I am chief resident at a teaching hospital. This book was highly recommended to me
while I was researching a case but Dr. Wolfort's reputation sold me right away. I was
very impressed with the solid content in each chapter and the clear, extensive
illustrations throughout this book. It is invaluable and will remain a part of my medical
library. This is a must.

in this thoughtful work, the author (the former dean of the graduate faculty of the new school for social research & a political philosophy professor) examines the work of each of these seemingly unconnected men and their attempts to understand and present the human condition. this work transcends specialization and is an important piece in the study of the moderns break with the ancients. dr. white was the first ph.d.student of leo strauss in the usa. he is, as well, indebted to the thoughts of kurt riezler, with whom he also studied.

This is the story of Frank Shields, a great tennis star who was ranked as the best tennis player in the whole world in 1933. It was witten by his son.

Shield was a real high liver in the early 20th century running with Barrymores, Clark Gable and other. He was a free liver and a free lover. A passionate Irish fellow, he was wild and irresponsible, and yet irresistable in his own way.

William Shields writes of his father with a warm love, even though he does give notice to all his imperfections.

Can you help? PBS ran a series on this subject some years ago. I'd like to find a copy.

Having taught B&F in my early 17th cent. drama class, I can recommend Wit without Money and, to some extent, The Wild-Goose Chase. I would not bother with Wife for a Month, one of the weakest and poorly written of their collaborations. Nevertheless, this is a handy book.

This is one of the best introductions to the subject that I've read. The explanations are transparent with ample illustrations and examples. There are also many exercises to help the reader enforce what he has learned. There is also a very helpful annoted bibliography (actually the Afterword) which guides the reader to more advanced reading.

It is really a shame that this book is not quoted more often. Overall, this is a very fine book.

Since Amazon.com can't be bothered to list the contents of all the books, I thought I'd be helpful: this book contains The Maid's Tragedy (Beaumont and Fletcher), The Maiden's Tragedy (Middleton), The Tragedy of Valentinian, and The Insatiate Countess (from a draft by Marston).

This book is extremely beneficial for those who desire to follow the iconographic depictions of Francis in artwork. This book thoroughly describes the images of Francis found in the United States. I highly recommend this for lay students as well as seasoned scholars alike.

This first volume of a projected 3 volume edition of documents pertaining to the life and order of Saint Francis will easily become the source for all followers of Christ through the inspiration of this timeless saint. It provides the best translations and most recent scholarship on the life and times of the saint. In many way St. Francis is the most universal and beloved of Chirstian saints. Often called to second Christ as his life exemplifies the ideals of Christian service. Highly recommended.

This book was interesting but it had several flaws. It was a basically a defense of the army's 27th Infantry Division during the Saipan invasion during the Pacific war. It was at Saipan where the 27th did not measure up to marine units.

The author claims to be objective but I find that difficult to believe. He is writing about his own Uncle, William O'Brien. He was also writing about the 27th Infantry Division, a national guard unit which consisted of men from his own home town and area. I detected a bias in defense of the 27th and a bias against Marine General "Howlin Mad" Smith who relieved 27th Division commander General Ralph Smith.

The author claims that this was the one and only battle where army troops fought under the command of the a marine general. This was untrue. Army units fought successfully under marine General Vandergrift at Guadalcanal in 1942, under marine General Geiger at Peleliu in 1944, and briefly under Geiger again at Okinawa in 1945. The author blames marine command for many of the 27th's problems but has a shaky arguement.

The author also defend the 27th divison as "one of the best trained units in the Pacific". I have read many other books and many other authors do NOT share this opinion of the 27th. Many other authors have a much lower opinion of the 27th. In fact, at Okinawa in 1945, an army general withdrew the 27th from the main battle and sent it to the rear for "garrison duty". Let's be realistic and honest. Not all members of the armed forces in WW II were "the elite". Units differed in quality. Some units were excellent and some were of lesser quality.

Note: I am NOT a marine but just someone who has read many books on this subject.

Mr. O'Brien gives a vivid detail of the 105ths movements from the landing on the beaches of Saipan to the final evacuation from the Gyokusai attach in Tanapag. He follows his uncle Lt. Col. William J. O'Brien from battle to battle all the time merging stories of the hundreds of other men who fought along side him. Giving an almost play by play of scirmishes from survivors stories. I couldn't put it down. I will never Hash through the jungles here the same way again! Infact, I went to the memorial and looked for his name of the thousands that are there and I found it. As you look at it you face to about the appoximate location of Tagapag village.
