Vicky angel
Jade is best friends with Vicky. They go to school together and get into mischief alot. But something happens to Vicky (I won't spoil the story) and Jade is alone and she begins to misbehave. A good story, even if it is about saddness and living after something horrible happens. Illustrated by the amazing Nick Sharratt, I loved it and couldn't put it down. :)

Buy this book - it's great!
Buy it because it's sooo good. Rose is not a good kid because she eats lots and lots of candy and popsicles. She broke the VCR. She learns how to behave in the end. It was easy to read. Lots and lots of things happen in this book. I did not want to put this book down.

I love it!
This book is absolutly fantastic! It perfectly describes the life of a teenage girl called Ellie, who thinks she is the fattest girl in the world. Her two equally best friends, Nadine and Magda, are always there for her(apart from when Magda has boys all over her!) to help her out and are always being sisterly. When she goes on holiday she thinks that its going to be the wettest, darkest time of all, but when she meets Dan things start to look up. When you have finished reading this one, try "Girls under pressure", it's even better than the first!

Great for Teens!
Girls in Love is an awesome introduction into the world of these three characters. Ellie, Magda and Nadine. They are all freshmans in highschool, and all...dateless. Until one day, Nadine confesses to having a boyfriend. Ellie (main character) starts a lie that goes way to far. Farther than she wanted it to go. She didn't want to seem like an out cast. How far did it go? And did Ellie confess it was all a lie? Read this book to find out! I recomend this book because it tells about true love, and how you shouldn't have low-self esteem. One of the characters gets used by an older boy and doesn't realize it until the end...when her friends come to the rescue!

What an excellent book!
'Girls in love' is a great book perfect for when you've recently been dumped!!! I loved the book especially as I've just started high school so I virtually know what teenage life is like! I think that this book is perfect. I can't wait till I can read 'Girls Under Pressure!'

another great story from a great author
This book is about a girl whose mum does not want her. It makes you think about how life is for children whose lives aren't as happy as your own. But the book has lots of happy parts too - the lady Tracy goes to live with is kind and they do fun things together. And there is at least one big surprise in the book. Tracy is an interesting mix of kind and cruel. As with all the Jacqueline Wilson books, I couldn't put this one down.

this book is the best ever!!!!!!!
If your a fan on Jaquelines books this is a must read book. Its the BEST ever! Tracy Beaker is such a funny character and I had a fare few laughs from the book and also tears. After you read this book i can reccomend the dare game which follows on from the story of tracy beaker. If you want a book which will make you laugh and that you can read over and over again, This is the 1!!!!!

Brilliant !
This is another excellent book by Jacqueline Wilson it's funny and humourous and children and adults alike will thoroughly enjoy it. Wilson really knows how to write a book that children will sit engaged with until they've completed it. Children who don't normally enjioy reading will love this book.

Magnificent
When Ellie comes up with the idea to go shopping for Christmas presents at the mall she doesn't realize there's a model search going on. Soon her two best friends (Magda and Nadine) are dragging her along so they can try out. The only problem? All the girls are so skinny and perfect and Ellie is fat (in her opinion) and not perfect.

Soon Ellie begins to stop eating, and starts throwing up when she does eat. But with the help of a friend (Zoe), who's anorexic and begins slowly killing herself, Ellie realizes that being thin doesn't mean anything, it's what's on the inside that counts.

This is a great book, and I recommend it to all fans of books such as "The Princess Diaries" and "Angus, Thongs, and Full Frontal Snogging".

It's difficult not to love this series
This second book in the GIRLS series by Jacqueline Wilson is quite engrossing. Well sure it's classified as a Young Adult novel, but that shouldn't stop older readers always on the lookout for a great read from enjoying this tasty little morsel.

And speaking of food, this particular volume in the series could be a great read for adolescent girls looking into starving themselves. I could go on and on and say it's not worth it to shun food to get thin, and there are other (HEALTHIER) ways to drop a few pounds, and that's even only when your weight potentially endangers your health. But that would flat-out be preachy. Fiction, if used in a constructive way, is a better way to get the message across. It's an entertaining means of getting through to the subconscious after all.

And that is just what this little volume can do for young girls.

