Packs in anecdotes, diagrams, and plenty of history
Susan and Steven Willis' Astronomy: Looking At The Stars provides a history of the science, showing how early astronomers created the foundations for theories and changed their fields. From Copernicus' discoveries about the motion of planets to Tycho Brahe's introduction of astronomical investigative methods, this packs in anecdotes, diagrams, and plenty of history.

Great resource for Cleopatra
If pressed, I'd almost say that this is the single best book on Cleopatra. Granted, there are critical biographies, historical accounts, and all sorts of other sources, but this massive book is unique in that it shows nearly every sculpture, coin, or papyrus that can be tied directly to Egypt's last independent ruler. Its fascinating to finally see how Cleopatra presented herself to her subjects -- in traditional Egyptian style for the local population, in Greek style to the Greco-Roman world at large. It's also sobering to see how little remains of her reign. The Romans went after her Greek-style statues, but since they didn't understand Egyptian art, many works of art in that style survive. Besides the impressive visuals, the book includes important essays on many different parts of Cleopatra's reign, life in Alexandria, and the legends that have swirled around Cleopatra after her death. A good comprehensive look at this famous queen, scholarly and readable. But boy, those visuals...!

An uplifting, empowering book.
I have read this book several times and I always find it encouraging, empowering, and uplifting. The authors interview many women who have given up on, lost, or never sought the traditional route of husband-and-2.3 children. In spite of societal pressures and expectations, these women lead happy, fulfilling, satisfied lives. Some have found ways to have children and/or a significant other in their lives without the framework of a traditional marriage, and some have not -- but none of them have become the bitter, twisted "spinsters" our society would seem to expect them to be. I found this book to be an inspiration, and I think ALL women should read it; even if you're not "flying solo" now, you might find yourself doing so at some point in the future. This book can show you how to do it -- and even how to enjoy it!

A Life-Saving Book Every Woman Should Read
It's NOT All In Your Head is most definetely one of the most helpful books I've ever read. So often, women's symptoms get played down. They will go to the doctor and their illnesses will be misdiagnosed, passed off as something that's all "in their head", or just plain ignored. It seems this book was written to combat that very thing. The authors of this book really get to the heart of diseases that are often misdiagnosed, aiding women in discovering the identity of what ails them. I strongly recommend this book to any woman, it truly can save a life.

Buy the Whole Series
I own Anderson's entire Family Living in Pastoral Perspective series (Leaving Home, Becoming Married, Regarding Children, Promising Again, and Living Alone), and I refer to them frequently.

Each book focuses on a different transitional event and the family tasks that event brings into focus. Anderson and his co-authors deal sensitively with the pastoral issues involved.

The books are well-written and easy to read--no convoluted prose to parse here. The works have added texture from the many personal examples shared by the authors (both their own and examples others have shared with them).

Every book in the series deserves an honored place on any religious professional's shelf. Except, you may find them so valuable they rarely make it back to your shelf.

A great gift
This is a great gift for weddings, baptisms or even house warmings. It's idea for younger families that may not know the traditional Catholic prayers or understand importance of praying as a family.

We have given a number of these away as gifts and the feedback is always very positive.

Fantastic Prayer Reference Book!
A Prayer Book for Catholic Families is a fantastic prayer reference book for any Catholic. I am a cradle catholic but my parents left the church when I was around 10yrs. So I never received the sacrament of confirmation. Now that I am out of college and married, I decided to return to the church. My memory on alot of the prayers was kind of fuzzy, so this book has helped me alot. In september I am going through the RCIA so I can finally be confirmed. This book, along with several others, are helping me to return to my heritage. The prayers are laid out in an easy to find format and they are in very large print. This book would also make a great small gift.

A Great Companion
I love this little book. It is ideal for cradle catholics and new alike. Its' text is easy to read and understand. It does not have to be read cover to cover thus making it a great little reference or resource book and also a book to look to for comfort.

This book was the salvation of my accounting class...
My accounting professor was awful and it was this book that saved my grade in the class. It provides very detailed explanations and summaries of each concept it covers throughout the chapter, not just at the end of the section. The accompanying working papers and study guide were also very informative and helpful.

This a teacher and student choice!
Best book so far for teahing accounting. This is the book for learning accounting.

The Journey from Abandonment to Healing
Susan is an abandonment "survivor" as well as a therapist her insights are key to the success of this book. The message is clear, and the excersies helpful. The reader reachs a fullness and happiness within their lives by reaching out to the key player, themselves.

I have read many books over the last year to heal my emotional wounds. This book picks up where all the others left off. The material is helpful, eye opening and the awareness level of the reader is blown wide open.

My reaction was "WOW!" she is speaking to me.

A manual for my break-up crisis
I had a breakup that left me such a basket case for so long that I knew I needed help, so I ordered this book.

This book explained every single thing I was going through.... even the really crazy stuff... like how when I'd see him my heart would race and my hands would shake even though I knew he wasn't going to actually DO anything to me.

The way this guy broke up with me.... he asked me to meet him, for what I thought was a date, and ambushed me by breaking up with me publically in front of her and a lot of other people.

Your book explained to me that I didn't just FEEL like I was ambushed and/or attacked... but I physically reacted that way too. which is why every time I see them together, my body reacts as if it were in danger.

It helped me so much just to be able to understand why I was acting what seemed to be so crazy!

The exercises helped so much too. As I read it, I noticed myself moving through the stages just as described... and as I did the exercises... I started to get the distinct impression that I actually was healing afterall.

This book has been my manual for getting through this crisis... and hopefully finally working out my feelings and issues regarding all the previous ones too. So they might not come back to haunt me again.

When I hit the RAGE stage last week, I may have thought I'd gone insane to suddenly be so angry. But I knew, when I saw it, because it was in the book, that it was me healing... I tried to listen to the advice in the book, do the exercises, and use my anger in productive ways, and know that I'm on the right path because this book is a really good guide.

It will comfort you through the tough times, and help guide you to where you need to go when you're ready to move on through each next stage to healing.

I am happy to be able to see things in this new light.
I feel like this book has given me my sanity back.
Or maybe shown me that I really did have it all along afterall.

Full of pain, try this book for relief
It really does hurt, antidepressants do help, but somehow the pain is always there. You might need to read this wonderful book to understand why you are hurting. Susan Anderson did an exceptional job with this book. It seemed as if she was actually standing next to me in my last 2+ years of HELL. If you think there is no hope, please take the chance and read this book. Good Luck

Doc Susie: The True Story of a Country Physician in the Colorado Rockies

History brought to life through well chosen words.
The reader feels the cold, the isolation geographically and as a woman entering a "man's" profession. Cornell's way with words draw us into a world little known to most of us, but one that expresses the hardiness of women in particular and Americans in general. Well researched and well written. It's not difficult to see that the author of Doc Susie had a passion for exposing Doc Susie's true grit, compassion and adventuresome spirit.

Excellent narrative of 1800's Western U.S. female doctor.
The story covers the trials and tribulations of a single female doctor coping with the hardships of living in the western U.S. in the late 1800's. The medical & daily language used is authentic and reminiscent of that period. Very easy reading filled with heart warming experiences. The story is based on the life of a true pioneer woman Dr. Susan Anderson struggling for acceptance in the harsh environment of the lumber camps, gold mines and railroad towns of the Rockies.

"Doc Susie"
Doc susie was a very good book. I enjoyey how Susan Anderson made her dreams possible.
