STRENGTH TRAINING FOR GRANNIES?
This is book really is about toning not for bodybuilders ( esspecially young ones) i think that a young bodybuilder should read magazines and go to a gym to find a routine that could suit ones self, this book gives you little knowledge on why the exercises should be performed.
all in all , save your money ,i wish i could get mine back! :)
Nice reference and clear instruction
I am a fight trainer and I train athletes to compete in full contact and mixed martial arts style fights. I do have some young people that come to me for training. They are between the ages of 12 and 16 and obviously their training must be done differently than a full grown advanced athlete. This book gave me some direction and acknowledges many myths about youths training with weights. It is not a book for body building. Children should not be trying to "bodybuild". This is training for "strength and power".
Great for Parents, Coaches and the Motivated Young Athlete
Great sourcebook for young athletes, coaches and parents that debunks the myths associated with physical fitness for children. Provides great guidance to help children safely improve their performance while also helping to prevent injury. A wise investment for the serious young athlete. Recommended by the renowned sports orthopedic practice at Boston's Children's Hospital. Written for adults but readable by children.

Excellent!
This is a wonderful book that all young people should definately read. Although it may not be the easiest writing, etc, our country was founded by the people who wrote the book. We, as Americans, should listen to what they have to say. For, I am sure, we would be no where without them.
Spectacular
Bennett's take on the personalities of the men and women that birthed this nation is compelling and rewarding. He pulls selected writings from a variety of sources, and his choices are at times very un-politically correct. For instance, one passage by Hamilton details the regret and angst that plagued him in his last hours before his ill-fated duel. Other passages hi-lite the nobility and bravery that many exhibited in the most trying of times. The cast of characters is complete: Adams and his wife, Washington, Jefferson, Hamilton, Lafayette, etc. This book in fact does what other books for young adults only pretend - treating young minds as capable and inquisitive and able to handle a harsh reality. In all, a thought-provoking book with good commentary by the editor.

Hey! This poor book has no index.
The book is *so* interesting. Full of good information and great pictures. But where is the index that let's us find our way through all that material? What a shame. Without an index the book let's me down. I can only give it 1 star.
a good all around book
It is a very good book on what it is like to be a Midshipman but especially a plebe. I have family that went to the Academy and told me how close the book was to the actual thing.

Not a good example of history for students
While the language isn't boring the the ideas are great in Youngs second edition of this biography, I am not happy at all that my students have been assigned this book to read in a linked course. I teach a study and learning skills course linked to an American history course at a university in the USA and this biography must be read by the students. With all the time spent in the colleges and universities and now in the media about how historians need to cite their sources, this biography is a sad and sorry example. Nothing is cited, even the direct quotes have no citations! Yes, Youngs does discuss his sources at the end of the book but that is not the same as giving credit to the sources where he drew his quotations and facts from. The publisher, Longman, should be ashamed for allowing such poorly cited scholarship to be printed for used in either courses or the general public. I would have given this 1 star but the writing is engaging.
Good Overview But For Depth Look Elsewhere
Youngs's biography is an average attempt to describe this great woman's life and I do not mean "average" in a derogatory sense. This book hits all the main points of Eleanor's life and accomplishments from before her birth up to her death. It remains objective throughout most of the book but Youngs does not bring any enthusiasm to the womans life. The few times when Youngs voice seems to be asserting itself, it is to criticize Eleanor. One example is when Youngs insinuates that Eleanor's work in the NYC skids was just a rich girl trying to slum. Youngs made it seem like Eleanor never cared about the poor because she could never truly know them. He may have a point, but he did not use that same emotion when he was describing Eleanor's work as First Lady during the Great Depression. I would have liked to seen a little more energy from Youngs but I cannot complain about the information in his book. For those of you wanting a good, fairly objective, overview of Eleanor's life, Youngs book is just for you. For those who like their biographer to throw their two cents into the book you might want to look elsewhere.

the electromagnetodynamics of fluids
I think this is a very interesting book, I 'm a student and this is the first time, I read a book about this theme, but I consider that this book expain very well the inflence of the electromagnetic fields applied to the fluids and to the plasmas, and explain the relation of the Maxwell's equations to the kinematics of the fluids, and the Nevier-Stokes equations, nevertheless I think that for a new reader about this theme, must check first some others books about electromagnetics.

