Beautiful, thought-provoking book
Utah Then and Now is a wonderful look now only at the past, but at the possibilities for Utah's future.

Tom Till's photographs are breathtaking. You can see his love of the Western landscape in the care with which he photographs it. Ted Wilson's commentary is both thoughtful and thought provoking.

This is more than just a coffee table book. By putting photographs of Utah's past next to the present, it prods the reader to envision a third picture--that of Utah's future.

In many ways, Utah is at a crossroads. The state can choose to continue on the traditional road of developing every square inch of ground as if open space were a limitless resource. On the other hand, Utahns can recognize that the natural beauties of this state are at risk and can take responsibility for preserving the land. No matter which way Utahans ultimately choose to go, this book will help people appreciate the necessity for making a responsible decision.

fun way to learn your history!
My grandmother passed on her love of paper dolls to meby buying me Tom Tierney dolls for my sixth birthday. Ive been collecting them ever since. Im now in highschool and Ilove them even more! Not only are they beautifully illustrated, but they are always ckock full of historical facts. Almost everything I know about the Wilsons I got from this book. Im studying the presidents wives now because of these dolls. I find that these dolls help my history come alive! I really could go on and on about these dolls, and any others Mr. Tierney does. But Ill close saying anything you can get by him is the best way to learn about the subject.

A gentle, highly enjoyable and entertaining compilation
The Zen Of Ziggy is the latest collection of single-panel (and the occasional Sunday sequence) comics about a little bald guy, the pets he adores, and his constant struggle to catch any sort of break in life. Perpetually faced with TV shows that have given up any pretense of disguising their lack of merit; park birds who criticize his taste in low-quality popcorn; psychoanalysts who offer reassurances about "page fright"; and a great deal more, Ziggy's cheerful good humor and ability to survive the little mishaps that innately resemble those that everyone has encountered before at one time or another, lending a wry and universal empathy to this gentle, highly enjoyable and entertaining compilation.

This ia a GREAT organizer!
I am an adult college student...I used to use the Ziggy planners in high school and I have found them so useful for keeping track of special projects and homework assignments. The week is laid out onto two pages so it is easy to keep track of semester weeks and testing as most professors map out the class schedule on the first day. I highly recommend this planner for grades 7-12 and above. And for those college students who are a little older like myself: Ziggy is a fun character who reminds me to stay young at heart!

GOTTA LOVE ZIGGY!!
Get lost in the world of Ziggy. No worries, no muddle. Comic's most lovable loser's daily adventures will bring either smiles or grins or even laughter to the reader. Not to mention, this is the best of Ziggy's 30 years of being. A must for someone who likes something cute or a good comic panel!!

Murder on the Canadian
This was an excellent book with lots of intrigue, though I would not award this book with the full 5 stars because some parts are a bit repetitive.

Engrossing read that brought back train memories of my own!
Let it be known: I am a train nut. A VIA Rail nut, to be more specific. So when I heard about this great little mystery about a murder aboard the Canadian from Winnipeg to Vancouver, I had to read it! "Murder on the Canadian" was a short read, but a very enjoyable one.

Protagonist Tom Austen wants to become a detective like his idols the Hardy Boys. Tom knows all the techniques: fingerprinting, poisons, collecting evidence and interrogating suspects, but when his vacation turns to a real murder investigation he gets more than he bargained for.

The beautiful Catherine Saks has been murdered in her room, apparently by her drunk, jealous husband. There are a number of suspects, and Tom has to move quickly and carefully to avoid being caught. The case takes a number of interesting twists and turns, including Tom nearly being abandoned in a small town, a poisoned omelette, and a fight in a railway tunnel with the killer.

Vivid descriptions, steady pacing and plenty of great conversations, as well as several action-packed sequences make this an enjoyable read for mystery and train fans of all ages.

Inteligent supence
I believe this is the most wonderfull suspence book for kids aged 10 to 14. Probably one of the best ones I ever read when I was that age. Highly recomended for kids to incentivate their lecture. Great present

Quality content orderly presented without leaving out detail
Wilson's book presents a step by step how to rebuild your BBC without being an "upscale" list of bullet points. His presentation, while perhaps a bit grammatically insensitive, appeals to people who won't mind getting their hands dirty taking on their own rebuild project. I recommend Tom's book for anyone considering a rebuild of their Big Block Chevy. You won't find hot rodding performance tips here, but you'll come away with all the practical knowledge needed to work through it on your own. The one piece of advice I'd add to the book is that you use an oil pump primer to spin up your oil pump before first starting your newly rebuilt motor.

Rebuilding Big Block Chevy's
This book was an excellent, step by step manual on how to rebuild any big block chevy engine. It was extremely helpful to me as i rebuilt my 454h.o. engine and also bored it .030 over. I'd recommend this book to anyone who is interested in engines, doing an engine rebuild currently, or anyone who likes mechanics! Just a fabulous manual! Go Chevy!

