Each procedure is conveyed in a logical sequence beginning with the basic concepts and proceeding to more advanced themes, so that learning HTML becomes effortless. This method of visually imparting knowledge eliminates the problem of having to leaf through several pages to find the screen shot that relates to the instructions, along with the frustration of having to re-read the same paragraph many times in order to grasp the main point.
There is a detachable page at the beginning of the book containing a hexadecimal value colour chart with sample colours that can be applied to enhance the appearance of a page, and for easy reference, a comprehensive summary of all the HTML tags used in the course and their functions are given at the end of the book. In addition to the basic HTML tags, this impressive book also covers such areas as resizing images, creating tables, frames, adding sound and video, image maps, java applets and many more features that will allow you to easily create and publish professional looking web pages.
This pictorial, self-teaching 'tutor' is just what any beginner or advanced student needs to benefit from the exciting domain of web page design.
A must for the beginner!

Both Holldobler and Wilson, who have a strong background in ant studies, have outdone themselves. In this book you can learn about virtually any aspects concerning ants, from their anatomy to their classification and more. And besides this, the book also teaches a lot of things not only related to ants but more general, like evolution and kin selection (applied not only to ants but also to eusocial insects). Learning so much about the ants makes you change your viewpoint about this little animal and makes you think about how incredible nature (or God) is to create such beautiful, incredible animals.

Making us aware of our responsibility to cherish life, to handle it tenderly and respectfully, for our own sake and for the benefit of our children, is its clear intent.
I discovered this book on my parents' bookshelf at the age of six. It was my introduction to the world, as expressed through the images of others. Thanks to The Family of Man, I began to understand the vastness of the world, in contrast to my own small one.
I saw more in those images with every passing year. The aphorisms from the world's great literature, printed alongside the photographs, became comprehensible to me as I learned to read words as I had been taught by this book to read human faces. I was impressed by our vast differences, and touched and comforted by the common humanity that we share with one another.
The messages contained within this work are timeless and relevent. If I had the power to do so,I would place a copy of this book in every classroom of every grade of all the schools in the world. In my opinion, there is no one of any age for whom this book is not appropriate.
I believe from the beginning we all want to be the best we can be; somehow along the way too many of us lose hope. This book reminds us of the worthiness of the pursuit of the meaning of life. Though as individual members of the global community we may be quite different, we nonetheless see in these pictures the implications of choices made for, and against life--and we are inspired to consider thoughtfully the implications of our everyday thoughts and acts.
This may well be the first and greatest lesson in life.
Anyway - there's something VERY 50s about these photos - the Germans look "German" - the Irish look "Irish", and so forth. This collection of photos presents a very UN-MELTED "melting pot" at the same time it reveals a universal humanity and compassion. There's palpable joy, sorrow, pain, love, beauty, ulginess and every other human emotion depicted here. It's a beautiful book you won't be sorry you got!

It gets down to all the basics of filmmaking. If you want to know what a line producer does, how light meters work and the ratio of film stock to projection, this is the book for you.
It's thick but easy to read with nice B&W illustrations. As a novice and somebody who wants to know how a movie is made this book is perfect. I was really impressed by how simple and to the point this book was on the mechanics and made it an easy read. I will keep in hand at all times for reference as well!
Very well done and exactly what I was looking for in a filmmaking book!
This book provides a superlative introduction and overview to all of the key subjects in producing a lower- to higher- budget film. Though the title makes reference to the digital age, analog equipment is discussed when pertinent as well, and compared to existing and emerging digital technologies.
The technicalities of optics for lenses is fully detailed, as are filters, microphones, stands and other equipment, recommendations for each field of what emergency supplies to have on hand, editing and previewing equipment, software, to name but a few of the countless topics covered. A truly comprehensive and detailed work.
Anyone with a serious interest in this field can learn from this book the fundamentals needed to get started in extremely high quality digital production. Given the materials and information provided, the cost of the book is truly remarkable. Any reader will complete any section feeling like an expert on the subject. One does not have to begin with experience in the digital arena, however, nor even in video production. Even as technical as this work is, it leads the reader very carefully through all which is pertinent and necessary.
A single possible minor shortcoming, is the description of the process of digitizing analog recordings or an actual/ambient environment, into a digital format. One totally unfamiliar with digital concepts may find the analogies provided a bit difficult to follow. It provides enough of a foundation, however, that an interested reader can seek out more technical and/or accurate descriptions of this process. A very small criticism to an otherwise truly excellent work.

Magical things happen to ordinary children - but sometimes the magic doesn't quite work the way it was intended to. Written in the 50s, these books have aged surprisingly well. Right from the start, we know these children and recognise our peers, friends or children in their descriptions.
Having read these books myself as a child, I am now looking forward to sharing with friends' kids (and buying a set for my daughter, still too young for them yet but it gives me a chance to re-read them)
These wonderfully creative and unusual books will win children right from the start. Their episodic structure makes them wonderful "chapter books" for reading to younger kids (or less willing readers) while they are still terrific for older readers too.
And while I do love the new pictures by Quentin Blake, it's great to see the originals by NM Bodecker are still in place!
Now I can't wait to get all of Ruth Maran's other books. School was never this fun. Thanks, Ruth for creating a book series that REALLY DOES THE JOB! A+++
