One of the best adaptations yet
I have always loved the story "beauty and the beast" and have started to read different adaptations of it. My favorite ones are "the rose daughter" and "Beauty" by Robin McKinly. I first found this book in the elementary library of my school and immediately fell in love with it. I must have checked it out ten times. Now I am in sixth grade, and I decided since I love it so much I would like to buy it. I first looked here, since amazon has everything, but woe to me! It is out of print. Now I am scouring every used bookstore I come across for Nancy willards wonderful book. For other lovers of this tale, don't give up! Oh please, don't bail! This book is someplace to be found, and if you do you will be crowned! ;-)

Four Dolls

Delightful
Four magical stories by a master storyteller, brought together in one book. There's Impunity Jane, who longed to travel about in a pocket, the Fairy Doll, who helps her owner Elizabeth do all the bigger kids can and more, Holly, a Christmas doll whose wish helps a little girl named Ivy find a home for Christmas (a favorite story of mine for years), and Candy Floss, a fairground doll who helps a spoiled rich girl become satisfied for once. No, dolls are not furries, but these charming tales do fall under the "anthropomorphic" banner. ^_^ A fun book, and Rumer Godden's writing style is delightful! A must read for anyone who's ever played with a doll.

Bedtime Ritual
Willard's blessing book is warm and uplifting. My five year-old and I read it together every night as a bedtime prayer. The words and the photos are poetic and whimsical. Charming.

Makes a Wonderful Gift for a Book Lover
Although the story is not historically correct, but this book is still a joy, perhaps more for adult book lovers than children. The artistry is fabulous, and the pop-ups are quite clever -- my favorite is one depicting a clothesline of drying pages and a pull tab that creates the sound of snoring as Gutenberg sleeps while freshly printed pages hang overhead to dry. Librarians might get a laugh out of the fact that even the copyright and CIP is provided in a pop up. This book is a treasure for any bibliophile who is also a child at heart.

I was lost in the story!
I got this book from my local library, and I wasn't exactly sure I would like it. After I had read it, it became one of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITES! I very much enjoyed the fact that Plumpet, the cat, could talk, and that Suzanna was made of glass. I think that the book is great also, because Anatole goes on the journey to the Island of Sychorax so his grandma can get rid of her asthma. It shows how kind some people can be.This book made me feel like I was there, and I enjoy imagining I'm there, so it was a great book. I think Nancy Willard is a great author.

creative and beautiful
As with all of Nancy Willard's books, The Magic Cornfield is practically perfect in every way. The unusual adventures of Tottem Perhaps are chronicled with interesting and funny photograph collages. I highly recommend this book as a teaching tool - for geography, art, or creative writing, paired with the Griffin and Sabine trilogy.

Charming Mystery of Providence Versus Greed
A poor and gentle priest falls into coveteousness after he receives his parrishioner's meager Christmas gifts. His hand falls on a mysterious old cracked pot as he looks longingly at the full moon and wishes he could receive a marzipan moon every morning. And so begins a delightful turn of fantasy which keeps our dear little priest and we readers guessing -and smiling - at every quirky turn. I can guarantee that Nancy Willard's "Marzipan Moon" will be a family favorite. Her combination of fantacy and familar failings in mankind give safe distance to grasp the struggles and dreams we all share. Marcia Seawall's illustrations convince readers of the characters believable delimas, with their sad shoulders or beaming faces and incredible creations of imaginations. Don't rob yourself of experiencing this tale with your children. Mine are still asking me to form them marizpan moons for Christma, some 15 years since we began reading this!
