This book should be required reading for every student of predator biology. If you really want to know the truth about wolves and their behavior, read this.

Great Book! The early history of Alaska from the dog sleds to the early vehicles trying to cross the land with no roads. Hunting from his dog sled pulled by his half-wolves, he fell in frozen rivers many miles from any help and knew how to survive. The big bears and the weather sharpened his skills. A hunter and outdoorsman's book.

Alaska's Wolf Man ranks as one of the best books I have ever read.. period. Myself, and many of my fellow Alaskans have read this book and enjoyed it greatly. It is full of history and adventurous tales about Alaska. Anyone with a love for the outdoors, wildlife, hunting or trapping would love this book! Rearden has a wonderful way of telling a story which draws you in. I couldn't put this book down until I had read it all.

This was a very good biography of Frank Costello. In addition you also recieved a good history of organized crime.This book
tells of Costello's leadership role in the Mafia. You are taken through bootlegging.the gambling empires that were built by
organized crime as well as the House un-American activities
hearings. The author also gives you good insight into the attempted murder of Costello by rival forces.You also get a good insight into Bugsy Seigel,Meyer Lansky, and other prominent

figures in organized crime. This isn actually a very good book.
Read it.

There has been much attention focused on this book in the last year or so. First Harold Ramis, noted "Prime Minster of the Underworld" as inspiration for his mob picture, "Analyze This". Then I read where former CBS President Tom Leahy along with Norman Twain obtained an option to do the book as a movie. It made me go out and get a copy. I was not disapointed! "Prime Minister" is the sort of book that isn't written much anymore. It is done with elan' and the subject, Frank Costello, the "capo di capo" is treated with great dignity. It is a dignity that Costello strove for in life, even as he headed an organized crime family. Costello's attorney wrote this book with the outstanding author Joseph DiMona. Together they weave an adventurous tale of an immigrant who through the din of will, grit and native intellect rose to the top of the "Cosa Nostra". Costello preferred negotiations to violence and acted as the Mob's peacemaker. "Prime Minister of the Underworld" presents a man of fundamental decency, ambivalent about life as a mobster, yet one of the most successful gangsters. It is this riddle, this internal contradiction that makes Costello compelling and drives this story. Wolf and DiMona display great restraint, they let the action speak for itself and there is not a moment gratutitous violence or moralizing. So complex is Costello's character that it needs no adornment and will bear no easy analyzation. What emerges is a clean portrait of an everyman as killer. George Wolf and Joe DiMona fashioned one of the great mob books of all time. A book as subtle and powerful as its' topic.

I enjoyed the first section on his childhood which was all new to me. But what I really enjoyed was the second section on the bootlegging days. It went into more detail than I could have asked for on how he set it up and even gave some detail on some of the gun fights men like Bugsy Seigel got into. I would have liked the book better if this section would have been a lot bigger. The rest of the book was good too and supplied an interesting theory on Lucky Luciano's infamous ride but didn't go into any real detail on how he ran and operated the crime family it focused more on his personal businessess. All in all interesting (especially the bootlegging section) and a fairly good story. I recommend at least giving it a try.

I am a person with a heart yearning to learn. I know I will continue to learn from these stories all my life. And, I know that in sharing these stories, I will bring understanding to other's lives.

A great system for Live Action Role Play, although it is not as great a system as the actual Role Playing books, it is a good system and can run upwards of 5 to 100 people. Great work White Wolf, Keep at it.

I have yet to read this Edition, however all other editions have been wonderful. This game has been great from the get-go. The book is easy to understand and a lot easier than the dice form of the game. Thumbs-up for a job well done

This book provides you with all the background information and rules you need to start or play a live-action role-playing game in White Wolf's World of Darkness. White Wolf has produced the best RPG to date, with hundreds of expansion books and tons of stories, art and resources. This game is the BEST!!!

Oblivion, the pocket sized LARP rulebook for Wraith: The Oblivion is right on par with Laws of the Wild as a fantastic, well compiled book. Oblivion contains information on all Guilds (including the especially illegal 3), a habit I wish White-Wolf would take toward it's tabletop books instead of relying on infinite sourcebooks.

The system is the same one as in all the other books, which is good, because it's a well thought out system. Shadowguiding remains a concern of mine, however. In Live Action, having a player also play someone elses Shadow just isn't always practical. If you have six or so people, it's definately worth having half of them play Shadows, pure and simple.

In short, it's as good a book as Laws of the Night and Laws of the Wild. If you enjoyed them (especially Wild, to which it enjoys more similarities) you should like this.

(ps. And contrary to popular opinion, Wraith and Oblivion do NOT have to be overly depressing. Play it any way you like!)

The LARP rules for Wraith, I thought would be more again to the LARP rules for mage.. Impossible to make believable in a Live Action Setting. Although, Some of the Wraith powers are a hard to pull off live, MET does it very well. I am EXTREMELY impressed. Also, the condensed approach to the rules and setting includes more than the original base tabletop book did for about half the price. A great buy for any LARPer.

