Great overview with useful specifics
This book does a nice job of presenting justification for clinical integration, and goes further to offer practical guidelines. In combination with Searight's book, it would make a good course on the topic.

Intellectual Capital Review
It is interesting in today's world to see books that remond us all the present and future value of intellectual capital. It is unfortunate the book does not focus on the de-valuation of intellectual capital when downsizing occurs in an organisation. The cost of replacing the intellectual capital does never figure in anual reports, it is 'hidden' by other standard costs, such as employee related costs, equipments, etc. We need to establish a quantification method, so that intellectual capital replacement is thoroughly investigated.

Among Newman's Best
This "essay" is a tour d'force of the force of the power of inferential versus deductive reasoning. This is an unique aposteriori argument for the existence of God, but unfolds an argument in a manner wholly different from the past, such as Aquinas, for example. Newman is a very persuasive author, who uses his evidence judiciously and validly. People of faith will find this exposition worth the perspective.

But, this book can stand on its own as a superlative example of brilliant exposition, using Newman's usually elegant style, and enjoying a journey that seems unlikely from its impetus. The first chapter is particularly difficult, but after that, the reading is engaging and remarkable.

Erudite contributions on classic works
Collaboratively edited by Nicholas Boyle (Professor of German Literary and Intellectual History, and Head of the Department of German, Cambridge University) and John Guthrie (Fellow in German and Director of Studies in Modern Languages, New Hall, Cambridge), Goethe and the English-Speaking World: Essays for the Cambridge Symposium for His 250th Anniversary is an impressive compilation of informed and informative college-level essays and thoughts about Goethe's work, ranging from close readings of the well-known "Faust" and "Wilhelm Meister", to scrutiny of recent translations of his poetry, to a look at how Goethe's texts have affected Ireland literary culture in particular. Goethe And The English-Speaking World is strongly recommended reading for its deep, varied, and eclectic compilation of erudite contributions on the classic works of an immortal master writer.

Hilda Rix Nicholas: Her Life and Art
Published in Hardcover by Melbourne University Press (2000)
Authors: John Pigot and Hilda Rix Nicholas
Amazon base price: $75.00

Enthusiastically recommended for art history students.
Hilda Rix Nicholas: Her Life And Art is the biographical survey of a truly remarkable artist and her unique artistic achievements. She held several solo exhibitions in Europe and Australia, and in 1926 was elected an associate of the Societe Nationale des Beaux Arts in Paris. Yet despite being a phenomenal painter, she has been virtually ignored by western art historians and either excluded from or marginalized in the annals of Australian art history. That sad omission is now superbly remedied through this magnificent edition detailing her life's work and accomplishments. John Pigot documents & profusely illustrates the enduring talent of remarkable artist who refused to comply with the restrictive role socially, culturally, and professional imposed on other women artists of her time. The challenging nature of her work and her unwillingness to accept a subordinate position within the artistic hierarchy made it virtually impossible for her to achieve the kind of recognition that she so richly deserved -- then or (until the publication of this fine art history) now. Hilda Rix Nicholas is enthusiastically recommended reading for students of art history and 20th Century women's history studies.

Mini-sized guide laden with maxi-helpful information
The Opera Journeys Mini Guide Series is just wonderful; it's like a "Cliff Note" of the opera, and extremely informative and educational. I particularly like the size; these guides are not cumbersome and fit right into my shirt pocket. The ladies will find sufficient room in their pocketbooks.

The story narrative with the music examples is excellent. I prefer it to a libretto; indeed, it's a much easier way to follow the essence of the story. The essay is magnificent; very well written, not pedantic, and extremely insightful and comprehensible. I congratulate Burton Fisher for a job very well done and Amazon for making these handy, information-laden booklets available. The Opera Journeys Mini Guide Series is a wonderful contribution to opera education and opera appreciation.

My tip: acquire the entire collection because you will be in easy reach of superbly presented opera guides consisting of story analysis, principal characters in the opera, story narrative with music highlights, background, analysis, and commentary.

The first truly comprehensive medical textbook I've seen.
I first came across this book last year when I was feverishly studying for my 4th year medical exams. What really excited me was that I could look things up in the index and actually find a paragraph or two explaining my query, no matter how obscure the reference. Textbooks like Harrisons baffle me; why would I want to spend 45 minutes looking at the ten different times my word has been mentioned when all I want to know is what it means and when its important.

Anyway I think this textbook is very well set out and thouroughly comprehensive. Obviously its not a bed-time read, but its really helpful when you're stumped by a fact in a multi-guess paper or you have some obscure fact to look up and present to your consultant.

I have no hesitation in giving it 5 stars. Right now I'm waiting on the next edition....I hope it comes in soon.

Lincolnshire (The Buildings of England)
Published in Hardcover by Trafalgar Square (2000)
Authors: Nikolaus Pevsner, John Harris, and Nicholas Antram
Amazon base price: $65.00

Exquisite Detail, Accessible Style
"The Buildings of England: Lincolnshire" is incredibly richly packed with detail, a gazetter describing virtually every community in the shire. For each is given a bit of the history of its development, and a vivid description of the place as it exists now. These word sketches are filled with historical and architectural information, and far from being dry accounts, the writers have presented their material in a way that lets the reader really "see" what is there. The introductory material includes sections on the geology of the area, its social and industrial archaeology, plus chapters on churches, secular buildings, and lesser rural buildings. Within the gazetter section, one or more "Perambulations" are offered for the larger towns and cities, charmingly detailed walking tours that point out each feature of interest. There are many line drawings of construction details and floor plans, plus 130 excellently clear black and white photographs of structures from the ancient to the modern. Of additional interest to a student of history or architecture is an extensive glossary and also a listing of sources and suggested further readings. The Introduction is titled "The Pleasures of Lincolnshire" and this volume is certainly that. Any trip to Lincolnshire would be greatly enriched by its guidance, and indeed it is so descriptive it can almost stand in lieu of actually being there! The authors clearly write from an enormous fund of knowledge, and their expertise and elegant presentation make this without question a Five-Star book.