Want a quick run-through of ED facts?
This book may not be as unique as others in the "Recall" series but is still worth getting. If you have Surgical or Medicine Recall", many facts in this book are repetitions. But there is no point buying a huge comprehensive text if you're not going to read it. With this concise book that highlights what is most important, I have learnt more than many of my larger texts. It is very enjoyable to read and there is no need to scribble your own summaries.

Not enough examples. Explanations not clear.
This book frustrated me incredibly during the one year period i had to use it in my schools Algebra class. This book assumes a lot of unexplained math vocabulary as well as insufficient examples in each chapter. If you are someone who learns primarily from examples and sample problems this book will definetely not fit your needs. There is usually one example for each type of problem in the lesson and it is impossible to practice your learning of that problem because in the homework (that includes answers) there is also usually one problem relating to that specific type of problem. I don't know if what i am saying is making sense but DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK unless you enjoy books with no detailed examples, advanced explanations of concepts you have probably never learned, and boring real world connections. After using this book at my school i checked out a few other books and have found that i really enjoy Algebra when i can actually understand it and apply my skills. I think the book is a major deciding point in a students grades. I think more schools should focus on down to earth, but still informative books and maybe then they would see more effort applied to difficult concepts.
Buy A Different Book
When I write this review, I am really referring to both volumes of the Algebra 1 series. I am a college engineering student and just completed my fourth calculus course. For the past year I have tried to help my younger brother in his Algebra class because this book didn't help at all. Examples are insufficient and the book and tests are riddled with errors. The teacher had to work out all the problems because there were so many mistakes that he could not trust his answer key. A sample of this book's terrible teaching method can be seen when it expects students to use the discriminant to find the nature of the roots for a quadratic equation. It simply has students complete a table in problem number 44 or something and then expects students to be able to tell from the results what the nature of roots for a quadratic equation are on a quiz. Few students succeeded in accomplishing this. In the chapter discussing radicals, the definition of a perfect square is never mentioned! Also students are told to tell the difference between rational and irrational roots by looking at their calculator display. Perhaps if you only use this book as a source for problems, it might be OK. But it is nearly impossible to try and learn something from this book which seems to be fixated on providing pretty graphics instead of relevant examples. My advice: Buy some other Algebra book. It is not possible to put too much effort into the search for a good algebra book because algebra is really the language of science and engineering that needs to become second nature. I haven't seen them myself, but I have heard good things about Algebra 1 by Paul A. Foerster as well as Algebra: Structure and Method by Richard G. Brown, Mary P. Dolciani, Robert H. Sorgenfrey, et. al. You might want to take a look at these books.
A pretty helpful book
I bought this book looking for some self help in the subject of Algebra,It's pretty good except that it does not give all the answers to all the questions, they only do a selected amount of answers, this is really trickey if you don't have an instructor to guide you.I would recommened this book to a person who just wants a review in algebra,I would give it a 5 star rating for that use,but only a 3 star rating for self help.

First introduced to the Western world in the eighteenth century, these stories have attained great popularity, and been retold many times, with "Aladdin" even being made into a Disney film. This collection features only a small selection of the best and most popular tales. Unlike many editions, it doesn't reflect the contemporary versions of the stories, but seeks to be faithful to the authentic Arabic sources. N.J. Dawood is well-equipped to retell these stories from the original Arabic. Born in Baghdad, Dawood attained a reputation as a scholar and received a university education in London. Amongst other projects he has translated "The Koran" and a complete collection of "Tales from the Thousand and One Nights."
Because this version intends to be faithful to the original Arabic, readers should not expect a sanitized Western interpretation. If you are looking for a fresh style that brings these stories to life for children in a modern Western audience, this is likely not the edition for you. These stories are unashamedly Arabic in character, and the religious aspect (Islam) is dominant throughout, where health and wealth, wine and women are bestowed as the blessing of Allah for obedience. But despite this, these stories continue to capture the Western imagination. Expect to read stories about powerful genies (jinees), magical lamps, talking animals, distant voyages, and impossible adventures.
This volume (a companion to "Aladdin and Other Tales from The Arabian Nights") contains the well-known stories of the seven voyages of "Sinbad the Sailor", and "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves". Also represented are the lesser-known but equally fascinating "Tale of the Hunchback" and "The Barber of Baghdad". A great opportunity to read stories that have stood the test of time in another culture - these are classics, and make a good introduction to the original cultural flavour of "Tales from the Arabian Nights"!