Who Speaks For Wolf, a book written by Paula Underwood, Turtle Women Singing, is a story about an Indian tribe who faces the challenge of finding peace with nature. A Grandfather is singing an ancient story of their tribe to his grandson while wolves watch on from a nearby hill. This novel is a Native American poetry book, whose theme is to respect nature. As the Indian tribe moves onto the wolves home, they face the challenge to become one with nature, which the wisest of their tribe has already done. "And so it was that the people devised among themselves a way of asking each other questions whenever a decision was to be made on a new place or a new way." (Who Speaks For Wolf-pg 38) The Indians learnt how to respect the wolves and nature, but in the 1600's the white men came. After they came, the Indians became the wolves, and the white men the Indians, for they had not learnt to respect nature and other people. This book is written in an unusual style. Since the story is the grandfather singing to the son, there are capital letters beginning each paragraph and page, which resemble shouting. Since it is written in poetry, there are many indentions resembling the new verses. Who Speaks for Wolf is a picture book, which is aimed from kindergarten to collage and beyond. Many people enjoy this book for its lesson and understanding.

This book is a memorable and educational book with a profound impact. Who Speaks for Wolf is a Native American story, told by a grandfather to his grandson, teaching him about Wolf. This book tells of how the people forget Wolf, and push him off his land. The people become selfish and want the land for themselves. Later, white man come and repeats the same offense. They too don't think about the natives, and push and kill them off the land. The white men now show the same arrogance shown earlier by the natives. The important lesson of the story is to respect not only Wolf and other people, but also nature as a whole. The author does a splendid job of relaying the importance of living in harmony with nature. Who Speaks for Wolf, by Paula Underwood, teaches how important it is to respect nature. Through the Native American's story of a people thinking only of themselves and not of Wolf, we better understand of nature, and a better co-existence.

I am a college student who was required to read this book for my Mediation course. This is a short story with a tremendously important lesson. Written from the perspective of an old native american father, he tells the story of wolf. It follows the life of the native americans and of the relationship between man and animal (wolf). It goes on to show the blatant disregard of wolf when an important decision needed to be made among the native americans, and the fallout of that disregard. From a mediation perspective, it teaches the imporant lesson of diversity, learning to accept all parties involved and listening to and taking them into account. This is an incredible book for young and old...it comes with my highest reccomendation.

I really enjoyed this book. It was well written and kept the reader thinking. I was continually wondering how many other things we, as a society, might have misconceptions about. I loved the style of writing. I could have read the book in one setting. It was funny, egotistical yet humble, and kept me enthralled. After reading Farley Mowat's story, I was ready to head out and live on the Alaskan tundra with wolves and eskimos. Who doesn't need a break from the world once in a while? Luckily, I was able to mentally visit the wolves and enjoy the comfort of my recliner at the same time. It was like Discovery Channel, only the narrator was hilarious. Great book!!!!

Though Mowat's experience with wolves occurred over 30 years ago, it managed to captivate my interest and provide me additional insight to a species I am very concerned about. As a short novel, I wasn't sure whether Mowat intended his narrative to be that of a scientific account or a "coming to terms" with the human/wolf spiritual experience. Either way, it was in parts both vastly entertaining as well as intellectually well-grounded and thoughtful. Anyone concerned about the constant perpetuation of negative myths about wolves in our or any culture should read as much as possible about wolves in order to begin to understand where society has wronged such an intelligent, special animal. Mowat's book is an excellent source of information for the conservationist seeking a view into the lives of an artic wolf family, as well as for the reader who may have no idea how unfairly ostracized this species has been--30 years ago or not, the concepts of human encroachment, unfounded hatred and unjustified blame are alive today, as is human's preoccupation with pest control in the name of profits.

The first time I saw,Never Cry Wolf, I thought I would not enjoy reading it. First, because it was an assigned literary book to read: secondly, it was not a book I would normally select to read. However, I was pleasantly surprised with this book, and thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

Farley Mowat, the author, has an incredible vocabulary that he uses to tell the story. But, while he may use some scientific or big words it doesn't distract the reader too much. In his writing, Mowat has a lovable quality, sarcasm. This trait makes the book fun to read and easily relatable to real life and people.

Mowat takes the reader to the world of the Arctic Wolves in the Canadian wilderness. The narrator, a biologist, is sent by the government to explore the life of the wolf, and, more specifically, to find out more information on how the wolf is interacting with the other species of life. What the narrator learns through his study changes his views on the wolf and on the world. He realizes that things aren't always as they seem, and facts are not always simple to understand.

I'm sorry but I just don't like this book or any of the other books Mr. Vander has written. If you look at his reviews, they are all by the same person, in the same state. For all we know, he could be writing them himself, and using another email address. Or, it could be someone in his family writing the review. If he had any good reviews, they would be from magazines or reviewers.

His titles are written for adults not young adults. Sorry Mr. Vander, I think you are targeting an older generation not suited for this type of book or any other book you have written.

Although this book is for the younger set, I enjoyed it very much. It is good that Amazon provides us with books that are not distributed in many states as is the case with this one. Frank Vander Pyle's true stories have been very enjoyable for me and my family ! I also just loved "OUTCAST - A Dog Nobody Wanted"
= I read it twice ! My next book will be "Marvin- Battling The Odds" by this author. I also thought his book "A Little Place To Hide" was the most touching book I have ever read = all three true stories in it ! He must have a very exciting and eventful life !

I am not usually a reader, but this book was just the right size for me to have a great adventure in a short period of time.
I loved it ! My son liked it too !
I would encourage any teacher to get this book for their elementary readers - they will love it !
I am an adult and enjoyed every word of it !

The story by Mary Shelling has made another big screen debut almost 60 years later then the original one. They movies about the same old frankenstein getting loose in the village and terrorizing everyone only this is 20 times more gory! Changed a little bit for the better but all the same a great horror movie. Frankenstein doesn't have the bolts coming out of his neck. Rated R: for graphic violence
