Encyclopedia of the Reformed Faith
Published in Hardcover by Hyperion Books (1992)

Average review score:

An excellent resource for Reformed of every perspective
I write as a member of the conservative, confessional Orthodox Presbyterian Church, which was created when J. Gresham Machen was excommunicated from the liberal Presbyterian Church-USA, for advocating that theological liberalism was a completely different faith than Christianity and that liberals ought to admit this and withdraw from the Church. This volume is published by the PCUSA's publishing house, Westminster-John Knox Press. Consequently, it is decidedly liberal in its outlook. But therein lies its great value.

It denies a covenant of works, marginalizes Princeton theology and refers to Machen as a militant. It has no entry for the doctrine of imputation yet feminist theology and universalism seem to have had no trouble having their articles included.

Nonetheless, I personally have enjoyed and benefitted from the entries on covenants, the Church and numerous others as well as the articles that cover liturgical issues.

When I want the quickest word on what the liberals are thinking, I can find it at my fingertips. When I need more, many of the significant articles have bibliographies of relevent resources. It also notates any words within a column that may have its own, more comprehensive article.

I recommend this book for nearly everyone in a historic Christian Church: Lutherans, Presbyterians and Reformed, conservative or liberal, laymen and minsters.

Your library isn't complete without this work. If you're missing this volume, you're missing out.

Excellent, Affordable Resource
This is a very good attempt to pull together the different strands of reformed thought into a single volume for quick use. Of course, any book of this type will leave some unsatisfied ,and my own objection to it is that too much space is given to theologians and organizations which are really NOT reformed in the sense that most of us would understand it. I don't see any need for a long article on the World Council of Churches right after a long one of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches. Many of the theogians selected were reformed in background alone and changed entirely in view. Still, the material on Protestant scholaticism is great and most of the major points are hit. Though a book twice the size is needed, this is certainly a fine attempt.

The bestest description of Albania
This book shows exactly how albania was and how it is. It gives all these iformation, from albania's culture to it's economy. I myself am from albania and still could not explain it as good as David K. Wright does. I have all these thougts and memories on my mind about some of Albania's dictators, heroes, and how they were but no other book or internet cite comes as close to those thoughts as this book does. I think it's really good.

A Person worth reading about
This is one wonderful book. Before I read Breaking the Color Barrier in Tennis, David k. Wright, I have to be honest, I had never heard of Arthur Ashe. It such a shame that there are thousands of people out there, just like me, who never heard of such famous and extraordinary people. Instead, we know about all the negative parts of life, such as drugs and how to use them. They should pick up this book and maybe they will learn something from it. This was a great short book on an amazing man. I hate it when you start reading a book and it is so hard to understand because the author uses confusing words. It seems like you're reading a foreign language. But this book was easy to read and understand. In such a small number of pages, the author writes exactly about whom Arthur Ashe was and what he was about. Even though discrimination towards black people was still going strong during his time, it didn't stop this great black tennis legend from his great accomplishments. And even when he knew that all those accomplishments where going to disappear, due to his diagnose of the AIDS virus from a blood transfusion, he still fought strong and tried to make the best of his last days.

A very nice book
Mr. Wright has done a very nice job with this book. It is an excellent overview of the automotive industry and a good all-around automotive book (especially for anyone interested in the automobile). The title tells it like it is. It is obvious a lot of work went into the Snap-on Corporation history, and can be appreciated as well. I have thoroughly enjoyed this book and have made reference to it in the Snap-on Collectibles book as an excellent source for information on Snap-on's history. Mr. Wright's book makes a nice addition to any automotive or Snap-on collectors library.

Its a great book I reccomend it to anyone
I think its a great book and I thought it deserved more then one revei

Where's Vic's?
Well, what can I say about a book that purports to be a "Guide to Great Minnesota Taverns" that does not include Vic's Bar & Grill in Moorhead, Minnesota nor does it include the International Eelpout Festival - one of the premier Beer Consumption Events in the US, Canada, and other places from which contestants happen to stagger?
This book was written by a couple of Cheeseheads (Wisconsinites.) They do silly things like referring to Fargo, SOUTH Dakota [sic.] It seems that selection criteria involves how many foreign/microbrew (e.g. Yuppy) beers a place has on tap - although a few "working-class" REAL taverns are thrown in just to amuse the connoisseur (like watching the animals in the zoo.) For example, of a local bar in International Falls: "Forget about ordering any of your favorite brews and instead bend a macrobrew elbow with a regular patron." Gee, what if I really do like Budweiser and those proud Clydesdales? Of a place in Grand Marais: "Blessedly, ... (it) is a nonsmoking venue. ... No jukebox intrudes on the calm, which is enhanced by soft blues programming delivered by satellite." Oh bless their stiff little pinkie finger! If I can't smoke my cigarettes and sing along "North to Alaska" with Johnny Horton on the juke, what's the point of being in a bar?
If you would like to tour Minnesota one "designer" brew at a time, this book's for you! If not, you can play Bar Bingo with the folks at Vic's.

Realistic
I recommend this book for both children and adults, as it is quite frank and realistic. I wish I would have read it before I became involved with helping Burmese refugees in America. In a well-organized format, it describes the superstitions, diversity, and political/economic angst of Burma. However, it does not describe the second class status of women, as accurately as the book Cultures of the World: Burma -- something I feel is key to understanding these people and Buddhism.

Moon Handbooks: Ohio (1st Ed.)
Published in Paperback by Avalon Travel Publishing (1999)
Authors: David K. Wright and David Wright
Amazon base price: $15.95

Moon's misinformation
I hope Wright researched other cities better than he did mine, because he lists a restaurant that closed in 1998, an inn that closed in 1998, industry that has 'recently sprouted' (but has been here since 1966), a park at an address that does not exist, and a golf tournament at the wrong course. I'd be afraid to
use this guide for other cities!!!

Ohio Tourbook with History and Popular Culture
"Moon Handbooks Ohio" is one of the best tourbooks available for the state of Ohio. It is written in a breezy style with a sense of humor. In addition to the major tourist destinations, many less well known attractions are included, some of which won't be found in other tourbooks. So, for examle, there are locations for off-road bicycling and a guitar camp run by a former Jefferson Airplane band member. But this book is much more than a collection of attractions: there are historical overviews and asides on popular culture. Many annual local festivals are mentioned. At the end of the book, there are suggestions for further reading and a list of websites. This book is fun to read and provides many good ideas for places to go and things to do in Ohio.

Real Programmers Don't Want this Book
I really enjoy the Using Series, and look for them whenever I want to learn more about a certain topic. However, this book is deplorable. It is not made for anyone looking to write their own code, or anyone who actually wants to program. All this book tries to do is show you how to use someone else's code. I do not mean another module, such as the infamous CGI.pm moudle, but rather using another script and "tweaking" it for your needs. It also does not seek to explain the theory behind the code. I was also quite disappointed in how it was organized. The Using Seies are good books, but this one doesn't belong in the family. There are much better books out there that will serve your needs.

Pooly written with incomplete examples
I found this book to be hard to read and poorly written. The examples are very difficult to follow because most are only code segments not the full code. This makes it very diffcult to follow. As any experienced programmer will tell you "Nothing helps more than a good example.". This book is highly lacking of good examples. I have several years of experience with programming in several languages, which allowed me to fill the gaps in the examples, how ever a beginning programmer would be lost. In conclusion I do not recommend this book to a programmer of any level.
