Fast paced, very creative Science Fiction for preteens
I have always had a hard time finding books for boys between the ages of 8 - 12 years of age. Journey to Terezor is a winner! This creative Science Fiction book is hard to put down. Frank Asch really knows how to reach children of many different age groups. His sense of adventure is always exciting. I sure wish he would write more for the preteen group. Pearl's Promise is another must read for children.

twisted and beautiful psychedelic children's book
this is not the type of book your would buy for the child of your p.c. sister-in-law. but it's one of the only books i remember as truly great from my formative years, and it's only grown better as i've aged. you can search the tighly packed illustrations for hours and still find something new the next time you look. it's got dark themes, but i don't remember having problems with that when i was young. instead, i read it now, and marvel at how little and how much of the rich content i understood. it's immediately obvious - the man must have been on a lot of drugs when he made this book - one look at the copyright date pretty much confirms your suspicions. *whatever* he was on, the result is gratifying. but if you agree with those who want to shut all mapplethorpe and nine inch nails in a box somewhere, don't bother. trust me, you're glad it's out of print.

Love this book! What a pity it's out of print!
My daughter and I love to read this book together. It's simple and yet has a powerful message. Too bad it's out of print. I'm shocked to find that a used copy of this simple book is $[price]...I guess it's the effect of supply and demand.

Another Wonderful Frank Asch readable!
I teach three year olds at a Day Care Center and Frank Asch is right up there with Eric Carle! My little ones sit enthralled as they listen and watch and then they LOVE discussing what happened! They LOVED they idea of wrecking the house yet some of them kept saying that "it isn't a dream"! The simplicity and honest childlike desires makes this another Frank Asch masterpiece! They still demand hearing HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOON every week! You can't go wrong with ANYTHING by Frank Asch!

Moonbear's Friend
Lovely, funny book. When our 15-month old son first the illustration of Moonbear eating honey, he stuck out his own tongue and laughed. He has since learned to "play the banjo" like Mooonbear. Asch's illustrations and colors are simple and appealing.

62 Fourth Grade Thumbs Up!
LOVE IT! My fourth graders and I embark on a lengthy study ofthe Everglades each year and to my surprise when I went book huntingthis year I found this extraordinary resource. This book offers so many opportunities academically, aesthetically, and otherwise. My children and I could not wait to share the next poem in our literature circles....they were disappointed when we finished it! The pictures are gorgeous and we especially enjoyed reading the notes the author includes about each poem at the end of the book. This is a must have book for any nature lover!

I loved reading this book to my boys when they were little. We followed Starbabies adventure to find his home...we nibbled on stars, jumped from star to star, swam in the ocean etc. and had a wonderful time. My boys loved that Starbaby was a naked little boy!

Good for many levels!
I originally bought this book for my children when they were toddlers. They loved it and we practically wore it out. "That's what a wise turtle would do" became a slogan around our house meaning that you need not go to extreme positions, but should compromise ("But then again, maybe it's best if I keep my head out sometimes and sometimes pull it in."
I am a university administrator and started using the expression around my faculty to explain stubborn people who had a hard time adapting to changes in their environment. We even share it with our MBA students in a Management class.
Too bad it is out of print. If you can find it, you'll love it.

A very cute story about giving and friendships.
This is a good story about a bear who wants to give the moon a birthday present. He goes all over trying to find a spot where the moon can hear him. Finally he reaches some mountains. When he yells out at the moon he thinks the moon replies back but really it's just his echo. So when Bear yells out that he wants a hat for his birthday, it echos back and Bear thinks that is what the moon wants too. Bear goes out and buys the hat and sets it on the top of the tree. The next morning Bear finds the hat which was blown down from the tree on his doorstep and thinks that the moon got it for him for his birthday. I think this book is a really cute book for kids to read or even parents to read to there kids. It will teach them about friendships and giving. In the end the hat blows away and Bear cannot find it. He tells the moon and the moon of course says the same thing back. Bear then tells the moon that he still loves him , which the moon then says to Bear. So another thing that the story shows is that it's not about the gift that they got each other but the thought of it.
A Charming Book
Happy Birthay, Moon is a great book. I loved the illustrations and the way the author descibes his character.
The main character, the bear, is a great and cute little guy. He has this thing about talking to the moon. Unfortunately the moon doesn't answer him, so he tries harder for the moon to hear him. When he was in the mountains the bear's voice echoed back to him, and he thought the moon was the one talking to him.
This book is wonderful in its descriptions. You will have to read it for youself to find out why they call it "Happy Birthday, Moon."

Happy Birthday, Moon Review
If all books could leave you with such a "warm and fuzzy" feeling in your heart! I'd like to comment on "Happy Birthday, Moon" by Frank Asch. A little bear wants to give the moon a birthday present, but before he does, he needs to find out what the moon wants. He then makes the journey across the river, hikes through the woods, and up into the mountains. The little bear feels that the closer he is to the moon, the better the moon can hear him. The little bear begins to talk with the moon by interpreting the moon's response through his own echo. Eventually, he buys the moon a hat, because that's what the little bear said he wanted...(so of course, that's what the moon wanted too!) This adorable children's fantasy is beautifully illustrated using simple illustrations with soft, rounded edges. The illustrations are accurate and correspond nicely with the content of the story. The calm mood of the night time is warmly displayed throughout the story. This book enhances the characterizations and avoids stereotypes of race and sex. I think this book should be read to children of all ages because it's theme is appealing and extremely worthwhile. It shows you about friendship, sharing, caring, forgiveness, and how making an effort to make someone else happy, can make you just as happy! I feel the author's style is very appropriate for children aged from zero to ...well...thirty-two! I'm still a kid a heart and absolutely loved it! I'm also a future teacher and love the content of this heartfelt story. This book fulfills a beautiful harmony of text, illustration, format and typography. I'm sure anyone would truly enjoy this wonderful little book about friendship, selflessness and love.