Girls under pressure
After the title page caught my eye in the library at school I sat down to read this amazing book. It captures the emotions of all the situations exactly and perfectly mixes real life with humour with out beng overly cheerful for the moment. For those of you wondering what it is all about- Well it tells the story of a teenage girl who considers herself to be overweight and her struggles with it(with out being too serious), you also see snips of the lives of her two best friends and an anorexic school mate. I recomend it to anyone who is looking for a teen story or just a amazingly good book !!

Double Act
This book, Double Act, by Jacqueline Wilson is a very funny book about two twin girls, Ruby and Garnet, who do everything together but are really different people who want different things in life. Ruby is always bosing Garnet around, so when Garnet starts to think for herself, will it ruin the twins' friendship forever? Or will it make their friendship stronger? Find out in Double Act. You cannot put this book down!!

This was my first Jacqueline Wilson book I have ever read and it left me wanting more.

This is one of my favorite books!!
I read a book called Double Act. This was one of the best books that I have ever read. It was funny, adventurous, and very much like real life. It was adventurous because the two main characters, Ruby and Garnet, who are identical twins, ask their dad (their mom is dead) if they can audition for a twin commercial, but he says no. Regardless of this, they go to New York and audition. It was funny because their dad met someone that they hate and they do funny things like confuse her, throw-up on her, etc. This is realistic because she made these two characters act how real twins act-I would know because I have a twin sister. Jacqueline wilson has a very unique writing style. she uses cliffhangers, and writes in a way that there is never a part whereit isn't interesting, boring or obvious. this is a book that you just can't put down! When you come acorss a book well-written, like this one, you say, "Mom, just let me finish this chapter I have just one more page to finish!" You really have three, but anything to read more of it! I suggest this book to anyone who like funny, adventurous, and realistic books.

Terrific!
Double Act is about ten-year-old identical twins, Ruby and Garnet. Their mother is dead and their father has a girlfriend, Rose, whom they don't like. Then they have to move to the country to own a bookstore. This is a great book!

An endearing true story
The inspiring true story of photographer and self-made scientist Wilson "Snowflake" Bentley proves that anyone can achieve their dream. Born of humble means on a Vermont farm in 1865, Bentley was fascinated with weather and devoted his life to studying snow crystals. With the aid of his parents, who sacrificed their life's savings so he could buy the proper equipment, Bentley created photographs that provided the world with invaluable insight into snow crystals.

Mary Azarian illustrates this charmer with warm, hand-colored woodcuts that create an appropriately old-fashioned feel. The simple main text of this 1999 Caldecott Medal winner flows well with the charming illustrations. Sidebars on each page add additional details that maintain interest for older readers and allow the main text to remain focused on the story.

I found this very inspirational and a joy to read. My only complaint is the dearth of actual photographs by Bentley. The entire book builds interest in the photographs, but only three tiny copies of the actual photographs are shown on the last page.

Review of Snowflake Bentley
I really enjoyed reading the story of Snowflake Bentley. Jacqueline Briggs Martin does an excellent job of telling the accomplishments of Willian Bentley in a way that is exciting and entertaining to children. Snow brings much excitment to all children, they love playing in it and sledding so to read about a man who dedicated his life to snowflakes is fascinating. This story shows how hard Wilson Bentley worked to show the world what he loved. This story gives a great example to children, the kids see that with hard work you can accomplish whatever you want. Snowflake Bentley is not like any biography I have read before, it gives justice to William Bentley's accomplishments but written in a story like form that will interests the children. The facts on the side of each page are a great additive of information as well.

