Not the best
I'm not wild about Carlotta's blues hobby -- it seems too forced -- so an entire book centered around it wasn't exactly a page-turner. Karen Kijewski did the "old friend is a big-time musician with a problem" better in the Kat Colorado series.

I also found the mystery, and the culprit, to be vague. It's a good series, but this definitely wasn't one of the better installments.

Deserves a Reprint!
If you can find this book, grab it. Number four in the Carlotta Carlyle mystery series, it offers a great deal of interesting background into Carlotta's life, none of which has been discussed in any depth in the previous three books.

The plot centers around an old friend/enemy, Dee Willis, now a blues/rock superstar. In Boston for a major gig, Dee looks up her old pal Carlotta, not for old times' sake, but to help find a missing mutual friend from long ago, a fine blues guitarist who fell into a life of drugs and booze. There's a serious reason why Dee wants Carlotta to find Davey--but doing so unlocks emotions for Carlotta that she'd rather keep buried. Emotions due to the fact that, way back when she and Dee were in the same band, Dee stole Carlotta's husband, bass guitarist Cal.

Carlotta agrees to find Davey, but in doing so, she has to slog through old business and old feelings--and confront Cal, something she has never been able to do since he left her. A good mystery, a good story, and a real key into Carlotta. I don't know why it's out of print!

A good book for some
I would recommend this book to some students of veterinary science and veterinary pathology, but it is hard to keep pace with such a rapidly changing field - and in some sections, this book hasn't even tried. Glaring errors and out of date references are present in some sections (e.g. the section on Swine Influenza does not mention the zoonotic potential of the virus or its presence in avian species). Other sections contain information and figures which are hard to obtain elsewhere. Use this book - but with caution.

Current sophomore in vet school
i agree with what one of the reviewers above wrote, that the book does have some material that is lacking or outdated, however, i am currently in pathology 2 at my vet school, and i have found that this book does a very good job of explaining the various diseases and conditions (esp. the more common ones) in a way that makes it a little easier to comprehend, and supports and clarifies my professors notes greatly. i also found it useful when i was in pathology 1 with its explanations of inflammation, necrosis and neoplasms. it is rather large but i have found it useful for school, and most likely good to have around in practice as a resource. i recommend this book to students that are about to take pathology courses in vet medicine.

A good book for references
I would like to recommend this book to any vet students who wish to buy this book. This book may be a little heavy to carry around but the it's good as a back-up reference book. The explanation on the topic of inflammation and neoplasia is good and to the point. On inflammation, it's divided to the groups of inflammation and and in the topic of neoplasia differentiates benign and malignant tumours very detail. I like this this.

Moral Desperado: A Life of Thomas Carlyle
Published in Hardcover by Trafalgar Square (1996)

Readable but Unilluminating
One of Victorian culture's greatest and most original writers was overdue a new biography. Simon Heffer gives us a readble and lively version of his life, but in the end does little to make Carlyle's work live for modern readers. I suspect that Heffer is really too sympathetic to Carlyle's late, ranting writings to re-think their significance. Instead he just wants to make excuses. It's a very great pity, because Carlyle is certainly a genius. His greatest works - like 'Sartor Resartus' - are unique, a wonderful kaleidescope of ideas and images written in his dazzlingly fractured prose. In a Victorian context he was certainly a racist, but the multiple sources of his thought, and his jumbled cross-language sentences give us a far better idea of what 'multi-ethnic' culture could be than a bag full of post-modern post-colonial theorists.

Fictional account of a little-known real-life naval tragedy
The USS Somers, a swift two-masted ship, was the site of an experiment in training young people to be sailors. Unfortunately, one of the officers, a Mr. Midshipman Spencer, son of the then secretary of war, was unhappy at being in the navy and liked to fantasize about being a pirate, which was the subject of the fiction he liked the best. His fantasies, combined with a harsh captain, the presence on the ship of at least one man who had served previously on a slave ship (considered piracy by the laws of the time) and Mr. Spencer's unpopularity with his fellow-officers and propensity to fraternize with and buy the affections of the crew, led to a tragic scandal and indirectly to the founding of the U.S. Naval Academy.

Published in 1997. Does not reflect 2003 USMLE 3 questions
Not for 2003 USMLE. Question format is old and uses out dated approach to the new exam. The New Exam focuses on the next step in management. Your money will be better spent on another book that is up to date.

This is a very good book in question answer format.
Excellent book for question practice and core concept explained very well

Unfocused text for antenna design !
I used this text at work to shape a Cassegrain antenna system and i am very dissapointed by it : the first problem is that the theoretical explanations that are linked to the programs are either non-existant or sybilline , the second is the programs themselves that depend on unaccounted for parameters . This make working with this text a nightmare of experience ! Do not buy this book , buy instead Craig Scott "Modern Methods of Reflector Antenna Analysis and Design" and develope your own code and you will finish your project a lot faster !

Not What It Seems
I enjoy learning about history and thought this book would be a good way to test the things I've learned and maybe learn some new stuff. However, this book is a very bad example of a history test. All the questions are multiple choice with almost no explanations for the answers. So forget about learning any new stuff with this book. Also I noticed a typo (or maybe just an incorrect answer to a question). The question was to put Henry VIII's wifes in order from the 1st one he married to the last. This book has Henry marrying Anne of Cleves before Jane Seymore, which obviously is incorrect. This error made me wonder whether there were other incorrect answers in this book. My opinion is definatly to pass on this book because its not at all what it seems.
