Funny and Hysterical!
Our school recently started performing this play at our school and I think it is absolutely funny. I have never read the book, but I am sure it is just as funny as the play was.

Invaluable Quick-Reference
Frankel's Field Guide to Clinical Dermatology is a convenient pocket-sized daily working manual for the recognition and treatment of the most commonly encountered dermatological conditions in the clinic, at the bedside, and in examinations. As such it is particularly suitable for medical undergraduate students and health care specialists. The text is written in a concise and user-friendly manner and is clearly integrated with abundant high quality colour clinical photographs. The contents are presented in a unique and informal format, which reflect the author's desire to provide readers with better accessibility to the facts and facilitate greater ease in the identification and interpretation of various skin lesions. For example, rashes are described under the easy to understand headings "rashes that itch a lot", "red rashes on the face", "red rashes (not on face)" and "scaling rashes". Other areas covered in a similar fashion include blisters, bumps, spots, leg ulcers, nails and folds, hair loss and procedures and supplies. Perhaps one of the best features of this text is the inclusion of a useful section on differential diagnosis and how to make the diagnosis for each dermatological disorder-necessary and helpful information for the uninitiated or inexperienced eye. With the emphasis throughout on simplicity and accessibility, there is less focus on pathogenesis and aetiology. However, this field guide is not essentially a picture book. Indeed, the author provides more than sufficient detail on symptoms and signs, treatment options and prognostic information to compensate for less direct mechanistic content. Overall, Frankel's Field Guide to Clinical Dermatology is an invaluable quick-reference/revision dermatological text which successfully combines qualities of a very good diagnostic atlas with its incorporation of numerous colour illustrations as well as also providing all the essential details on the common or classical skin disorders.

Four Comedies
This book contains the four "best" comedies of Shakespeare, along with an excellent foreword by Joseph Papp. For each play, it contains a very well written introduction (one that is not only on the play, but links each of them together), Shakespeare's original source material (example: "A Merry Jest of a Shrewd and Curst Wife Lapped in Morel's Skin" for "the Taming of the Shrew"), and well commented textual notes. I found this collection particularly useful for an "upper-level" look at these four plays.

Interesting, compelling, a real must!
I've recently gotten hold of this wonderful book for a research I'm doing on a semi-related subject and have come to realize that I couldn't have found a better source of analysis and information than this jewel written by Mr. David W. Foster. Not only is it an insight review of different books through the history of latin american writing, but it's also a remarkable effort in trying to look deeply into the always controversial subject of homosexuality in a culture where it has been allowed little space, both in terms of social recognition/acceptance/attention and of literary production. A book that will leave you thinking, will instruct you on the subject and -all at the same time- will suck you down 'til you finish it. Not throughly easy to read, since Mr. Foster's wording is very appropiately complicated, but it NEVER borders on rhetorical ramblings. Get this!

Genesis of an Orientalist: Thomas William Rhys Davids in Sir Lanka
Published in Hardcover by Motilal Banarsidass Pub (01 November, 1985)
Author: Ananda Wickremeratne
Amazon base price: $19.95

THE definitive book on this subject
This book is extraordinarily well researched, argued and written. An absolutely impressive work-I recommend Dr. Wickremeratne's books for anyone interested in the real history of South Asia and not just the usual, fadish, slip-shod sociological "theory" of the moment. This is the definitive text for any serious scholar and student of history.

The Georgia Gold Rush: Twenty-Niners, Cherokees, and Gold Fever
Published in Hardcover by University of South Carolina Press (1993)
Author: David Williams
Amazon base price: $29.95
Average review score:

Accurate portrayal of America's first gold rush.

Mr. Williams documents the Georgia gold rush in an interesting and uncompromising style. So many myths surround this time frame in north Georgia's history. For example, Benjamin Parks is frequently credited with the first modern discovery of gold in Georgia, mostly because he claimed it to an Atlanta reporter fifty years later. Williams quickly disproves virtually all of Park's claims.

In the chapters titled "Gold Fever and the Great Intrusion" and "The Cherokee Nation Abandoned," Williams gives one of if not the most accurate concise histories of Cherokee Removal I have ever read.

Additional chapters review a miner's life, the people who made money (most weren't miners), and the end of the Georgia gold era in 1849.

The Glasgow Guide
We have just returned from Glasgow (8/1/02) and used this guide extensively. Our favorite series is published by Cadogan and if you know the style and approach of Caodgan you will know the style of this as well: literate; enough information but not too much; fascinating detail; and, plenty of opinion and humor. The matrix which show the major attractions (museums, churches, etc.) by walk should be a mandatory part of every walk oriented guide.

We enjoyed Glasgow in ways never anticipated and this excellent guide was the reason.

Glory Days Indeed
Wow! I loved this book! It presents one of the best histories of the Cunard Line I have seen in years. The book focuses on all Cunard ships without giving the usual disproportionate weight to the Queens. The book is filled with color and black and white photographs of all the Cunarders including some great shots of the demise of the Queen Elizabeth, Georgic and Caronia. As this book is printed in England, many of the photographs have never been seen before in the US. This book is a must for any ocean liner enthusiast.

Hamlet One Voice
Published in Audio Cassette by One Voice Recordings (01 January, 1999)
Authors: William Shakespeare and David Ian Davies
Amazon base price: $6.95
Average review score:

Hamlet One Voice
The experienced actor David I. Davies gives readings of 30 soliloquies and scenes from Shakespeare's "Hamlet." Travis Dickerson's resonant music enhances the dramatizations. In addition to all of Hamlet's major soliloquies, Davies does a variety of scenes following the story line of the play and the cast of significant characters. Besides Hamlet, there's Horatio, Polonius, Claudius, and Ophelia. With the sharp expressiveness of Davies' readings, the listener can easily follow the development of the play and the inter-action of the characters.

Davies gives a reading which is true to the original language, yet modern in tone and enunciation. Though the readings are faithful to Shakespeare's language, Davies' pacing and pitch is modern-so the listener follows the dialog as easily as if he or she were listening to persons talking on a TV program, for example. The high technical quality of the recording and the tape also contributes to the favorable listening experience. Because Davies' readings make the play so accessible, "Hamlet One Voice" could be used for classroom or individual student study of the play; although anyone interested in the play or exceptionally controlled and elucidating readings of literature would find this work rewarding.
