies as good history. To accept his conclusions, in my opinion, requires the reader to discard logic and common sense. There is a wealth of primary source material presented, and for that I will give the book two stars, but I do not advocate that anyone read this book in the expectation of learning the truth.

Another Trail of Vengeance for Wyatt Earp
Recent years have seen the emergence of someone who has proved to be a relentless pursuer of the truth, an historical researcher of the first order: Michael M. Hickey. In the early 1990s, Hickey published no less than three books looking in great detail at the thirty-second "O.K. Corral" gunfight and then, in 2000, produced a volume that has really given Earp historians something to think about. "The Death of Warren Baxter Earp: A Closer Look" puts forward the proposition that, subsequent to the shooting down of Wyatt's youngest brother, Warren, in an Arizona saloon in the summer of 1900, Wyatt went on yet another "trail of vengeance" and killed all those whom he held responsible.

This enormous book of 759 pages is the most exhaustively researched book yet on the doings of Wyatt Earp - and in an area of his life about which little is known. Aided by a small army of field investigators from all over the States, Hickey has come up with an extraordinary story which, if true, puts a whole new light on the character of Wyatt Earp. This is a truly fascinating read and is the sort of history we Earp enthusiasts want, packed full of primary source material, expertly, and entertainingly, edited.

David Ashford, England

One of the very good books on this subject
There have been numerous books published about Wyatt Earp and his brothers, "The Fighting Earps", over the years. A few of them are very good. Most of them are very bad; being either a repitition of the well-known facts or a distortion of them to present Earp in a particular way.

Michael M. Hickey's "The Death Of Warren Baxter Earp" is one of the very good books on this subject. Yes, of course, this massive (over seven hundred pages) work on the strange death of Wyatt's younger brother in 1900 can be labled a "conspiracy theory", but with such persuasive evidence it is an intriquing one. Hickey and his team of researchers have discovered an impressive amount of new information on a very familiar topic. All of this primary source material is reproduced on the page so that the reader can judge for themselves. Perhaps Wyatt Earp's vengance against his enemies did not end when he rode out of Arizona in 1882.

If you think you have read everything about Wyatt Earp then this fascinating and provocotive work about a little known part of his life will surprise you. Anyone with an interest in the Earp brothers, western lawmen and outlaws or justice (and the lack of it) in the old west will find this book hard to put down. It is highly recommended.
