Excellent Step-by-step instructions.
The reason I really liked "Carving Bears and Bunnies" by Tom Wolfe, was the step-by-step instructions and color photographs. As a beginner they really helped me to get the proportions right on the carvings. I really enjoyed this book of Tom Wolfe's and I am hoping to get some other ones of his.

Revolutionary anthology for all Amazons Tribades and Warexx'
"...if men knew about her, they might clandestinely worry that she could be the 'superior' strain...they would have no more idea what they were thinking than ever they've done" (pg 544). A magnificent anthology for Hags of the Revolution. Remembers and revives our Separatist past and fuels the Lesbian laughter (Marilyn Murphy, 'Looking for Lesbians' ), Lesbian knowledge (Pat Parker,'Boots Are Being Polished') and Lesbian anger (Ruth Byrn, 'The Warexx') of our future. In the words of Elana Dykewomon, 'Lesbian culture is the manifestation of appetite let loose in womyn' - this anthology is a fine record of these Dyke feedings. It also strengthens our Labryth against the queer, liberal and s/m onslaughts. Long live editors Julia Penelope and Susan J. Wolfe........and Valarie Solanas!

Samurai based Self-Defense Book has Enduring Appeal
I have been studying Jujitsu for a little over two years. Antoher student recommended I get a copy of a book on Lessons from the Samurai warriors by Fred Neff that is really helpful in getting not only the foundation of Jujitsu, but strategy for its use in a fight. After buying and reading a copy, I was very impressed. I took the book to work to show a friend of mine, who is far more advanced in his knowledge of Japanese fighting arts. He has been studying Japanese martial arts for years and related to me that Fred Neff's book was what originally caught his interest in the Japanese martial arts. I have read and reread Lessons from the Samurai. My practice now includes an increasing number of fighting techniques taught in this practical book. It is a book with enduring appeal.

Library Public Relations, Promotions, and Communications
Bravo! What a fine book! Always curious about how to do things better, I picked up this book and then couldn't put it down. You can imagine my delight in learning so many wonderful, insightful ways to showcase my library! These are techniques you'd never think of on your own. I especially appreciated the chapter on volunteer programs. What an innovative way to stretch your meager library dollar! I must admit I thought library public relations would be a cinch for me when I stepped into this field last year. After all, I had been the publicity chair at my local women's club, edited my church newsletter, and raised five children. I said to myself, "What can't I handle?" Well, now I could just kick myself right in the backside. I only wish I had read this book before I made a shambles of my local library. Live and learn, I always say. If you're in my boat, I say read this book, BEFORE, not after, you take a crack at library PR. I thank the good Lord they didn't fire me, and I'm trying my darndest now to undo the mess I've made. Thanks to this book, now I know what to do. Hats off to this author, "a real pro," for sharing her bounty of knowledge!

Meet John Doe: Frank Capra, Director/Charles Wolfe, Editor (Rutgers Films in Print)

The gosepl of the little man according to Frank Capra
"Meet John Doe" is the third and most ambitious film in the celebrated trilogy of socio-political dramas directed by Frank Capra following "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" and "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town." Once again Capra uses Gary Cooper as his lead character, placing him at the center of a most interesting political crisis: the threat of a fascist coup by a media tycoon. Unlike the simplicity of the first two films in the trilogy, both Long John Willoughby/John Doe and Ann Mitchell are decidedly more complex figures, so much so that it made a comic ending to the film impossible.

In is introductory essay, Charles Wolfe reconstructs the history of the film, looking particularly at its problematic ending. We then have complete transcript of the finished film, which includes extensive annotations concerning original script material. This book also provides the various endings scripted for the film, which were published here for the first time. The rest of this volume consists of reports and recollections by Capra, five contemporary newspaper and magazine reviews of "Meet John Doe," and three commentaries: Richard Glatzer's "'Meet John Doe': An End to Social Mythmaking"; Dudley Andrew's "Productive Discord in the System: Hollywood 'Meets John Doe'"; and Nick Browne's "System of Production/System of Representation: Industry Context and Ideological Form in Capra's 'Meet John Doe.'"

"It's a Wonderful Life" remains the quintessential Capracorn film, but "Meet John Doe" certainly holds up well in comparison. The darkness of the final sections anticipates George Bailey's descent into the hell of a world in which he has never been born and goes far beyond the symbolic crucifixions of Jeb Smith's impeachment and Longfellow Deed's insanity hearing. When "John" reads the speech Ann has written for him, it is not only a transforming moment for both of their characters, it is arguably the clearest articulation of Capra's beliefs about America. The Rutgers Film in Print series not only gives students a transcript of the film, it gives them a variety of critical perspectives without overwhelming them (as opposed to a Norton Reader edition of a classic book like "Madame Bovary"). Yes, it is necessary to screen the film, but there is something to be said for working with the script and focusing on the dialogue and plot rather than the actors and editing. In the end, this book makes a good case for "Meet John Doe" being THE Capra movie worthy of critical study by film students.

Excellent execution of concept (see Editorial Review)
The photographs are simply spectacular, from the sweeping herds of wildebeest(?) to the flamingoes... Art Wolfe's short, but descriptive commentaries about each photo are not only very informative, but quite interesting!
And notwithstanding the disclaimer about the (minor) digital manipulation for artistic effect, which the photographer very openly discusses in the book, these are some of the most incredible wildlife pictures you can see...

Great Gift But I'm Keeping Mine
I've read "The Nature of Lions: Social Cats of the Savannas" as I was going to give it as gift to my (school aged), nephews and neices for a Christmas present... I guess I'll just have to get another copy of it as I enjoyed it so much myself. Various aspects of these big cats, including the evolution of lions, their anatomy, social behavior, mating rituals and birth are all covered in this study. As well, there's lots of stunning photos that compliment the book well.
