excellent basics of flytying book for beginners and above.
After little formal training and some flytying kit manuals , I found Fling and Puterbaugh's manual. It was just what I needed to continue in my hobby. The authors' include thorough chapters on tools, work environments and materials. Nothing is assumed in this book. Although the sections on insect life cycles are just a brief overview, the specific patterns shown include excellent step by step drawings to walk even a 9 year old through with ease. This text has become my new fly tying instructor
Very well written entry level book
I found this book very easy to understand compared to similar technical books. Illustrations and details of tying techniques are excellent. I would recommend this book to anyone considering this sport.

Interesting historical overview
This is a great book for the Russel Wright collector who wants to know more of the backstory and history of the man and the pottery. But do not confuse this book with a collector's guide. This book will probably not help you to decide if a piece is RW or not, and certainly will not help in pricing or deciding rarity.
Bravo!
This book is a great compliment to the exhibit at the Cooper-Hewitt, but more than that. The information here is not more of the same, of what's already been said about Wright in other books. Although some overlap is necessary to tell his story, there are many new details of his design life and philosophy, and marvelous photos of some of his products and drawings, not seen other books. There are also great pictures of Mary as well. I feel that this book was very sensitively done and that all involved in creating it (and the exhibit) deserve applause. It would be hard to imagine any R.W. fan not loving this book.

Good biography but technical
I use this biography in my fourth grade classroom. It does a good job of characterizing Orville and Wilbur Wright -- you get a true sense of their determination and perfectionism. However, some of the information is very technical which tends to confuse my children. In the end, my students have mixed feelings about the book - some enjoy it immensely while others complain that it is hard to read.
It's A High-Flying Book!
Wright Brothers at Kitty Hawk is a great book for kids ages 9-12. It is fun to read, exciting, and factual all in one. I would recommend this book for a great gift to a 4th grader.

Wright Design
A good, revelatory, and brief book, but not as your First Book of Wright. Hoppen focuses on architecture with very little mention of the allied arts (glass, furniture, etc.) for which Wright was also famous. It is the only book organized by the geometric primes or principles at play in Wright's buildings. Although based on a chronological, sequential insight into Wright's development that Englishman Hoppen had while one of Wright's last apprentice-students, the text consists of short vignettes that actually skip back and forth in a way that could confuse (contrast "Years with Frank Lloyd Wright" by another disciple, Edward Tafel). This book might better be called The Seven Principles..., since Hoppen shows that each "Age" (roughly a decade) is aligned with a design principle and each of those has earlier antecedents, extending and layering onto earlier aspects of Wright's work.
The good side of his serendipity is that Hoppen can trace lines of development or renewed inspiration stemming from far earlier projects Wright once drafted. It is written as a paean to human creativity. Hoppen presents many revealing episodes in Wright's life and relates them to his bursts of creativity and innovation. While they ring true, most episodes are unattributed. A tall but thin book with generous margins filled with black-and-white illustrations. Plans are often too small for legibility.

Niumi as seen through WST
Analyzes events that affected Niumi - now known as The Gambia, Africa - from the perspective of World System Theory. Concludes that increased economic interaction with industrialized, trade-seeking nations led to an irreversible peripheralization of Niumi relative to the "core" economies of Europe and America. This book is interesting and descriptive, but not ground-breaking.
