at the palaces of knossos
This novel derives from a series of stories written byKazantzakis for a youth's magazine. The novel utilizes Kazantzakis'graceful style to add even more magic to this fantastic myth. In the beginning, a young traveler is found surveying the grounds of the Palace of Knossos, raising suspicions with security guards and catching the eye of the young princess Ariadne. The young traveller turns out to be Theseus, a prince who desires to free his people from the tyranical King. Included is the infamous minotaur and many greek gods. This novel remains interesting and exciting all throughout the story, and can be recommended to any age group. END

Nikos Kabbadias : In the pantheon of contemporay Greek poets
Nikos Kabbadias, one of the best examples contemporary Greek poetry has to show, was born in Harbin, Mantzouria in 1910 but he grew up in Greece. He worked almost all his life as a sailor. It is not to wonder his poetry is all about sailors and their relations with their country, the sea and women. His poems have all a confessionary tone as if the hero is thinking for himself. The wealthy marine vocabulary adds "salinity" to the poems. Sometimes humourous commenting women in different ports, other times tragic showing the struggle for life in sea, Kabbadias captures the reader's attention with his honesty and sharpness of mind. He is caustic, strongly criticising situations making the reader feel on his side, even if the hero is wrong. Self destruction is guiding the sailors life...so beautifully, delicately, roughly and realistically presented by the poet. He is definetely among the best marine poets ever existed. For the foreign readers (i.e. who cannot read Greek very well) I suggest they buy the "Glossary for Kabbadias poetry" by Giorgos Trapalis. The nautical glossary is particularly difficult, even for those whose mother tongue is Greek like me!

My daughter's favorite book
This book is my daughter, Emily's, favorite book. It has been a bedtime regular since she was 2.(she is now 6) The wonderful poetic pace increases the excitement as Emily's house becomes filled with animals and more and more noise. My children love making the animal noises and sharing in Emily's frustration. It is an excellent participatory book. I am now purchasing a new copy as ours has lost it's cover from so much use.

Dramatic Image from Balkan Peninsula
It is Nikos Economopoulos's drama, an excellent b/w scene performed by people from Balkan Peninsula, about their daily life, street, religion, at work, strike, etc.

Within the Balkan Peninsula, the borderline between countries is so blurred, where the mindset of people may be still not separable from their history. We can see uncountable traces of their history, where their struggle continues today.

In the beginning, I was attracted by the cover image, like a monster with children. The strong visuals are so dramatic, across the contenients of countries with no border.

Not even close to the Greeks
This book offers what most authors are afraid or fear to talk about into their books about cultural diversity. The reader has the ability to review who these people are and how the great mind of the author interpreted their social system, religion, customs. If one decides to take the long journey the author is suggesting in this book, he/she will not view people the same way he/she did in the past.

KLEEW
I happened upon this book and was delighted with the story of a gull and his family and the process of living life. When I read about the conditions under which this book was written, it came through as a gift meant for the author's children as well as a story of hope and goodness for the rest of us. The author was imprisioned for refusing to teach for the Nazi regime and was allowed only one letter per week. Within that letter to his family, he enclosed a page for his children. Those pages became the story, Kleew. I treasure it.

Novel Theology: Nikos Kazantzakis's Encounter With Whiteheadian Process Theism
Published in Hardcover by Mercer University Press (November, 2000)
Author: Darren J. N. Middleton
Amazon base price: $39.95
Average review score:

Literature and theology deconstructing each other
In Novel Theology: Nikos Kazantzakis's Encounter With Whiteheadian Process Theism, Darren Middleton employs the narrative fiction of Kazantzakis and the process thought of Alfred North Whitehead to reveal a common philosophy that shaped both Kazantzakis's and Whitehead's understanding of God through texts of their literature and theology. By comparing specific themes in the novels by Kazantzakis and the works of Whiteheadian process theologians, Middleton reveals that the literature and theology constantly deconstruct each other and suggests that this deconstructive assignment is one that is, itself, a process. Novel Theology is insightful, thought-provoking reading and highly recommended for students and scholars of literature and theology, and the non-specialist general reader with an interest in the works of Nikos Kazantzakis, the philosophy of Alfred North Whitehead, and process thought as found in theology and literature.

Journey into Spanish history
Kazantzakis's nonfiction writings of his travels through Spain make for a truly remarkable journey. The reader learns about the history of famous figures and events in various smaller cities of Spain which are not addressed by today's tourist agendas. He also addresses the development and figures he met at the outset of the Spanish Civil War. This is an excellent read. This is one of the few books I plan to reread several times over. It introduces aspects of Spain which otherwise go unnoticed by foreigners.
