I bought this for both sets of parents!
There are a lot of retirement books out there, so I went with the one with a recognizable name and I'm glad I did. My parents haven't thought enough about retirement and I wanted to spur them to action. They were pleased to find out that there were many things they could do now, even at this late date, to help them, and they even starting giving me tips on ways I could start planning. So then I gave this book to my husband's parents who are already retired, and they ended up buying it for friends too. There are tons of tips, easy things you can do, worksheets, charts, action lists, tips--even a section on how to overcome adverse events like losing your job and divorce. It is worth the read. You'll learn a lot and be happy you did.

Glory Days Indeed
Wow! I loved this book! It presents one of the best histories of the Cunard Line I have seen in years. The book focuses on all Cunard ships without giving the usual disproportionate weight to the Queens. The book is filled with color and black and white photographs of all the Cunarders including some great shots of the demise of the Queen Elizabeth, Georgic and Caronia. As this book is printed in England, many of the photographs have never been seen before in the US. This book is a must for any ocean liner enthusiast.

A day by day look at Thoreau
"Oct. 22nd, 1837. 'What are you doing now?' he asked, 'Do you keep a journal?'-- So I make my first entry today." Thus begins Thoreau's Journal, made up of more then two million words and covering about twenty-five years of his life. No other work of Thoreau's better exhibits his discipline as a writer and his devotion to the natural world. In the Journal can be found the fragmented foundations of masterpieces such as Walden, A Week on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers, The Maine Woods, and Cape Cod. But what is perhaps more interesting to a reader of Thoreau's Journal are his thoughts and insights on topics such as friendship, love, religion, nature, bravery, heroism, war, slavery, the art of writing, and, most important to Thoreau, the art of living. Anyone with any interest in Thoreau will find his Journal to be an invaluable aid in understanding and following the life of one of America's most profound prose writers

Comprehensive heavyweight
This is a suitably vast book for a vast subject. It covers every aspect of the application of human genetics to medicine, and the reviews are not only an ideal introduction to a genetic disease, but are heavily referenced as well. This makes it ideal as a guide to the most recent literature on the subject. The introductory chapters are essential reading as well.

I teach three levels of Systems Engineering and Architecture courses at the Naval Postgraduate School. I have now used this book for 2 years for the Labs.

The students each study and make presentations on the different case studies; relating there results to the Systems Engineering Process and the Architecture Hueristics.

Last Quarter, one class voted this book the best book of the quarter.

Excellent, useful text using real case histories
I am a patient of Dr. Gersh and am one of the case studies presented in the book. It is now five years + since diagnosis. My prognosis gave a 10% five year survival rate. I believe my result was helped by the doctor and his methods!

This text is being used for a course with Web resources.
I have chosen this book as one of the texts for an introductory course in archaeology that has a World Wide Web component. If you would like to see how the text is being used, the URL is http://www.cc.ukans.edu/~hoopes/anth110.html. Auditors are welcome. One of the nice aspects of this text is that is was prepared in conjunction with an eight-part television/video series that is available for classroom use.

A masterful achievement
"The Papers of Ulysses S. Grant" is a project begun in 1962 for the purpose of publishing all the known letters written by Ulysses S. Grant. Volume one was published in 1967 and there are now twenty-four volumes in the series. People who follow Grant's career are aware of the inestimable value of this project. The Papers contain all known correspondence written by Grant and letters received by him. The editing of the series is unparalleled and the volumes represent primary source material at its apex.

Those who believe Grant was a "drunkard" or a "butcher" should read his own words, which show Grant's humor, pathos and unique personality. Masterfully edited by John Y. Simon, these volumes are a "must have" for anyone with an interest in U.S. Grant as a general, a politician and as a man