Exciting Mystery
Tom Austen is a kid detective. When he hears about a ghost town in the mountains of British Columbia, he has to go. Soon Tom and his sidekick, Dietmar Oban, find out that a young girl has disappeared. Then a boy disappears. It's now up to Tom and Dietmar to solve the mystery, before it's too late and they disappear too.

This was an excellent book. I recommend it to any mystery fans.

I like how Eric Wilson always starts with a mystery.
I like it when TOM explores ghost towns and caves. I wish that I would be allowed to go explore ghost towns too. The part I like best is when they find CHUCK and TIPPY at the end. I want to read all of his books. I CAN NAME SOME OF THEM. COLD MIDNIGHT IN VIEUX QUEBEC, CODE RED IN THE SUPER MALL, THE GREEN GABLES DETECTIVE, SPIRT IN THE RAINFOREST, THE ICE DIAMAND QUEST, MURDER ON THE CANADIAN and many more

"Disneyland Hostage" Is A Pretty Good Book
I just read "Disneyland Hostage" by Eric Wilson. It is about a girl named Liz who travels with her aunt to Universal Studos (City) and to Disneyland. They meet a young man on the plane who accompnies them on their trip. She meets a new friend at Universaal and they hang out there and at Disneyland. While at Disneyland they become hostages by terrorists who want to end poverty where they came from. I was first attracted to this book because it was placed at Disneyland( ny favorite place)but it contained so little of the sights of Disneyland and so I was turned off by the book. It was an exciting read but I wanted to hear more about Disneyland.

Excellent Read
Liz Austen and her brother Tom are detectives. They've solved everything from kidnappings to murders. Now Liz is going to have to solve a hostage situation, without the help of her brother.

While Liz Austen is on a trip to California to visit Universal Studios (City) and Disneyland with her Aunt, they run into a charming man known as Kingsley. He soon becomes a quick friend and escorts them to the amusement parks. But when Liz notices someone following her and her friend Serena they realize that something bad is going to happen. It's now up to Liz to save the hostages, and bring peace to the people visiting Disneyland before someone gets hurt.

This was my first book by Eric Wilson, and I must admit I was very impressed. I like how he doesn't drag sentences out or keep you guessing. This is a great book and I recommend it to any mystery readers.

I just read this book and loved it
This book is abput a girl named Liz who goes to Disneyland with her aunt and gets taken hostage by a group of young men and woman form Latin America. One of the other hostages arrests the leader.I liked it because it was very exiciting

An amateur act
Having just recently finished rebuilding a 1200 engine, my experience with Wilson's book was frustrating. Not only are key details about the 1200 engine omitted but issues such as compression ration/deck height are poorly explained and the uninformed reader is left to guess. This is fatal when considering the composition of modern, lead replacement fuels which require a lower compression ratio. Other important issues not covered are - how to get the timing right when inserting distributor gear shaft (which should be done after crankcase assembly), lubrication details (using white grease for assembly as he recommends clogs oil galleries), checking bearing crush for big end bearings, as well as adjusting rocker arm geometry. Having said all this this happens to be the only book which deals with rebuilding in this depth, so it is useful but think for yourself! Another important aspect is the cost of a rebuild and the number of hours required - expect to spend thousands of dollars and hundred of hours of time. Although the book claims to make rebuilding easy, without the proper machinery and tools rebuilding is time consuming, costly and annoying. Expect to either buy or borrow specialised tools such as large sockets, micrometers, depth gauges, etc and to pay for machining work such as regrinding values, crank, etc. Rebuilding can end up being merely a reassembly task of work completed by a machine shop.

Great Engine Rebuilding Book
If you are planning on rebuilding your VW or Porsche 914 engine, or are even just curious about what's involved, then this is the book for you. The book is broken down into several excellent sections: engine removal, teardown, parts interchange, reconditioning, assembly, and burnin. Detailed B&W photos document every step involved. This is by far one of the best how-to books out there, and is almost all you need to rebuild your engine (factory manuals would help to supplement the book too).... it's a great buy, and definitely worth purchasing even if you're not going to rebuild your motor, but want to know what's involved, or why your mechanic is charging you so much. I'm currently writing a similar book on rebuilding the Porsche 911 engine, and I'm modeling it after this one.

A must have for the aircooled VW enthusiast
If you have an aircooled VW and you're planning to rebuild the engine then you need this book. Use it in conjuction with the proper service manual like Haynes or better still..the Bentley Manual. This book makes rebuilding a VW engine much easier. The writing style is easy to understand and not boring at all. If you're serious about your Beetle this should be in your reference library
