Excellent for toddlers!
I am a bilingual storyteller and was introduced to this book through my job. The illustrations are good, portraying a young boy as he goes on a walk and all the animals he comes across. The children I've read this book to love to guess what animal they will be seeing next by using the pictures. I would recommend this book to parents with small children. You can do so much with it!

Wonderful!
I thought this was a wonderful book with a slightly different approach to the parable of the Shepherd and His lost sheep. It shows the love of the shepherd for his sheep and what he will do to keep them safe. This has wonderful symbolism of a parent's love for their child and the Savior's love for us. The illustrations are beautiful and brings back some memories of a time I spent in the Colorado Plateau. I enjoyed it so much that I plan to buy one for each of my nephews.

This is a charming story that is perfect for any lower elementary classroom. It is beautifully written and illustrated. I have taught first grade for five years and used this book every year. I am always coming up with new lessons for it and the children love it!! The words just flow like music and my students love to read it again and again!!! Alma Flor Ada is a brilliant children's author!

An entertaining, informative book for young children.
This is a pop up book that is both entertaining and informative. This book gives the child excellent clues to the identity of different animals. You can stop after each clue and see if the child can identify the animal. When the child finally does identify the animal you unfold the page and out of it's egg pops the animal. While being entertained the children learn about the animals habitat, habits, looks, etc. I highly recommend this book for parents and teachers. I used it with my kindergarten class when I taught a unit on animals that hatch from eggs. The children loved it as much as I did! Our only objection is it is not long enough. It leaves you wanting more.

It is a good book to read to your class.
This book is about a little girl named Maria Isabel. She came from Puerto Rico. There were two girls named Maria in her class so her teacher called her Mary. When her teacher called her Mary she didn't pay attention. Her teacher got mad and she wouldn't let her be in the play. Maria tells her parents that she is going to be in the play. What will her parents say when they don't find her in the play? Will Maria still get in trouble? I like the book because it has a happy ending. The author is trying to tell us that if you have a wish and you believe it,it may come true.

Super Story for Teachers
I read this book in college as a part of a book club required by the school. I loved this book as soon as I read it. It can teach teachers how to be culturally sensative to all their students. A name is a very important possession to most of us. It is an only possession to some children. It is also good for those teachers who are stuck thinking that children "should just learn our language" when in reality it is a long process. I would like to recommend this book to those who are teaching children ESL and those regular classroom teachers who have ESL students in their rooms. I loved it!

This book is good to read with your family.
This book is about a girl named Maria Isabel that came to the United States from Puerto Rico to a new school. She doesn't like her class because there are two Marias so her teacher calls her Mary. That name gets her in trouble because Maria thinks that the teacher is calling on someone else. The teacher gets mad and Maria can't be in the play. She gets to write about her greatest wish. What will her wish be? I liked this book because it was cool and fun. It was cool because I liked Maria's imagination. She said a trash can full of snow looked like an enchanted tunnel. I think what the author is trying to tell you is that teachers should call you by your real name, not the name that they want to call you.

Simple, but not too clear.
The words and story in this book are simple. Field Mouse wants a friend, but cannot find one. Then one day he meets Frog. Field Mouse likes Frog, but feels Frog wouldn't want to be his friend because she can sing, jump, and swim. However, Field Mouse learns that she has valuable talents, too. The underlying message of the book is that we all have gifts, even the smallest and meekest among us. The message is a good one, but it isn't presented too clear. The Aesop fable about the Lion and Mouse is a much better tale. Still, really young children will like the book, even if just to look at the spectacular illustrations.

Friend Frog
This book teaches children to recognize their own talents, appreciate the talents of others, and to recognize that friends can come from very different backgrounds. A great book to use in the classroom on many levels.

from a childrens lit student
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! i'm currently enrolled in a children's literature class as a sophomore in college. This was one of the books I picked up to read as part of our assignment. I love the illustrations, the prose, and the message that this book is trying to convey. Whether you are a mother or father that works the graveyard shift or a stay at home parent, this book can be enjoyed by all!

A Chorus of Cultures
What a nice book this is! "A Chorus of Cultures" has hundreds of multicultural poems and activities that will greatly enhance a primary classroom's literacy program. The book is organized by months, making it easy to plan and incorporate the poetry into your daily activities. It also has several indexes to help locate poems. Some of the poems are too difficult for the younger children, and I found myself having to explain some of the poems to my first graders, but it is easy enough to pick and choose what to use. I found the "Developing Literacy" activities most helpful, and the book includes poems written by children, which greatly impressed my students!