Review of Snowflake Bentley
As winter is in full effect and snowfalls are becoming morefamiliar to the area, I couldn't help but pick up Jacqueline BriggsMartin's Snowflake Bentley. As educational as it is delightful,Martin's colorful picture book gives the historical account of Wilson "Snowflake" Bentley (1865-1931), an American farmer who dedicated most of his life to microphotography. This form of photography allowed Bentley to take pictures of snow crystals and study the snowflakes more closely. The pictures in this story compliment this educational narrative as they also add expressive and colorful images. A drawing of Wilson Bentley is dominates the book as the central image. The story shows Wilson's growth from a child to an adult in his study of nature, whether he is walking in the snow, examining insects in a field of flowers, or studying the shapes of snowflakes under a camera in his home. This visual art classifies Briggs' book as a picture book. According to Rhedin in Kummerling-Beibauer Bettina's article, "Metalinguistic Awareness and the Child's Developing Concept of Irony: The Relationship between Pictures and Text in Ironic Picture Books", there is two types of picture books. The first is a book where the "visual art dominates as an independent mode of expression but is enhanced by actual or implied narrative structure." I wouldn't say that the visual art in Snowflake Bentley is dominant or independent nor would I say that it is the second type of picture book where "the verbal text dominates as an independent work of art where illustrations...show a distinctive freedom of style and thought." (162) Rather, I would say that the text and illustrations are dependent on one another. The illustrations do indeed show a distinctive of freedom of style and thought but these thoughts are parallel with the plot. The pictures of the snow are pleasant and comforting, as the story is also pleasant and comforting. She uses pictures of William, Wilson's family, the fallen snow, but also of other seasons where Wilson is studying other aspects of nature. The falling snowflakes throughout the text continue the idea of snowfall, whether on a double full-page spread or set on borders outside the text. The colors throughout the story are vibrant and are visual images of the words in the text. The pictures are able to depict fully what Briggs wants the readers to understand by creating an image that brings the story line to life. Readers, both children and adults, can enjoy this story line as well as the history behind Wilson Bentley. I picked up Snowflake Bentley on a cold winter's day but the pictures were warming and the story taught me to examine snowflakes for more than just a way to get out of class.

Lovely - just what books in this genre should be
The Carrs have always been my family friends, so to speak... I recently re-read this book, having loved it as a pre-teen, and I found out that it was still able to make me laugh and cry. The plot follows the growth of young Katy, focusing on her unfortunate accident and the consequences it has on her and her family.

Naturally, a part of my strongly positive reaction was nostalgia, but nevertheless this is a beautifully written story, both moving and humorous, full of imaginative magic and the cosy warmth of a loving home at the same time. The characters are lovable and memorable - is there a girl who couldn't identify herself with the clumsy, unfortunate Katy or admire the saint-like, yet fully human cousin Helen?

At the risk of sounding like a walking cliche, I must say that they just don't write books like this any longer: clean, wholesome and still totally satisfying and entertaining. But even if the whole world ran after the latest shock values, I would always be coming back to books like these - books for a girl who loves to read.

This book was, just great!
What Katy Did is one of my all time favorite books! (And I have read a lot of books.) I have read all of the Katy books, What Katy Did, What Katy Did at School, and What Katy did Next, and What Katy Did is still my favorite. This is an amazing book!

A childhood staple
I can remember my mother reading this book aloud to me as a child; one chapter a night. It didn't take long for me to decide that I couldn't wait for her to get to the next installment. I credit this book (one of many) that led to my lifelong, love affair with reading. It's among the top five books I'm collecting now to read aloud to my own daughter. She may only be 2 months old; but, it's never too early to introduce little girls to Katy and family. This book will never go out of style...life lessons are always in vogue.

A beautiful, beautiful book
As a student physician with a deep interest in Critical Care Medicine, I've been reading textbooks on the subject whenever I am able to get my hands on any of them. This one is an old book, published in 1992, and I found it in my med school library.

My verdict: A classic. It explains, from the foundations up, the physiological and pathophysiological bases of Critical care medicine, in a way I have not found matched (or even approached) in ANY text on the subject. It is a shame that this book is no longer in print. What concise brilliance, what pedagogical excellence...

The only drawback, now, is that 10 years after it was written the therapeutic recommendations will, obviosly, be a bit out of date. And yet... what a book.

a must have text
Despite the fact that this text was written ten years ago the die hard facts remain pertinent to the CCU, ICU, PACU patient of today. I am a third year medical student interested in Critical Care and in this competitive world of medicine, a book like this is a necessity. I found mine in a used book store and I will never give it up. In fact, I am buying it as a Christmas present for my best friend. Anyone in the field of medicine should get this text; the way that the pathophysiology is laid out is brilliant. To be honest, this may be the only text you need you second and third year of medical school... this is only a slight exageration...I PROMISE!!!!!!!!
