The Dream Lover
Published in Audio Cassette by John Curley & Assoc (1999)
Authors: Lawrence Sanders and William Dufris
Amazon base price: $54.95
Average review score:

A Weak Early Effort
This tale of a Hollywood film producer in the 1920s is one of Sanders's slightest novels, lacking the complex plotting and rich characterizations found in his later works. This was a paperback original, originally published several years before Sanders became popular with hard-hitting detective fiction such as "The First Deadly Sin" and "The Anderson Tapes." The story is enjoyable but never compelling. Both fans of the frothy McNally books and Sanders's darker works such as the "Sins" books will most likely be disappointed. True Sanders fans won't want to pass this up, but don't expect too much.

Sanders at his best!
This is definitely the best Lawrence Sanders I've ever read. Late 1920's Hollywood is a totally refreshing setting for a novel. Those of us who appreciate Sanders's writing style and great dialogue are treated once again. Anyone who has not read Sanders before will not be disappointed in this choice.

20th Century Journey: A Memoir of a Life and the Times: The Start: 1904-1930

Powerful Memoir
Shirer's moving account of his formative years in Chicago, Cedar Rapids, and as a young reporter in Paris ranks as solid autobiographical writing. I like how this renowned journalist parallels history with a revealing narrative of his youthful yearnings, setbacks, and rebellious insights. Future historians will read this volume to feel the rhythms of everyday life from 1904-1930. Career, personality, and luck exposed young Shirer to many notables, and his portraits of acquaintances like Hemmingway, Sinclair Lewis, Isadora Duncan, and Eamon De Velera add spice to the narrative. Some academic historians jealously dismiss Shirer's best-selling books, but I find his eyewitness accounts illuminating and his prose superior. The first of three volumes, this memoir is more personally revealing than The Nightmare Years, Shirer's superb account of Nazi Germany and A Native's Return, his homecoming finale. Writes Shirer in the introduction, "...it is an interesting fate being an American in the Twentieth Century. I am glad it was mine."

surrealistic and haunting view of new orleans
Laughlin's photography goes inside the beauty and decay of New Orleans and surrounds, yielding a surrealistic view that mirrors much literature, but few photographs, of the area. Laughlin often uses models whose faces are distant yet haunting, and has a marvelous eye for architecture. Much more than photographs of a place, these are photographs that become part of the place. Comments by Laughlin and others that accompany the photographs are definitely an enhancement.

A valuable Civil War memoir
Father Corby's Irish Brigade memoir provides a very valuable and interesting record of the Civil War. His testimony gives the reader a first-hand account of life in the Church and in the Army.

In some sections, the memoir is not terribly exciting; it is for the history buff who wants to know more than which general won a given battle. The book tells of the great and small trials of army life. Its value comes from the author's testimony about the lives of the soldiers and their experiences.

The book will best suit those who possess a knowledge of the war, as Father Corby's passing mention of campaigns and generals' names will be lost on the uninitiated.

I strongly recommend this book to those interested in Civil War and Irish history.

The Birth of a Enterprise
For many people, the name W.R. Grace is connected with lawsuits and legal nightmares. But, for a true look at the birth of this amazing enterprise, one should read "The Story of W.R.Grace". Apart from the civil actions that Grace has confronted in the past 50 years(which you will not read about in this book), the company and its fascinating founder, William R. Grace, hold a rich history and an incredible story of rags to riches.

As a young Irish boy, W.R. Grace came to America with a dream of wealth and commerce tied with a honest and sound approach to business. At a time when America's industrial revolution was booming and business pratices were not as regulated as they are today, Grace came forward with a honest and upfront approach that would change the face of America Commerce and would launch Grace into the spotlight, good and bad, for years to come. A must read for anyone in business!

Audio CD Version
I listened to an Audio CD version of the play and I regret to say that I found it unmoving. The Brooklyn accents of the characters seemed to fade in and out on occasion and they deep dark revelations about their personal lives seemed to be revealed without much emotion most of the time.

I really had high hopes for the drama but felt it was more gimmick than gripping.

Broken Glass
I found Broken Glass interesting but disappointing. One expects the film to hold a much deeper secret and comes away from it thinking "This story has already been told." The three main actors, Margot Leicester, Mandy Patinkin and Henry Goodman, are all marvelous and far better than the script allows. I found Elizabeth McGovern a rather strange choice for the role of Dr.Hyman's wife. I own this film because I'm a huge Mandy Patinkin fan, but I wouldn't have spent the money otherwise.

The Complaint Department
The dimensions of healing placed in contradistinction to the tyranny of complaint.

My gosh, what a sad waste
Someone used the word snippet to describe what is included in this production; it is a good term. So, snippet it is; but what has been included gives no introduction, no explanation, no explication, no nothing. The tape is of different bits of Shakespeare's plays which run rapidly into each other. To get any fair use out of this work the listener needs to sit with a printed copy of the complete works sitting on his or her lap otherwise the whole exercise is meaningless. Shakespeare requires understanding what is being said in context. This tape would be better served if it included a brief introduction regarding which play the snippet came from and how the dialog ties in with the action. Without this information only those who have read all the plays will not be lost. There are not many who can claim that background. So, as a stand-alone audio, for most of us, this tape is a sad waste.

all the world's stage
I want buy this produce and i curiositied how it?

A great way to hear many different interpretations
I own this on cassette, and hope that it will soon be released on CD.

I play it almost every 3 months or so especially as I search for new audition monologues.
It is a great way to hear various interpretations of speeches, snippets from some of the more less performed plays (Henry VIII and Coriolanus are two examples), and some of the theater's best actors in their finest roles.

Highly recommend

The Father's Emergency Guide to Divorce-Custody Battle: A Tour Through the Predatory World of Judges, Lawyers, Psychologists & Social Workers, in the Subculture of Divorce

Not much here but gloom.
The few workable ideas are over shadowed be the negative tone and self serving anger. There are much better books out there.

I Wish I Had Written This Book!
As a Divorced Dad with a 13-year old son, I wish that I had read Mr. Seidenberg's book four years ago. I was the typical American male, hoping that a 21-year marriage would not end in divorce. In fact, not being able to believe that a divorce was possible.

My ex-wife took our son and moved out. If I had followed Mr. Seidenberg's advice, I would have aggressively protected my rights as a father. Instead, I went without legal representation for 90 days. BIG MISTAKE.

Any father should read this book even if a divorce is not expected in your future. When you have children, (I have three sons), they need to be instructed on how they can protect themselves and their children from what I call "Power Feminism." My ex-wife has a master's degree from SDSU in Social Work so she is a master.

In San Diego we face an incredibly male-negative family court system. I have started the Fatherhood Council,(available at dandreblow@aol.com), with the chief purpose of educating the public.

Mr. Seidenberg's book has just become a free gift as part of the membership package. Enjoy! Dan Dreblow

A must read for all fathers and husbands
I only wish I had read this book 11 months ago when my wife had planned her divorce from me and got an advantage from the begining. I was a happy father with three beautiful children and was evicted from my home overnight. Thanks to Robert Seidenberg, he could have gave me a play by play move about my forced separation. I could relate to this book so much it was an erie feeling to read it, but it is 100% true. You can lose and will, eveything and be on the road to total disaster if you dont take his advice.
